Unless you’re trying to remain entirely unspoiled about God of War: Ragnarok before you play it on November 9th, I highly recommend you check out the game’s latest story trailer. Like most of the game’s promotion material thus far, it’s an enticing preview of what is to come as well as an incredibly well-done piece of work in its own right.
If you did watch that trailer, then I’m willing to bet there is a good chance you were shaken by the impact of the voice that pops in around the 40-second mark. While the dialogue that seemingly disembodied character speaks throughout the trailer is undoubtedly powerful on its own (Kratos really isn’t the kind of god that has ever inspired love), it’s the quality of the voicework that likely left you reeling. It’s not only a great performance but there’s...

Sony was not kidding when they promised to adapt several of their flagship game franchises into major motion pictures. With adaptations of Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Days Gone, Gravity Rush, Twisted Metal, The Last of Us, and more on the way, the studio is determined to bring gamers out of their basements and into movie theaters. Another project Sony Pictures will bring to the grand stage is Sony and Polyphony’s Gran Turismo, based on the acclaimed racing game that helped redefine expectations for the genre. David Harbour is attached to star in the adaptation, lending an impressive amount of star power to the film produced by PlayStation Production’s Asad Qizilbash Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti.
Jason Hall and Zach Baylan wrote the screenplay for Gran Turismo. Meanwhile, Kazunori Yamauchi, who created the game, executive produces alongside Hall. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gran Turismo...

“Stranger Things” actor David Harbour is off to the races and will star in Sony and PlayStation’s adaptation of the car racing franchise “Gran Turismo,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”) is directing the video game adaptation based on a screenplay written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylan.
“Gran Turismo” is actually not a direct adaptation of the game but a true story about a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver. Harbour will play a retired driver who teaches the teen to drive.
Sony is releasing the movie on Aug. 11, 2023.

Of the half dozen TV programs that each received at least five acting Emmy notices in 2022, “Squid Game” is the only one with no past contenders in its nominated cast. The quintet of Korean performers recognized for their work in the Netflix series’ first season range in age from 28 to 77 and have screen acting resumes that date as far back as 1994. One of the show’s three supporting nominees, Park Hae-soo, has earned this mention 15 years into his career, which has consisted of equal parts stage, film, and TV work.
Park has decided to have Emmy voters consider his performance in the inaugural season finale of “Squid Game,” entitled “One Lucky Day.” At the beginning of the installment, his character, Cho Sang-woo, stands as one of two finalists in the central contest, along with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). It’s not hard to understand how “franchises” became a bad word. At a time when ideas are born to become IPs, it’s easy to look down on the very idea of a franchise. However, not all franchises are treated equally. In fact, there have been quite a few video game franchises that never really got the chance they deserved.
It’s odd to think of a video game franchise eventually being lost to time. After all, the very idea of a game becoming a franchise means that it obviously was a big enough deal at one point to be worthy of follow-ups. Yet, history has shown that it’s surprisingly easy for a series to just vanish. Some fell off the radar due to bad sales or a few bad entries, but others vanished from our collective conscious for no good reason at all.

Exclusive: Hae-soo Park, who played Squid Game finalist Sang-Woo, has signed with UTA.
The talent agency has signed the actor, who is currently fronting Netflix’s Korean remake of Money Heist, in all areas.
It comes after a major courtship by the Hollywood agencies to the cast and creatives behind the smash hit Korean dystopian drama series.
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk and stars Lee Jung-jae and Jung HoYeon all signed with CAA, so it’s a coup for UTA to nab Hae-soo Park.
Hae-soo Park recently scored an Emmy nomination for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
He has previously starred in Netflix’s Korean dark baseball comedy Prison Playbook, Chimera, Persona, Legend of the Blue Sea, Six Flying Dragons, and God of War.

Almost every long-running video game franchise has a signature weapon that shows up in almost every entry. For God of War, that weapon is the Blades of Chaos. For Half-Life, it’s the crowbar. For The Legend of Zelda, it is most certainly the Master Sword.
Also known as the Blade of Evil’s Bane, the Master Sword is one of the most frequent recurring faces of the franchise. Even though most Zelda games star different characters, all of whom are named Link, the Master Sword is the same weapon throughout. This has, unfortunately, resulted in some retcons and contradictory origins since the Master Sword has technically existed longer than the Legend of Zelda timeline. Whenever one entry provides an origin story for the weapon, a sequel eventually comes along and delivers a different tale.
So what is the true origin of the Master Sword? Who forged the only weapon...

