A father's memories
brueggemanntami26 March 2018
I won't get into the gun control debate. We all have our own viewpoint on the matter and nothing said here will change anyone's mind. However I will comment that the memories of the man with his little boy and how things really ended made me cry. Beautifully done. Terribly sad. I was also surprised to find out that Flippa has a great voice. The second story-line with Adam was also very nice.

Warning: Spoilers
For sure, certainly the best episode in this series for the last 2 years.

Guns are stolen by a man wanting to make a statement about gun control needed to stem gun violence. The man's own son had gone on a rampage after being bullied in school and had taken 8 lives before his life was forfeited.

Obviously, this timely subject matter to be shown. The hostage situation in court was very well done with Lou and Kono masquerading as reporters to get closer to the hostage taker. When a judge pulls out a gun, it just goes to show you what we can have when we have so many guns around.

Kudos to all for a great episode.

Gross distortion and misrepresentation of the gun control argument
skyking-1420 February 2017
Hollywood elite's liberal agenda on full display, backed by distortion and misrepresentation of facts.

Early on, Danny pulls out the tired liberal line about the 2nd amendment being just for "well regulated militia" which is clearly disputed both by the construction of the sentence (the need for the militia being cited as an example of why the keep and bear arms needs to be protected comes first, not after, the declaration of the right) and the deliberate change of wording (it says the "right of the people" NOT "the right of the militia"). If the drafters had meant it just for the militia, they would NOT have granted the right to "the people" as in "We the People".

Secondly, they keep talking "assault rifles" as being legal, but the weapons they use for this discussion are fully automatic weapons which are already illegal. What the gun control lobby typically refers to as an "assault rifle (political term, not a real gun description) is simply a .22 or similar rifle which has cosmetic parts added to make it look like a military rifle. It is totally incapable of the "spray" firing depicted in this show. One trigger pull = one round fired. Just like a handgun or any other rifle or shotgun. True "military weapons" have the ability (rarely used in battle) for emptying the entire magazine at once by holding the trigger down. This is what Hollywood usually shows, but not what the civilian version does.

The entire concept of the father of a mass shooter, being so overcome by grief as to become a mass shooter himself to protest against guns is so ludicrous that only Hollywood could come up with it.

I find it particularly idiotic, but all too commonplace that Hollywood, which makes it's fortune glorifying gun violence, constantly seeks to place the blame on the guns and on legal, responsible owners, instead of on an entertainment culture that has spent billions of dollars portraying violent movie characters as heroes!

Not what I was expecting
rsimm22 October 2016
I am a pretty big fan of this new Hawaii Five-0 and have watched it since the reboot began in 2009. Usually I just watch the episodes and I don't comment on them very often, but I wanted to take the time to do so with this episode. The US gun laws are a major problem that contribute to the gun violence in the country. Many say they are not strict enough, while lobbyists blame the users of these weapons, and go on an on about the second amendment and their right to bare arms. I was a military man and I know a fair amount about guns. They have one purpose and that is to take lives. That is what they are designed to do. It doesn't matter if that life is an animal that was hunted, or a man or women in war or in domestic violence. Guns only purpose are to Kill. Now I am not going to defend either side of the argument as I don't have a side. What I wanted to say was that this episode was a great idea to bring the problem to the forefront again, but I didn't like the execution (no pun intended) of the episode.

Worst Episode so far
JimJepson11 November 2016
This was by far your worst episode.

Really? Crazy anti-2nd amendment idiot steals assault weapons and holds hostages. He then goes on TV and makes a plea to ban all guns. Attempted hero - NRA member and gun owner - tries to take him down but is a bad shot and complicates matters. In the end, the NRA member is labeled as a buffoon, and the crazed thief/hostage-taker is labeled the hero. Total blatant political move by producers.

It is a proved fact that gun control has caused problems worldwide. It has never helped. And NO, not even in Australia, so don't go there.

FACT: The best defense against armed criminals, is an armed civilian who knows what he's doing.

This episode was total Liberal propaganda. Shame on you Writers & Producers of the show.

Worst episode ever (including the Jack Lord days)
jgnumber33 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is the producers mea culpa for making seven seasons of shows that are dependent on lots of gun play where the old show had more class and better stories. It should have been reported to the Federal Election Commission as a contribution to Hillary Clinton. They certainly did not contribute to this show's legacy.

Ripley wouldn't believe this one. The villain/hero attacks innocent people to prove guns are terrible. The legislators, the lobbyists and manufacturers are the real villains. Danny agrees with him and wants to confiscate all guns until only cops are armed. This episode wants to make the guy look sane with a legitimate beef. If he had used birth control years earlier, life would have been much simpler but this cockamamie script had to be slapped together before the election. Unfortunately it has more holes in it than Bonnie and Clyde.

Careful, your socialist agenda is showing
kathart17 December 2018
The whole plot is asinine. I've been binge watching this show and really enjoy it. This is the worst episode by far! The hypocrisy is so laughable, when every episode has gun violence and then they make this episode about anti-gun violence? Really?

I'm grateful our founding fathers formed a country where we have a constitutional republic that protects the individual rights of its citizens. We have a right to self defense and a right to own guns to protect ourselves. This episode is such a joke and Is a disservice to every citizen in this country. Trying to brainwash people into thinking they shouldn't be able to protect themselves. And their pathetic attempt to make the bad guy here some kind of misunderstood hero? Give me a break. Stop the socialist propaganda.

Terrible
adamfields-468892 June 2017
I know it's a show but this has got to be the most inaccurate series CBS airs and this one was the worst. Totally biased against 2nd Amendment rights but since I'm a federally licensed firearms dealer I could see all the inaccuracies in the story too numerous to list. All I'm saying is put some effort into your stories

Important Debate about Guns
2Pass_Time28 May 2023
The show presents a typical Hollywood flaw, lack of desire to use their platform to teach with truthful data. They want drama and cow-tow to the CNN/AOL lowIQ types that equally lowIQ voters watch/elect.

The Dad's pain we all feel...but the even greater tragedy is the writers missed opportunity to rail on the bullies who triggered the son. Bullies must be stopped. My niece has been bullied terribly and the bullies remain in school. A gun won't solve that but Hollywood could really show bullies up and give parents kids schools support. THAT WOULD TEACH THAT COULD HELP.

Sadly, most news misrepresents facts as do most movies and TV shows.

FACTS: Every state has different gun laws. The states with the strictest laws have the highest population and subsequently the highest crime rates. They also have the highest number of illegal gun ownership and highest gun related crimes.

If we banned legal gun sales nothing much would change for criminals but it may for the rest of us. Maybe if it was really hard to get guns and fewer were manufactured, it might reduce the number in circulation...but that's not going to happen as we have the second amendment.

So, what to do? I haven't a clue. One idea, focus on the causes of gun violence: bullies, gangs, drugs, and the challenges that create the opportunity for those evils to exist.

I would round up the gangs and put them on a remote island to fend. Bullies would be outed on school news-boards. Drug dealers ended. We are too squeamish.

What I can say is that a gun, and I plan to get one, is for safety. We need to train to use it, and I will. As to the liberals going all ballistic (pun intended), they always do. Few liberals have the will to research any topic before forming an opinion. They are, on the whole, weak, unimpressive, power & money addicted fools.

Quite possibly the worst episode they made.
joeycavanagh18 December 2021
We get it Hollywood doesn't like guns. This entire episode was filled with a ton of incorrect bs liberal anti gun rhetoric. Except for the part where Steve talks to Danny in the car about guns. Other than that just trash. Oh and the nice touching moment of a father and daughter reuniting at the end.
