Incredibly, Parasite director Bong Joon-ho doesn’t appear to have final cut on his latest film, Mickey 17. A new report says it’s delayed due to a dispute with Warners.
In an alternate reality, we’d already be watching Parasite director Bong Joon-ho’s latest film by now. Originally due for release in cinemas this March, sci-fi thriller Mickey 17 was instead shunted to January 2025.
Assorted reasons were proposed for the move – one was that Warner Bros wanted to avoid competing with the release of Dune: Part Two. According to reporter Daniel Richtman, however, there’s a darker reason for the delay.
According to his sources (news of which comes to us via World of Reel), Bong doesn’t have final cut written into his contract with the studio. In other words, if Warner Bros doesn’t like aspects of his film, then it can insist on making changes.

Filmmaking as an art can be as extensive and taxing as it can be intricate, and Bong Joon-ho’s meteoric success, Parasite, is no exception. From charting the storyline and compiling the script to interviewing locals around Seoul and consolidating everything into a screenplay, no stone was left unturned for the 2019 dark comedy and thriller.
Amongst the movie crew resided Bong’s trusted comrade Han Jin Won, who would soon end up as the film’s screenwriter, toiling away for hours every day for an impeccable execution of the screenplay.

Even though the new installment of the Mad Max Saga, Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa, seems to be a box office disappointment, it still received glowing praise from both critics and the audience. Alongside the strong viewership of Prime Video’s Fallout series, this fact proves people’s large interest in crazy post-apocalyptic stories.

At 29 years old, Quentin Tarantino made his directorial debut with "Reservoir Dogs." With its punchy pacing and electric performances, it was a brash, violent film that put him on the map as an audacious new storyteller. From his humble beginnings as a Video Archives store clerk to the script landing in Harvey Keitel's hands, Tarantino was able to raise $1.5 million to make the movie and debut it at the Sundance Film Festival.
Duane Byrge from The Hollywood Reporter covered the overwhelming audience response to the searing film: "[T]his plug gutter is wiping out audiences here at the Sundance Film Festival. Those who survive it emerge in a shell-shocked euphoria — so good and so blunt is the writing." Miramax won the subsequent bidding war, but although distribution was secured, the road to release was rocky. Everything about the making of 1954's "Godzilla" feels miraculous. The movie is a feat of filmmaking on every level, from its now aged yet still impressive practical effects to its bold nuclear threat story set in post-war Japan. The film utilized every trick in the book to bring its eponymous kaiju to life, from building a monster costume out of plastic and concrete to creating Godzilla's infamous roar by rubbing the loosened strings of a double bass.
The team behind the original "Godzilla" movie, which included director Ishirō Honda, special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya, and the team at Toho Studios, got creative with their moviemaking at every opportunity. Still, no amount of creative problem-solving could save the cast and crew from the forces of nature, which apparently conspired against the production during some especially sweltering days in Japan's Mie prefecture.

TNT is apparently out of the scripted series business and dropped the final season of its last original, Snowpiercer, before it could air. In the series premiere of Apple TV+’s Dark Matter, a former physicist is abducted into an alternate version of his life by a masked man who’s freakishly close to him. And it only gets weirder from there.
In the first episode (two are currently available to stream), we meet Jason (The Underground Railroad’s Joel Edgerton) and his wife Daniela (Snowpiercer’s Jennifer Connelly), a married couple living in Chicago with their teenaged son, Charlie (The Fabelmans‘ Oakes Fegley). Everything seems hunky-dory until Jason is invited out to celebrate an achievement by his friend and former colleague Ryan Holder...