The Blacklist Season 9 Episode 21
Raymond Reddington is eating chilled Camembert and betrayal in The Blacklist season 9 episode 21, but what has he got to lose? A friend and bag man who sits in a car and cries while he watches his murderous orchestrations unfold in front of Pasqual’s restaurant. According to Marvin’s perspective of Liz’s death and the soundtrack playing through his memory, that fatal bullet took away Red’s “baby” and his “heart.” And Marvin knew it.
It turns out that Marvin was the bug in VanDyke’s ear pushing Townsend’s obsessively loyal bodyguard into the role of kamikaze assassin. Quite a shove from Marvin who is somehow able to keep VanDyke at gunpoint when Marvin can barely hold up the gun convincingly, much less shoot it. Marvin gets inside VanDyke’s head easily enough and the gun becomes more...

God of War creator and controversial YouTube figure David Jaffe recently went on a tirade in which he laid much of the blame for Starfield‘s recent delay at the feet of Microsoft Gaming CEO and Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer.
Before we dive into those comments, it’s important to understand some additional context about this story. First off, in case you haven’t heard, Bethesda recently confirmed that they have decided to delay Starfield and Redfall from 2022 to the first half of 2023. While Redfall did not previously have a specific released date beyond a vague September 2022 window, Starfield previously had a highly publicized 11-11-22 release date. The announcement didn’t really come as a shock to many who were familiar with Starfield‘s development hurdles, but it did draw quite a few reactions from fans and industry figures.

The controversy around Thor’s weight gain in “Avengers: Endgame” has been reignited on social media following the debut of the first “Thor: Love and Thunder” trailer. Chris Hemsworth’s superhero infamously packed on the pounds for “Avengers: Endgame” (the internet dubbed this iteration of the character “Fat Thor”), which led many to wonder how the upcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder” would handle the character’s weight gain. Although Thor has his “Endgame” weight when the trailer begins, it’s not long before there’s a brief training montage (Thor exercising with chains) and then the return of the muscular Thor from the pre-“Endgame” Marvel movies.
“Fat Thor” proved controversial and made headlines for much of summer 2019 during the record-breaking run of “Avengers: Endgame.” While some fans were delighted to see a new side of Thor, others accused the movie of being fat-phobic since it frequently used Thor’s...

If you were a Playstation guy over an Xbox guy, then you must have played the God of War games. Let me just say that Kratos, the Spartan God of War, is without a doubt one of the greatest video game protagonists. It’s not really because he’s a heroic character, far from it. What makes this video game anti-hero so spectacular is the fact that he is one of the few video game characters who defined a generation. This bloody fun video game series showed us that not all protagonists can be good people at heart. For the case of

Thirty years ago, the iconic anime series Sailor Moon debuted in Japan and has taken over the world since then. Let’s take a look back on some of the most iconic moments from the beloved anime.
“On March 7th, 1992, the very first episode of Sailor Moon aired in Japan. Thirty years later, Naoko Takeuchi’s creation is still one of the most impactful series in pop culture—not just in Japan, but all around the world. While the Champion of Love and Justice wouldn’t arrive in the U.S. until 1995, the anime holds a special place in my heart as being one of the first series I’d seen where the heroes were all girls.”

Exclusive: PlayStation’s flagship action-adventure franchise God of War is heading to television. Prime Video is in negotiations for a live-action TV series based on the hugely popular ancient mythology-themed game, sources said.
I hear the series adaptation comes from The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins as well as Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, which collaborate on all TV series based on PlayStation games. Reps for Sony and Amazon Studios, which likely will co-produce, had no comment.
This would mark the latest big deal for a TV series based on a popular video game title in a red-hot streaming marketplace for gaming IP. Peacock just landed another Spt/PlayStation property, Twisted Metal, with a series order and Anthony Mackie starring. HBO has coming up the high-profile PlayStation game-based series The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Hong Kong and Paris-based All Rights Entertainment has picked up a mandate to handle sales duties on “Lendarys,” an animated family entertainment movie that is now in production.

