Sienna Miller and Ben Affleck starred together in the 2016 film, Live By Night, which the actor himself helmed. He was riding high on the success of his Oscar-winning film Argo, but this next film proved to be a complete disaster. It took years for Affleck to take on another project as a director. Miller may have identified one of the issues which affected the emotional quality of the film. She revealed that she had zero chemistry with Affleck.

Grief is a concept that everyone with a heart can relate to, but it’s not always something that everyone with a brain can deal with. Riffing on Jean Cocteau’s 1950 classic Orphée and giving it a very modern makeover, French writer-director Jérémy Clapin explores that very paradox with Meanwhile on Earth, a strange, poetic, and endearingly surreal meditation on the counterintuitive ways in which we react when confronted with loss.
In a very literal way, Clapin has been here before, with his acclaimed and surprisingly poignant 2019 animated film I Lost My Body, in which the disembodied hand of a pizza delivery boy goes on a journey to find the rest of itself. This much more cryptic follow-up pushes the notion a whole lot further, and whether it works or not will be in the eye of the beholder.
The loss this time is felt by Elsa (Megan Northam), who...

Monday, January 8th, would’ve been David Bowie’s 77th birthday. To mark the occasion, Wilco has shared their rendition of Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity.”
The release hails from Wilco’s 2023 performance on Mountain Stage (a public radio show distributed by NPR Music), and will be included on an upcoming compilation announced today titled Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers, due on April 19th via Oh Boy Records.
Presenting a wonderfully Wilco-esque take on “Space Oddity” — itself named the 43rd best song of all time by Consequence in 2012 — the band settles into an acoustic arrangement, allowing Jeff Tweedy’s vocals to masterfully convey the tune’s enduring appeal for humanity.

Brad Silberling's 1998 romance "City of Angels," a remake of Wim Wenders' indispensable 1987 film "Wings of Desire," stars Nicolas Cage as an immortal angel named Seth who gently breezes around Los Angeles, unseen by the people who live there. He appears to people only when they die, accompanying them to the afterworld. Observing humans as if they are an ineffable alien species, Seth becomes particularly enamored of an ambitious and compassionate young doctor named Maggie Rice. Seth finds that he might be experiencing love for the first time, and becomes visible to Dr. Rice, courting her and asking her deep questions about what it means to be human. Seth eventually chooses to transform into a human, sacrificing his immortality in order to be with his beloved.
What both Wenders and Silberling communicate with aplomb is how inhuman angels are. They live among humans but only interact when the humans die.

John Lennon worked on classic songs with both Elton John and David Bowie. John explained why he was closer to the “Rocket Man” singer than the “Space Oddity” singer. He also revealed why he played on Bowie’s cover of The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.” Fascinatingly, the former Beatle co-wrote one of Bowie’s most popular hits.

Some stars had an influence on classic rock so pervasive they managed to inspire the old guard. Case in point, David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” was an inspiration for one of Paul McCartney’s solo albums. Paul made the album with one of Bowie’s 1970s punk peers. On the same token, Bowie discussed how The Beatles influenced his lyrics for “Space Oddity.”

Finally! A series about an alien invasion shows humanity desperately fighting for its existence against, you know, aliens.
Invasion Season 2 Episode 1 revealed a new, more enjoyable direction for the Apple TV+ show.
Too much of Invasion Season 1 involved several humans/groups of humans determining something was wrong with the world.
But even after it was gradually revealed that the breakdowns in society were because of aliens, disbelief still reigned because, well, aliens aren't real.
And that extremely slow boil continued until the aliens finally burst forth in abundance on the Invasion Season 1 finale.
Which begs the obvious question: Now what?
Now it's four months after the alien invasion, and humanity is still grasping at straws when finding an effective solution to being inundated by the spider-like aliens.
It's a positive development that the globe's nations have stopped clashing with each other and turned their united attention to the invaders by forming the World Defense Coalition,...

Andrew Legge’s directorial debut Lola treads the line between the pitfalls of invention and the blessings that initially surround the same. One minute, it’s a seemingly ahead-of-its-time musical trying to capture the imperceivable hues of two sisters in the helplessly limited 16mm black and white frames. And in the blink of an eye, the symphony of love transforms into a heated brawl against the war-torn backdrop of a fictional Britain. To plate up something refreshingly original—a film that would’ve been deemed a masterpiece had it been made around the same time as the narrative is set—is an laudable achievement for a debut director who’s evidently in awe of the bleak nuances of time travel.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In ‘Lola’ Film?

They made a legitimate claim to the classic rock throne in the 1970s, but Pink Floyd’s discography spanned decades. Many listeners misunderstood their biggest hit, and while the songs might be open to interpretation, the order of Pink Floyd’s albums is set and stone.
The five Pink Floyd members created 15 studio albums

While the Harrison Ford-led Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny features another iconic score from John Williams, the soundtrack includes a few needle drops. “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones was a crucial song in the trailer, and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” is heard in the film. However, the studio for Indiana Jones 5 had to pay $1 million to play this classic song by The Beatles.
Harrison Ford said ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ paid $1 million to use The Beatles’ ‘Magical Mystery Tour’
“Magical Mystery Tour” was released in 1967 as the title track for the soundtrack and TV film of the same name. It’s a psychedelic track that invites listeners on a surreal, colorful journey. In Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, “Magical Mystery Tour” welcomes audiences into the 1960s.

