At the start of the film, General Terry and his command are seen reconnoitering in the abandoned Indian village, which was located on the west side of the Little Big Horn River, across from where Custer's command was massacred and where the bodies would soon be discovered. Then Captain Benteen and Major Reno ride up from the north and inform Terry that Custer had left them a few days earlier with five companies. However, Reno and Benteen should have been coming from the south, where the remainder of the 7th Cavalry under their joint command managed to hold off the Sioux and Cheyenne for several days after Custer's command was wiped out.
General Terry's column approached the Little Big Horn battlefield from the north, and entered the abandoned Sioux village located on the west bank of the river. The site of the Custer massacre was on the east bank of the Little Big Horn, so this would have been to the left of Terry's column as it proceeded south, on the opposite side of the river. Yet the film shows the massacre site to the right of Terry's column, which would have placed it west of the village, in the opposite direction of its actual location.

Yet the film shows the massacre site to the right of Terry's troopers, toward the west and opposite its actual location.