However, when they find the boy’s trail, they discover he has rallied the cause of a strange maleficent creature who is trying to take over their world.

The brilliant God of War has finally arrived on PC as part of the PlayStation team’s recent (and surprising) push to expand some of their services to that platform, which also means that PC gamers ready to experience one of the best games of the last 20 years are suddenly wondering which of God of War‘s difficulty settings they should choose.
While it may not seem that hard to choose a difficulty setting (and the choice obviously comes down to personal preference), the odd names for God of War‘s various difficulty modes combined with the fact that the game doesn’t exactly do the best job of telling you about the differences between them mean that many people boot up the game with more than a few questions about which one is the right one for them.
That being the case, here’s a brief look at God of War...

Spider-Man: No Way Home has already conquered the box office and the hearts of fans across the globe, but now it’s time for it to take over memes, starting with a tentacle-less Doc Ock.
“Doc Ock is one of the more menacing villains in Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery. Not only is he someone that will willingly threaten the life of Aunt May to get to Peter Parker, but he was also first a friend. A mentor turned mind-controlled man with robotic arms, Otto Octavius became the second mad scientist to destroy Peter Parker’s life in the Sam Raimi movies. Played by Alfred Molina, he brought destruction to Peter’s life in the best of ways as a villain, and we loved seeing what Molina brought to the character.”

The Playstation 2 Era is one that gamers remember fondly. It provided backward compatibility so you could migrate your entire Playstation One roster to the PS2. It took gaming to the next level and introduced graphics that were unthinkable. The Dualshock controller was first introduced with the Playstation 2 which changed the way we viewed gaming controllers. Online gaming was first introduced via Playstation 2 for free. DVD’s could be played so you could It also introduced us to timeless classics like Ratchet & Clank, Okami, and God of War. But those games have survived the test of time and

Sony held their latest State of Play earlier this week, which, unfortunately, did not include any updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West, or the next generation of PlayStation VR, though Sony did say that they will have more updates soon. This was a pretty huge letdown for a lot of players, especially considering this was supposed to be the PlayStation presentation that would explain why Sony didn’t attend E3 this year, but alas, it looks like we’ll just have to wait for more announcements in the future. We did, however, get a pretty solid look at a few

Over 155 million PlayStation 2s have been sold to date, but few of those 150+ million PS2 owners have ever come close to beating the beloved console’s hardest games.
Sure, the PS2 may have helped make 3D games significantly more “playable,” and yes, it did slowly pull us away from the era of absurdly difficult arcade-style games, but it was also the console that seemingly inspired a new generation of developers to ask “What does the future of incredibly difficult games look like?”
Their answers include a driving game where mistakes are not an option, a rhythm game harder than actually learning an instrument, a beat-em-up that beats you up, and more of the absolute hardest PS2 games ever made.
15. Stuntman

To the surprise of pretty much nobody, the PlayStation Studios team has officially acquired Returnal developer Housemarque.
“Today I’m thrilled to welcome a new member to the PlayStation Studios family,” says Helmen Hurst, head of PlayStation Studios, in a recent blog post. “I have been a fan of Housemarque since the studio’s early days when they introduced Super Stardust HD to PlayStation fans. Housemarque’s recent release of Returnal proves the studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community. This addition enhances the creative force of PlayStation Studios, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Housemarque.”
Housemmarque co-founder and managing director Ilari Kuittinen had this to say about his gratitude towards the PlayStation team as well as his hopes for the future of his studio:

You didn’t have to watch much of Xbox’s E3 2021 event to understand two things: the Xbox team really wants you to subscribe to Game Pass, and the incoming barrage of Xbox exclusives includes an impressive number of RPGs.
Starfield and The Outer Worlds 2 were the RPG highlights of Microsoft’s E3 2021 showcase, but those games only scratch the surface of Xbox’s RPG plans. There’s also The Elder Scrolls 6, Avowed, Fable, and a host of third-party RPGs either exclusive to Xbox platforms or easily accessible via Game Pass. The Xbox vs. PlayStation 5 debate became a lot more interesting after E3 2021, and for RPG fans, that potential decision may be tougher than ever before.
Honestly, that’s probably the point of Xbox’s impressive RPG lineup. After all, if they’re going to challenge Sony again when it comes to quality and quantity of exclusives, what better way...

