Okay, I know it has nothing to do specifically with C'thulhu or the dead city of R'lyeh but it is a a Lovecraftian story and it's so poorly done that the title is how I felt watching it.

"The Music of Erich Zann" is a classic of Lovecraft. It was considered his favorite story out of all of them. However if he ever saw this, I think he'd be a little upset.

The acting is amateurish in every sense of the word. At no time did I believe anything that the actors were portraying. Liberties were taken, but then giving Erich a guitar instead of a cello might have made sense from a strictly practical point of view. Too bad the guy playing Erich wasn't a great guitarist. In fact the music he plays is rather mundane which comes at odds from the heaps of praise that the young hero gives him.

When you get down to it, very little here matches what goes on in the story. It's more like the creators of this took the essence of the story and just wrote something that kinda matched. Of course most of this is told through the young hero who seems to only be there to provide exposition.

And I don't know what the director was thinking or even if he gave the actors any kind of direction. The camera work is pretty basic. Nothing special. Nothing terrible but definitely nothing amazing.

In the end, at just 8:04, it's a very short and very unsatisfying story. I'd suggest other examples of it that typically run longer and have more competent acting and directing.
