- Oswald Cobblepot: I can't be bought, but I can be stolen with one glance. I'm worthless to one, but priceless to two. Love.
- [hearing the crowd on television cheering for him]
- Oswald Cobblepot: They love me.
- Edward Nygma: If you would've bought the election, you would've never known. But now you do.
- Edward Nygma: [Penguin chuckles] Feels good, doesn't it?
- Oswald Cobblepot: How did you know I would win?
- Edward Nygma: I believe in you, Oswald. Even when you don't believe in yourself.
- [Edward Nygma tells Penguin that Arkham Asylum made them both stronger]
- Edward Nygma: I do believe, Oswald, Arkham has made us both stronger.
- Oswald Cobblepot: I couldn't agree more. Which is why I had our release certificates framed. A reminder of past struggles and new beginnings.
- Edward Nygma: If I didn't know better, I'd accuse you of being a sentimentalist.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Guilty.
- Edward Nygma: If it weren't for you, I would still be falling asleep to the screams of the insane.
- Oswald Cobblepot: It becomes almost a white noise after a while, doesn't it?
- Edward Nygma: It does.
- Edward Nygma: I can't be bought, but I can be stolen with a glance. I'm worthless to one, but priceless to two. What am I?
- Oswald Cobblepot: I don't care. I do not need a stupid riddle right now.
- [the bookie of The Bang Bang Room threatens the tied up Selina Kyle]
- Bookie: Place is packed to the gills. It's running two to one, for Penguin.
- Selina Kyle: Mm. Sounds like you're busy. Maybe I should go, huh?
- Bookie: No. This won't take long. I hate people with sticky fingers.
- Selina Kyle: [Selina sees the pliars] Okay, wait. W-What do you... what do you need? Huh? Money? Information? I could be useful.
- Bookie: Oh, you will be. You'll send a message. But maybe... I don't got to do this. I mean, maybe... you learned your lesson.
- Selina Kyle: [Selina smiles] Yeah, totally. I...
- Selina Kyle: [when Selina pauses] You're screwing with me, aren't you?
- Bookie: [as the Bookie snickers] Yeah.
- Bruce Wayne: Do you think Selina really kissed him?
- Alfred Pennyworth: Aw, bloody hell.
- Bruce Wayne: I mean, you've had training in interrogation, right? You can tell when someone's lying.
- Alfred Pennyworth: No, I'm not gonna have this conversation.
- Bruce Wayne: And if she did kiss him, do you think she thought he was me?
- Alfred Pennyworth: Good night, Master Bruce.
- Bruce Wayne: [as Alfred leaves] I bet she thought he was me.
- [Captain Barnes tells Jim Gordon to stay away from the Mad Hatter]
- Nathaniel Barnes: This is an active investigation. You go anywhere near him, I'll have you arrested.
- James Gordon: For what? No law against two private citizens having a chat. I'll come by later to pick up my check.
- Harvey Bullock: [as Gordon walks out of Barnes' office] I bet I'd make a kick-ass P.I.
- Nathaniel Barnes: Get out.
- Oswald Cobblepot: My beloved mother always believed in me. Even when I doubted myself, she held firm. Seeing all of your bright faces reminds me that there is nothing you cannot do if you put your mind to it. And when I am mayor, I believe... no... I know that together, we will make Gotham safe again!
- Little Girl: Mr. Penguin?
- Oswald Cobblepot: [with a smile] Hello, there.
- Little Girl: I wanted to thank you for getting rid of all the monsters.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [to Nygma] Do you see? People look at me differently now. For the first time in my life, I feel wanted.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [holding out hand for a payoff] Nice doing business with you.
- [Bruce Wayne and the Bruce 51A4 look-alike argue about who each other are]
- Bruce Wayne: I take you in and this is the thanks I get? You run around with Selina, pretending to be me?
- Stranger: Is that why you're angry? Because I was pretending to be you or that I spent the day with Selina?
- Stranger: [Bruce remains silent] For someone who has everything, you have no idea what you actually want. Or maybe you're just too scared to take it.