In 2011, the Tribeca Film Festival’s unprecedented decision to include a video game as part of the official selection may have seemed like nothing more than a glorified bit of cross-promotion between a for-profit festival and an elite publisher with a very expensive new blockbuster to sell. A detective mystery in the tradition of classic movies like “The Maltese Falcon” and “The Big Sleep,” Rockstar Games’ “L.A. Noire” certainly seemed like a natural way of bridging the gap between two different mediums that have been on a collision course for a long time — according to Rockstar’s Dan Houser, Tribeca felt that it “was something new and different that would appeal to fans of cinematic storytelling” — but the choice also reflected the patronizing idea that video games should aspire to be interactive films.
In the years that followed, however, it gradually became clear that Tribeca had a more expansive...

While the recent confirmation that God of War: Ragnarok won’t be released until at least 2022 shouldn’t surprise anybody, the news that the PlayStation Studios team may release the game for both PS4 and PS5 has come as quite a shock to those who expected the much-anticipated sequel to be one of Sony’s biggest next-gen system sellers.
“You can’t build a community of over 110 million PS4 owners and then just walk away from it, right? I think that’d be bad news for fans of PS4, and frankly not very good business,” said the Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, in a recent interview. “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that. Tokyo, May 28 (Ians) Sony is committed to bringing its PlayStation brands and IP to third-party mobile devices, Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO Jim Ryan has confirmed.
The arrival of Sony's "iconic IP" on mobile platforms will occur by the end of the financial year in March 2022.
Ryan said during an investor relations session that the company plans to launch its major franchises on non-console platforms such as mobiles, encouraged by its "very successful" first steps into the PC gaming market, MacRumors, citing VideoGamesChronicles reported.
The CEO presented research suggesting mobile gaming generated $121 billion worldwide in 2020, compared to $62 billion brought in by the console market and $42 billion generated by the PC gaming market, demonstrating the case for the company to move into mobile gaming.

Days Gone‘s recent PC port gives us all a chance to revisit one of the PlayStation 4’s most divisive titles, but what are the odds that port eventually leads to the PlayStation Studios team greenlighting Days Gone 2?
If you’re looking for a short answer to that question, it would have to be “incredibly low.” If you need more information than that, then it’s important that we first provide a little more context about Days Gone‘s release and reception and how both contributed to its dwindling sequel prospects.
Days Gone was released in 2019 to a decidedly mixed response. Some praised it for its large open-world and B-movie charms, while others (including our review at the time) argued that the game’s collection of modern gameplay tropes was dragged down by its glitches and design issues. It also didn’t help that Days Gone was released shortly after...

In an interview posted on David Jaffe’s YouTube channel, Days Gone writer/co-director John Garvin (who has since left developer Bend Studios over what was implied to be personality differences) suggested that part of the reason why the game will reportedly not be getting a sequel is that not enough people bought it at full price.
“I do have an opinion on something that your audience may find of interest, and it might piss some of them off,” said Garvin. “If you love a game, buy it at f-cking full price. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen gamers say ‘yeah, I got that on sale, I got it through Ps Plus, whatever.”

It seems Wakamatsu held some of his best for last, since after the epic “United Red Army”, he came up with another great movie, two years before his death. “Caterpillar” was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin Film Festival, where Shinobu Terajima received the Silver Bear for Best Actress.
The script is partially based on the homonymous, banned, 1929 short-story by Edokawa Rampo and takes place in the end of 1930s, just before the Second Sino-Japanese war and the beginning of WW2. Lieutenant Kyuzo Kurokawa returns to his home village, completely limbless, with no hearing, and with extensive burns covering half the right side of his head. At the same time, he is highly decorated with three medals and carries the title of “God of War”. His relatives are all stupefied by his condition, but quite hypocritically, try to convince his wife, Shigeko, that it...
