Charming interview
Woodyanders9 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Lovely and becoming brunette actress Sherry Buchanan talks about her acting career in various low-budget Italian horror and exploitation movies made in the 1970's and 1980's in this engrossing and enjoyable 23-minute documentary. Buchanan reveals that she was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Buchanan goes on to discuss her film debut in the giallo "What Have They Done to Your Daughters?" as well as notes that she also worked in Italy as a model and TV commercial actress. Buchanan in addition talks about how her head had to be shaven for the brain surgery sequence in "Dr. Butcher M.D." and how the make-up process for that gruesome set piece was long and exhausting. Moreover, Buchanan has fond memories of star Ian McCulloch as a very funny man with a great sense of humor. Her stories concerning the "Jaws" rip-off "Tentacles" are fun to hear. Ditto her candid admission that she never aspired to be a star and her observation that people were a lot more simple and generous back in the 1970's. However, the best stuff in this interview are Buchanan's comments on how the use of a body double for hardcore inserts in the lurid "Emanuelle and Joanna" had a negative impact on her career and in turn made her want to quit acting. Buchanan comes across as a real charming and personable lady in this interview -- and she's still quite the looker, too! A nice featurette.

Sherry Holocaust: Interview with Actress Sherry Buchanan (2016)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Actress Sherry Buchanan discusses her work on the Italian gore film ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST in this 23-minute featurette, which can be found on that film's Blu-ray from Severin. Not only does the actress talk about that film but she also discusses her entire career. She starts off talking about how she got into acting and then she goes into details about her career. She not only discusses ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST but she also talks about WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOUR DAUGHTERS?, TENTACLES, MY NAME IS NOBODY, MALDOROR, EYES BEHIND THE STARS, EMANUELLE AND JOANNA and CRAWLSPACE among others. If you're a fan of the actress then you'll certainly enjoy this well-detailed interview that has her touching upon several subjects including how she felt when EMANUELLE AND JOANNA was turned into a hardcore movie without her knowledge.
