Dire Straits called it quits as a band in 1995. But in 2019, the back-catalog of the British rock band is reeling in more money than ever — thanks to an investment scheme that may help take the oft-in-turmoil music industry into a smooth financial future.
The band’s longtime manager, Ed Bicknell, took a gamble last year by selling his share of Dire Straits’ royalties through Royalty Exchange, an online marketplace that lets investors buy chunks of music royalties. Royalty Exchange’s premise is similar to the Bowie bonds of the Nineties,...

This year has been awash with nostalgia for the final year of the Sixties and the end of the 20th Century (a.k.a. 1999), but Stranger Things is bringing the Eighties back in a, like, totally major way. The upcoming third season of the hit Netflix series (set to premiere July 4th on the streaming service) finds the Hawkins, Indiana crew navigating adolescence, as well as a paranormal phenomenon or two, over their school vacation in 1985. Aside from the near constant supernatural threats, we have to admit we envy them.

You have to give J.J. Abrams credit. For the last eleven years, he’s been surprising audiences with films he manages to make under the radar and then unleashes them on an unsuspecting audience.
The most recent was November’s Overlord, which had trailers that lulled you into thinking Abrams was producing his first war film. But, after the soldiers are dropped into Nazi-occupied territory, the creepy stuff starts and then you know you’re in for a horror thriller.
Operation Overlord, of course, was the code name for D-Day, June 6, 1944, a turning point in World War II and ripe for exploration, or in this case, exploitation. Once director Julius Avery plops Private Boyce (Jovan Adepo) and Corporal Ford (Wyatt Russell) behind enemy lines to disrupt the supply lines and mess with communications, things proceed apace. However, once they enter a church, things get creepy. Heinous activities have been happening beneath the holy structure,...

Most films are personal for the filmmakers in some way, but Trevor Jimenez’s animated short, “Weekends,” is more personal than most. It follows a 6-year-old boy shuttling between his divorced parents’ homes in Toronto and it’s steeped in his own childhood experiences.
“I grew up with divorced parents and I drew a lot about those experiences. The film started as a drawing I did 10 years ago for an animation portfolio of a kid walking from his mom’s house to his dad’s apartment,” explains Jimenez, who works as a story artist at Pixar. “I put that online and got more response on that than anything else on the vlog. People were talking about their divorced families in the comments section and I started sharing memories with my friends, and they’d be amused by them. It made me think that there was something there that could connect...

A wise man once said “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Usually in summer school.” No, it wasn’t George Santayana. It was me; I lied about the wise part. But whoever said it, the sentiment is true, so it would behoove Oliver Queen not to start planning that Disneyland vacation just yet. He has some summer schooling in his future.
First, I’m going to Spoiler Warning you that I’m about to give away much of the plots of the Arrow episodes “Brothers in Arms” and “Fundamentals.” If you haven’t seen them, you might want to stop reading and go to Disneyland in Ollie’s stead.

Having made a well publicized but unsuccessful attempt earlier this year to sell his infamous mansion inside the guarded gates of the heavily celebrified Mulholland Estates enclave in the mountains between Beverly hills and Sherman Oaks, Calif., with an asking price pushing up on $10 million, Charlie Sheen switched tacks and now has the seven bedroom and seven bathroom property up for rent at $43,000 per month. The dyed-in-the-wool Hollywood scion and bona fide sitcom superstar, once one of the highest paid actors on television who hauled in an astonishing $1.8 million per episode for his four-time Emmy nominated role on “Two and a Half Men,” purchased the custom-outfitted, 8,932-square-foot faux-Italianate meets vaguely-Tuscan villa, the epicenter of his salacious and very public 2011 breakdown, in 2006 for $7.2 million.

The Solution Entertainment Group and Vmi Worldwide have picked up international sales rights for adrenaline-fueled romance “Cruise,” written and directed by Robert Siegel, who wrote “The Wrestler” and “The Founder.” The film, which stars Spencer Boldman and Emily Ratajkowski, will be screened for buyers at the Cannes Film Market.
“Cruise” is “a joyous, music-filled trip down memory lane,” according to a statement. It takes place in the summer of ’87, when working-class Italian-American Gio Fortunato (Boldman) has little on his mind but racing cars and chasing girls. “An auto-parts store clerk by day, Gio comes alive every night on Francis Lewis Boulevard, the Queens cruising strip all the local kids flock to in search of good times.”
One night he crosses paths with Jessica Weinberg (Ratajkowski), a sophisticated college girl from Long Island looking for thrills on the wrong side of the tracks. They embark on an unlikely summer romance that...

At this point, it’s very hard to imagine the Arrow landscape without John Diggle. Really, David Ramsey’s character has been there since the very beginning and has evolved from being Oliver Queen’s bodyguard to Spartan, a superhero in his own right who has been key in the crusade to save Star City for the past several years. Granted, Ollie and Dig had quite the spat near the end of season 3, but they’d since patched things up.
Well, maybe I spoke too soon, because their working relationship fell apart during last week’s episode, “Brothers in Arms,” when the two actually came to blows! Needless to say, it was hard to watch those guys pummel each other, but kudos go to the writers for giving them both compelling arguments – and to actors Stephen Amell and David Ramsey for making it believable.

The “why does everyone around you die” trope, which sometimes takes the form of “why does everyone I love die,” is pretty musty. “Brothers in Arms” isn’t the first time Arrow has dipped into that well, and it won’t be the last. The drama continues in the latest chapter of Arrow as Oliver and Diggle finally duke it out.
While the boys are butting heads, Ricardo Diaz continues to rise as the Dragon of Star City.
Where to begin with Arrow Season 6 Episode 17? This was a roller coaster that I'm not sure no one should have to experience.
We have been here many times where our heroes are constantly arguing with each other. This time it was Diggle's turn to lose his patience with Oliver which was heavy.

It is difficult to take anyone's side in this absurd argument. Both of them made valid points during their shouting contest that felt like a high school showdown.
But these are two grown men in, what I assume, their mid-30s at this point. Their fight was heartbreaking as well as extremely petty.

The Brawl in the Bunker may have ended in a draw, but by the end of this week’s Arrow, there was an unarguable loss.

Arrow season 6 hit the pause button in the episode, "The Thanatos Guild" to say goodbye to Thea Queen. As a consequence, the Ricardo Diaz plot got delayed even further. However, in this episode entitled, "Brothers in Arms," Diaz and his gang return with vengeance. Yet the biggest threat to Oliver isn't Diaz and instead might be inside his (very small) team. The simmering tension between Diggle and Oliver finally comes to a head in "Brothers in Arms" with some rather devastating consequences.

Oliver Queen has faced a lot of uphill battles over the past six seasons of Arrow, but someone who’s almost always been by his side to help him make the climb is his best bud John Diggle. In this week’s episode of The CW series, however, Stephen Amell and David Ramsey’s characters will come to blows in what looks to be a shocking falling out between the dynamic duo.

Although a portion of the Arrowverse is unfortunately on hiatus yet again for the time being, the truth of the matter is that we’re about to begin the final stretch of episodes for the season, so now is the time to get excited. In fact, Legends of Tomorrow will be wrapping up things a little bit earlier because, don’t forget, it tends to enjoy shorter seasons than that of its sister shows. Still, there’s a tad more of Arrow for us to look forward to, which we’ll touch on momentarily.