- Bruce Wayne: At least I know who I am.
- [the Bruce 51A4 look-alike stands on the edge of a rooftop talking to Bruce Wayne]
- Stranger: I don't know why I was created, but I know I don't belong in Gotham. Say good-bye to Selina for me. And thank her for the kiss.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Give me one reason why I shouldn't let Butch kill you where you stand.
- Edward Nygma: Well, there are about thirty witnesses...
- Oswald Cobblepot: I don't care!
- Edward Nygma: [pointing to a television] And there's that.
- [Penguin turns around to see the crowd cheering on the television that he has won the election]
- [the Penguin tells Butch Gilzean that he's no longer cut out for the job]
- Oswald Cobblepot: You never believed I could win this election on my own. I think maybe you're not cut out for this after all.
- Butch Gilzean: [about Nygma] What? You got to be kidding me. This guy...
- Oswald Cobblepot: [Penguin shouts] Don't worry. I still need someone to crack skulls.
- Oswald Cobblepot: It is with a humble heart that I accept the trust placed in me by this great city to become your mayor. The people have spoken, and I have heard their call. And as my first act as mayor, I would like to introduce you to my chief of staff, Mr. Edward Nygma!
- [the Mad Hatter sees the Amusement Park equipment in the closed warehouse]
- Mad Hatter: [the Mad Hatter smiles] It's perfect! Oh, my sister used to love amusement parks. The rides, the food, the tents with amazing acts. That's why I became a performer. Are you a family man?
- Caretaker: [hypnotized] Yes. I am a family man.
- Mad Hatter: The day I lost her was the saddest of my life. The only thing that got me through, that kept me sane, was the hope of one day being together again. Reunited. And if all goes well, that day is today. Of course, a reunion like this needs to be a private affair. You understand.
- [when the Mad Hatter slams the mallet of a high striker to the Caretaker's head]
- Nathaniel Barnes: Why is it that every time something hits the fan around here, I inevitably find you at the center of it?
- James Gordon: I was just working a job. Her brother asked me to find her.
- Nathaniel Barnes: Yeah. You're some sort of P.I. now? Is that it?
- James Gordon: I'm whatever pays the bills.
- [Alice tells Leslie Thompkins about the connection between her blood and her brother]
- Alice Tetch: If a person comes into contact with my blood, it changes them. It affects every person differently. My brother believes it brings out a person's true nature.
- Leslie Thompkins: Is your brother infected? Is that why you're so terrified of him?
- Alice Tetch: Jervis isn't infected. He believes we're connected. Two sides of the same coin. My way is the blood, and his, the mind.
- Leslie Thompkins: Hypnosis.
- Alice Tetch: It goes way beyond that. He preys on fear, anger, regret. And if he gets in your mind... you're doomed.
- Bruce Wayne: Why would he leave?
- Alfred Pennyworth: Well, he cut his hair to look more like you, if that's even possible.
- Bruce Wayne: You think he went to the city to pretend to be me.
- Bruce Wayne: Yeah, absolutely. Bloody yes.
- Bruce Wayne: So where would he go?
- Alfred Pennyworth: Take in a show, do a little bit of shopping, have a facial? I mean, where do pain-resistant clones of multibillionaire teenagers normally go?
- [the Bruce 51A4 look-alike walks with Selina Kyle]
- Selina Kyle: Well, this is it. Time to earn a living.
- Stranger: You work here?
- Selina Kyle: No. I rob here.
- Stranger: What?
- Selina Kyle: [Selina sighs] The Bang Bang Room is a betting parlor.
- James Gordon: I need to find Jervis Tetch.
- Barbara Kean: Oh, you mean 'The Great Jervis Tetch, Hypnotist Extraordinaire'? You believe it actually says that on his business card?
- James Gordon: Number's been disconnected. Where is he?
- Barbara Kean: I don't know. Magic shop, bunny farm... someplace where everyone wears top hats and drinks tea?
- Barbara Kean: You know, I'm not sure I like this new thing of you storming in here every time you need something. It's almost like we're married. Scary thought.
