Director Claire Ferguson on Destination Unknown (2017): "I wanted to make a film where the only voices are those of the survivors themselves, to capture something of the intimacy and immediacy I felt when talking with some of them directly. The challenge was to weave those individual voices together in a way that created a wider story, one that explored not only the pain of the Holocaust itself, but the building of new lives afterwards. My overriding question was 'How can you make a life after such pain?" [2017]
Producer & Filming Director Llion Roberts on Destination Unknown (2017): "I was inspired to start this project seventeen years ago when I visited Auschwitz in 2001 and saw an image of a thirteen year old girl - Kystyna who had a striking resemblance to my own daughter who was also thirteen years old at the time I fist saw the image of Krystyna. From thereon, I started to research further into the Holocaust. Little did I realize that this would take me on a thirteen year journey (2003 - 2016) interviewing survivors that had endured the horror. I wanted to ensure that the remarkable stories of those who survived the Holocaust were preserved for posterity. During this odyssey, I met and interviewed a remarkable range of resilient people whose lives are an inspiration to us all. From the 400 hours of testimony that I recorded, I wanted a film which captured the essence of their experience and made a contribution towards perpetuating the memory of the Shoah.
