The Towering Inferno on a minuscule budget
Leofwine_draca10 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This Canadian TV movie attempts to do a TOWERING INFERNO-type story on a very low budget and the results are unsurprisingly disastrous. The tale is about a bunch of characters trapped inside an office building which is burning down around them. Drama is added by the team of firefighters sent in to rescue them who must face their own perils while there's plenty of sentimentality from an outside character who just so happens to be giving birth while her husband is on the inside.

It's as pitiful as it sounds and a complete waste of time. If the producers really thought a low budget and CGI fire was going to cut it then they were sorely mistaken. The writing is generally poor with an overload of melodrama and sickly-sweet romantic stuff that always seems to be included just so middle-aged women can watch and weep. Needless to say there are no famous faces here. As for the peril, it's non-existent. DEADLY INFERNO? DEADLY DULL, more like.

Over The Top Inferno
paulhynes-8242025 February 2017
Even though this movie was low budget low plot I did enjoy it - it's not the best film to watch but I don't think it's a complete waste of time I have to criticize the plot in some way though like how the fire started in the building in the first place was just plan daft it was just a silly way to start this film everything else is what you expect out of a fire rescue film it does grip you in someway how will the people trapped in the building be saved another thing to point out is the firefighters go into the building on the floor where there are gas explosions and fires burning but yet we don't see any of them even the female firefighter wearing there breathing oxygen masks and equipment? what was the point of them wearing that safety gear if they where not gonna shoot any scenes of them wearing their breathing masks etc the actors must have thought that as well I doubt that would happen in real life it had some good parts and tragic parts too although the film was too short if you want someone to pass the time then this film is watchable

Modern Disaster Movie
momster000517 January 2021
All Anglo cast with one minority who's the self sacrificing hero of the day. Big Surprise. The movie could have saved money by doing without the horrible acting of the main characters wife and daughter.

Not the Inferno You'd Expect
bcansevgisi28 January 2021
A fire slightly larger than a bonfire breaks out in a high-rise trapping some people on the 8th floor. The fire is so small and scattered until the last moments that it seems like it could be put out with a couple of chunky spits. But somehow, it's portrayed as the biggest fire in the city's history. Perhaps it was a different kind of fire as shutting doors keeps the flames out of rooms. Also, the smoke gets intense but less affecting as the fire starts engulfing the building, making the characters breathe with more ease with less coughing. The fire department chief seems confused and clueless all the time like it's his first fire...etc... I especially enjoyed the magically changing shoes of the female character trapped in the building -from high-heels to flats between scenes. The personal dramas of each character is so forced that you can't relate any emotion. You just wish they all died.

In the end, viewers watching this title might really feel like they are in a deadly inferno... but as in 'wasting an hour or so', in Dante's hell.

Shocking
dbuxton-2935110 April 2021
The cgi is shocking to the point I definitely think the mega drive console has better graphics. All that flame with a tiny hint of smoke . Now as a firefighter I could spend the next hour detailing the endless list of faults and failures .

Poor man version of The Towering Inferno
I found this to be a stand made for television disaster movie. The plot is similar to The Towering Inferno, but worse on how they executed it. There no suspense to be found in this movie because it happen pretty quickly to have any tension to it. Also, it gets predictable throughout and you can easily guess what happen next. It mostly what you expect from a fire building type of movie that doesn't bring anything new to itself and is rather bland. The characters themselves are extremely bland and not worth remembering about. Worst is the Michael who is your standard jerk boss you see in any movies out there and doesn't receive a proper comeuppance since he is responsible for the disaster. And the acting itself is really terrible with either on how it feels awkward or doesn't know how to act.

The effects of the movie range from decent practical fire effects to terrible CGI ones that isn't convincing at all. Also, disaster aren't anything too frightening or impressive.

Overall, it's a bland movie that isn't worth watching.

It could have been worse.

Warning: Spoilers
'Deadly Inferno' is essentially "The Towering Inferno" on a smaller scale. In this filmed-in-Canada TV movie, a bumbling janitor (Ephraim Ellis) inadvertently puts into motion circumstances that will cause an office building to later explode into flames. (Unfortunately, he was also told by the big boss (Stephen Bogaert) to turn off the water when the sprinkler system developed a leak.) A hard-working executive (David Sutcliffe) tries to look out for his fellow employees, while a brave fireman, Ray (Michael Xavier), leads his colleagues in an attempt to rescue the people trapped inside.

The script by Christian A. V. Petrozza is largely routine, and includes cliched types of characters such as the unreliable dad, the expectant father in a high-risk profession, the boss who is a Jerk with a capital J, etc. The effects can be pretty cheesy at times, but the director (Brent Cote) and crew manage to create a moderate sense of danger and excitement, and keep things more or less watchable. One good thing is that the acting is actually mostly tolerable: Bogaert really makes you hate his character, and Sutcliffe and Xavier are likeable enough heroes. One suspect bit of casting: Charlotte Arnold is less than four years older than Zoe Belkin, the actress playing her daughter, and they practically look the same age anyway. Arnold is unfortunately required to make a nuisance of herself at the scene of the disaster while the fire chief (Michael Hanrahan) fumbles about outside.

All of this is handled with a reasonable amount of competence, even if the presentation is hardly inspired. Some unpredictability, including a bittersweet ending, helped this viewer raise his rating by a point.

Six out of 10.

Pretty decent made-for-TV disaster flick

Warning: Spoilers
Firefighter Ray Vargas (likeable Michael Xavier) and his team have to rescue several office workers trapped on the 8th floor of a burning building after a gas leak causes a major explosion and subsequent raging fire in said building.

Director Brent Cole relates the familiar, but still enjoyable and engrossing story at a brisk pace, maintains an engaging earnest tone throughout, and generates a reasonable amount of tension. Moreover, the solid and sincere acting keeps this movie humming, with especially commendable contributions from David Sutcliffe as nice guy Colin, Jodie Dowdell as the perky Claire, Charlotte Arnold as the gutsy Alex, Stephen Bogeart as mean and ruthless jerk boss Michael (who surprisingly doesn't get killed), Greg Hovanessian as eager intern Jack Barton, and Jack Richter as the noble Reese. However, the dodgy CGI effects alas leave a good deal to be desired. No classic, but a perfectly acceptable diversion just the same.

Actually quite entertaining!
mgentalen24 June 2021
Found this title on Tubi earlier today, wanting just background noise, but " Deadly Inferno" is actually entertaining for a camy low budget straight to DVD film.

The main story, there is a fire in a commercial building. The cranky owner tells the floor supervisor, turn the fire sprinklers off. He says this is not a good idea- in case there is a fire. Guy lights a smoke, and then, well, starts an explosion in the basement.

Throughout the film, we see numerous burnings, people trying to save their lives and very bad CGI. I did keep asking myself, the firefighters trying to save the four people on floor eight, they had no breathing mask? The one firefighter is able to go through the fire without his jacket? Hmmm not really believable, but fun story.