- James Gordon: [grabbing her wrist] I need a favor.
- Barbara Kean: Oh... Then you must be monumentally screwed. What happened? Did he hypnotize you? Make you bark like a dog?
- [Barbara Kean tells Jim Gordon that the Mad Hatter was looking for some flair]
- James Gordon: What'd you tell him?
- Barbara Kean: [Barb smiles] It's Gotham, baby. We've all got flair.
- James Gordon: [Barb laughs] Thanks. Always a help.
- Mad Hatter: Deever and Dumfree, I presume. The Terrible Tweeds. Your reputation precedes you.
- Deever Tweed: And you are?
- Mad Hatter: Jervis Tetch. I have a job that might suit your particular skills. My sister's been taken by the GCPD. I need to get her back.
- Deever Tweed: You want to break someone out of the GCPD?
- Mad Hatter: Not 'someone.' My sister. I assumed men like yourselves understood the bond of family.
- Nathaniel Barnes: [about the mayoral race] Can you believe Penguin might win this thing? Whole city's going to hell in a handbasket.
- Nathaniel Barnes: Look... you've caught some bad breaks. Blackgate. Lee. I don't know what happened when you went to see her, but I can take a pretty good guess. But at some point, you're gonna have to make peace with the decisions you've made.
- James Gordon: And what if I can't?
- Nathaniel Barnes: Take it from me, you don't want to wake up one day and realize that twenty years has gone by.
- James Gordon: I need to find your brother.
- Alice Tetch: You turn me in, and now you want my help.
- James Gordon: I was hoping we could help each other.
- Alice Tetch: He's still in your head, isn't he?
- Alice Tetch: There's usually a trigger that brings on the hypnotic state. What's the last thing you remember?
- James Gordon: He pulled out his watch. Asked if I could hear it ticking.
- Alice Tetch: That's it, then. His watch. Anything resembling the ticking will trigger the impulse. He's made you a prisoner in your own skin.
- Alice Tetch: When we were kids. At first, he did it to control me. Keep me with him. But then he started putting other thoughts in my head. Thoughts a... Thoughts a brother should never have. That's why I wanted to kill him.
- [Selina Kyle tells the Bruce 51A4 look-alike that Both Bruce's don't have a sense of humor]
- Selina Kyle: So you ran off and pretended to be him. Why?
- Stranger: You'll laugh.
- Selina Kyle: I doubt it. Neither of you has a sense of humor.
- Stranger: When you came to see him the other night, I was watching from the hall. I saw the way you looked at him. No one's ever looked at me like that. I wanted to know how it felt.
- Selina Kyle: You should have your eyes checked. I didn't look at him like anything.
- Stranger: I've never had a friend. I've never had anyone. You have no idea what it's like to spend your whole life alone.
- Selina Kyle: You're actually better off. People are overrated.
- Stranger: You don't believe that.
- Selina Kyle: My mom left before I could ride a bike. Never knew my dad. I had two friends. One ended up barbecued, and the other's at the bottom of the river.
- Stranger: What about Bruce Wayne?
- Selina Kyle: Forget about him. He's even more screwed-up than you. You're more normal than you think.
- Leslie Thompkins: I don't know what I would do if something happened to you.
- James Gordon: You'd be fine.
- Leslie Thompkins: Do you really believe that?
- James Gordon: You seemed to have moved on okay.
- Leslie Thompkins: Yes, I moved on, Jim. What choice did I have? I went through the most painful period of my life alone. I cried myself to sleep every night. And like an idiot, I would wake up thinking, hoping that the next day, you would show up at my door. But you never did.
- Leslie Thompkins: After everything that's happened, you really have nothing to say to me?
- James Gordon: The past is the past. There's nothing I can do to change that.
- Leslie Thompkins: Alice told me that her brother preys on anger and regret. I really don't want that to be all that's left of us.
- James Gordon: You mean all that's left of me.
- Leslie Thompkins: Barnes asked me to put you on a 48-hour suicide watch. I've already signed off on it. I know that we can't change the past, but there's a difference between moving on and letting go.