There's a case to be made that Chris Hemsworth is the most talented of the Marvel Studios Chrises. He's got great comedic energy and leaned into that with his later performances as Thor (even if he admittedly went overboard in "Thor: Love and Thunder"). His vengeance-driven God of Thunder is the highlight of "Infinity War" too.
He's also making interesting career choices. I'm a Captain America fan, but Chris Evans has not challenged himself as an actor since "Snowpiercer." ("Knives Out" was just him dusting off his pre-Cap screen persona of a cocky a-hole.) Chris Pratt has waltzed his way into being Hollywood's leading voice actor despite his anonymous performances in "The Super Mario Brothers" and soon, "The Garfield Movie." Hemsworth takes paycheck gigs (see: "Extraction" and his voice acting turn as young Optimus Prime in "Transformers: One" this coming Summer), but he shows ambition too. One year after it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the New Zealand black comedy “Bad Behaviour,” starring Jennifer Connelly, is finally coming out in North America. The film is the directorial debut of actor-turned-filmmaker Alice Englert. Englert made some noticeable turns in “Ginger & Rosa” (2012), playing Lena Duchannes in the film “Beautiful Creatures” (2013), and in “Top Of The Lake China Girl” (2017), but she is also known as the daughter of famous New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion, so clearly filmmaking runs in their blood.

Last month, non-profit group Good Energy launched what it called a Bechdel Test for Climate Change, a simple set of criteria designed to determine if it was clear climate change was present in a film. The real Allison Bechdel even endorsed it.
As part of the “Climate Reality Check,” just three movies nominated for Oscars this year passed the test’s two simple rules: “Climate change exists” and “a character knows it.” Now a more extensive study published by Good Energy and Colby College’s Buck Lab for Climate and Environment has analyzed 250 of the top grossing movies between 2013 and 2022 under the same criteria.
Global warming has been with us for a while now, but only 12.8 percent — 32 of the 250 films studied in that time span — even passed the first criteria saying that climate change exists. Only 24 films, or 9.6 percent, passed both criteria of the test.

Given the state of the world around us today, it's not surprising that people are interested in post-apocalyptic settings. After all, you never know what skills or niche knowledge might save your life one day!
In all seriousness, though, post-apocalyptic scenarios can be a lot of fun. Packed with action, high stakes, and suspense, they keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find a movie or TV series that does justice to the genre and doesn't rely on the same repetitive clichés.
If you're feeling the adrenaline rush and can't wait for Fallout to return with season 2, check out the movies below.
Waterworld (1995)

It is a well-known fact that Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga became a massive hit and is still regarded as the best live-action adaptation of an anime to date. Francis Ford Coppola’s risky, largely self-financed passion project Megalopolis has finally found one distributor – Le Pacte in France.
Hollywood studio reps didn’t seem massively upbeat about Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic, but the $120m film has at least found a valuable backer in France.
French outlet Le Point (as picked up by World of Reel) reports that the independent company Le Pacte will put Megalopolis in the country’s cinemas, with its release scheduled for the end of September.
Le Pacte has good taste when it comes to distributing indie films on French screens; other movies it’s taken under its wing include Snowpiercer, Drive and last year’s Oscar-winning Anatomy Of A Fall.

Miky Lee, vice chair of Korean media giant Cj, is set to give the USC School of Cinematic Arts 2024 commencement address, organizers said Tuesday.
As a pioneer of the Korean movie wave, Lee has championed Korean directors like Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon Ho, and has executive producer credits that include Lady Vengeance, The Host, Snowpiercer, The Handmaiden and Parasite, the latter of which was the first non-English-language film to win the Oscar for best picture.
She will give the commencement address at the graduation ceremony set for May 10 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
“Miky Lee is a true pioneer and ambassador of collaborative global filmmaking, and we are so happy to have her share her insight and expertise with our graduating students,” Elizabeth M. Daley, dean of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, said in a statement.

Allow Robert Pattinson to introduce himself again… and again and again.
He plays more than a dozen versions of the same character, Mickey Barnes, in director Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming sci-fi thriller “Mickey 17.”
Bong, the Oscar-winning director of “Parasite,” brought a wacky, thrilling first look at the film to CinemaCon, the annual exhibition trade show that’s currently unfolding in Las Vegas. Through an interpreter, the Korean director described “Mickey 17” as a “story about a simple man who ultimately ends up saving the world. It’s a strange type of hero’s journey.”
It’s based on Edward Ashton’s novel “Mickey 7,” but Bong opted to ever-so-slightly change the name of the film to “Mickey 17.” The number reflects how many times the main character dies, so Bong teased, “I killed him 10 more times!”