- [Butch Gilzean gives a talk to his crew]
- Butch Gilzean: Most of you guys have been with me for a while. You know me. And I know Gotham like the back of my hand.
- [Butch raises his fake hand as everybody laughs]
- [Harvey Bullock interrogates the young Tweed brother]
- Harvey Bullock: I bet you were close growing up, huh? Wrestling around the house, driving your mom crazy. Five little kids all dreaming of stardom.
- Harvey Bullock: [the young Tweed brother sobs] Yeah, I'm a fan. My dad used to always take me down to the rassling matches at the Garden. I also happen to know most luchadores... request to be buried in their masks as a sign of honor...
- Harvey Bullock: [Bullock lights a lighter to the Tweed brother's mask] And respect. I really, really hope that wasn't the case with your brothers.
- Young Tweed Brother: OK! OK! Ill tell you!
- [the young Tweed brother proceeds to blow out the flame]
- [Harvey Bullock relays a message to Jim Gordon from Leslie Thompkins]
- Harvey Bullock: Yeah. She also told me if you check out on my watch, it's my head.
- James Gordon: Guess you're gonna have to trust me.
- Harvey Bullock: Remember to chisel that into my tombstone.
- [Alice sees the Mad Hatter taking blood from her through a syringe]
- Alice Tetch: What are you going to use that for?
- Mad Hatter: Oh, I imagine I'll... mix it into some public drinking fountain. Create a few dozen monsters.
- [the Mad Hatter chuckles]
- Mad Hatter: If you let me leave with my dear sister, my dear Alice... then I'll free you from that nasty little impulse. Maybe you can live a long, happy... well, a long life.
- Mad Hatter: We both know what you really want. I saw it in your eyes the first time we met.
- [the Hatter's voice echoes]
- Mad Hatter: You want to be free. Free from the pain. And you can be. Stop fighting and let go.
- James Gordon: [flashback] The past is the past. There's nothing I can do to change that.
- Leslie Thompkins: [in the flashback] There's a difference between moving on and letting go.
- James Gordon: [breaking the spelll] No!
- Nathaniel Barnes: You want to explain yourself?
- Harvey Bullock: I was following a lead.
- Nathaniel Barnes: You were following some misguided notion about friendship. James Gordon is gonna get you killed one day, you get that?
- Nathaniel Barnes: Maybe. But until that day, I will never turn my back on him.
- Leslie Thompkins: Tweeds really did a number on this place. Guess I'm medical examiner slash medic.
- James Gordon: Slash resident therapist.
- James Gordon: Lee. There's something I... need to tell you. Something I should have told you the moment I saw you back in Gotham. Everything you said today...
- Leslie Thompkins: I'm sorry about that.
- James Gordon: Don't... You were right. And after everything that happened today... This is harder than I thought.
- Leslie Thompkins: What is it, Jim?
- James Gordon: I'm happy for you.
- Leslie Thompkins: You are?
- James Gordon: Trying to be. Maybe we can start there.
- Leslie Thompkins: Yeah. I think we can do that.
- [last lines]
- Nathaniel Barnes: [Captain Barnes walks under the pipe that Alice died on, when a drop of her blood drips down onto his eye, in a low voice] No.
- [first lines]
- Alice Tetch: [Bullock enters interrogation room] You don't understand. My-my brother will find out I'm here, and he'll come for me. Nothing will stop him.
- Harvey Bullock: This is the brother that took you to Strange to try and fix you?
- Alice Tetch: What? No. Jervis kept me a prisoner most of my life, and when I finally managed to escape, I ran as far away from him as I could.
- Harvey Bullock: Mm-hmm, and landed in Gotham.
- Alice Tetch: It seemed like a good place to hide. Until Strange found me and locked me in Indian Hill.
- Harvey Bullock: I'll admit, not the best luck for you, or your future landlord.
- Alice Tetch: That was an accident.
- Harvey Bullock: The infecting part, or the lighting him on fire part?