One of the more compelling discoveries we came across on the festival circuit last year was Andrew Legge’s directorial debut Lola, a faux found footage film that plays with historical and science fiction. Starring Stefanie Martini, Emma Appleton, Rory Fleck Byrne, and Aaron Monaghan, the film follows two sisters in 1941 Englad who invent a machine that intercepts broadcasts from the future. With World War II dawning, they use it to change history. Picked up by Dark Star Films for a U.S. release in theaters and on VOD on August 9, the first trailer has now arrived.
Here’s the official synopsis: “1941, sisters Thom and Mars have built a machine, Lola, that can intercept radio and TV broadcasts from the future. This allows them to listen to iconic music before it has been made, place bets knowing what the outcome will be and embrace their inner punk well before the movement came into existence.

David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” is one of the most famous classic rock songs from the 1960s. The tune appears in a scene from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Despite that, it doesn’t make sense in the film.
David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ plays on a radio in ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’
A sequence from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny takes place as Americans celebrate the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. Before that scene”Space Oddity” plays on the radio. On a thematic level, this makes sense. “Space Oddity” came out in 1969 and it’s about space exploration.
On another level, it doesn’t work. “Space Oddity” was released prior to the moon landing, but it didn’t become a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States until 1973. It’s not impossible that an American radio station would have played “Space Oddity...

The Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour” appears early in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” is also in the movie. The Beatles make sense in the film but Bowie does not.
The Beatles‘ “Magical Mystery Tour” plays a vital role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. In addition to establishing the time and place, it establishes Indiana Jones’ place in the world. Notably, Paul McCartney said the song was inspired by adventures from his youth.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny begins during World War II. Subsequently, the film cuts to 1969. We see Jones as an older man. He’s woken up by hippies playing music in the apartment next to his. They’re playing “Magical Mystery Tour” at full blast.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

When The Beatles ended in 1970, many artists competed to become the next top dog, including David Bowie, Elton John, and Led Zeppelin. However, many of these artists owed much of their passion for music to the fab four and were influenced by their songwriting and style. David Bowie was a massive fan of The Beatles, especially John Lennon. When he first met the “Imagine” singer, he was so starstruck that he completely ignored Lennon’s brutal opinion of his style.

David Bowie has a stage show featuring his music called Lazarus. However, the musical was almost very different from its final form. Reportedly, it was almost a tribute to Bob Dylan as David Bowie wanted the music to consist of fake songs written by the “Blowin’ in the Wind” singer.

Lazarus is a jukebox musical featuring David Bowie’s music. The show is a spiritual sequel to the movie The Man Who Fell to Earth, which starred Bowie. The musical continues the story of Thomas Newton, a humanoid alien stuck on Earth. Lazarus premiered off-Broadway in 2015, a few months before Bowie’s death.
During the making of Lazarus, Bowie had a different idea than using his music. In an interview with GQ, novelist Michael Cunningham shared what Bowie originally envisioned for the show.

This is not the extraterrestrial gentrification that Alex Turner sings of in “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino”. But we do have an Alex here as well, riding the wave of his grief to land on Mars. Kyra Sedgwick’s Space Oddity is of the light at the end of the tunnel if you’re having one of those days. And if the devil on your shoulder is having a jolly day, you might as well take it as one of the few last gasps of a broken man trying to stay afloat. A Rom-com with a little bit of Sci-Fi sprinkled in, Space Oddity wishes to uphold the all-powerful rarity that is love in the face of engulfing hopelessness of a man seeking an odd death. Yet none of it’s for us. Stuffing in all the possible rom-com quirks the world has to offer, Space Oddity quite ironically feels severely disconnected from earthly people,...

Space Oddityis a film directed by Kyra Sedgwick starring Kyle Allen and Alexandra Shipp.
Space Oddity is a charming and gentle film for the whole family about illusions, family, and faith in humanity.
If you hate Black Mirror, this could be a good alternative.
Or not.
Movie Review
No, it’s not a sci-fi movie with big special effects as you might imagine. Space Oddity is a very light-hearted look at family life on a farm and hopes for the future.
So, a movie that (we suppose) science fiction fans (who are quite busy writing novels with Chat Gpt) are not expecting and that is not the typical sweetened family movie either. Mind you, it is much closer to a good feelings telefilm than to a science fiction story.
It’s as if we took away all the special effects, the action and Christopher Nolan from Interstellar. What would be left?...

The 1960s was the peak of many trends in classic rock. For example, ’60s psychedelic rock songs are probably better than the psychedelic rock songs of any other era. Notably, John Lennon said The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” wasn’t very psychedelic at first.
The Beatles | Bettmann / Contributor 5. The Beatles’ ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’
“Strawberry Fields Forever” might be the defining psychedelic rock song of the ’60s. In a 1980 interview from the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, John discussed its origin.
“Dick Lester offered me the part in this movie [How I Won the War], which gave me time to think without going home,” he recalled. “We were in Almería, and it took me six weeks to write the song. I was writing it all the time I was making the film. And as anybody knows about film work, there’s a lot of hanging around.

Andrew Legg’s film, shot on 16mm, tells the story of two women who have invented a machine that intercepts future television broadcasts
A clever riff on the time-travel genre, Andrew Legge’s small but mighty feature debut begins with a title card announcing the discovery of a mysterious cache of film reels in the 1940s. The grainy and jagged black-and-white footage, shot on a 16mm Bolex, turns out to be home movies made by Martha (Stefanie Martini) and Thomasina (Emma Appleton), two orphaned sisters who have devised a machine that can intercept broadcast signals from the future, and which they have named after their deceased mother.
The film impresses with its imaginative design: a circular monitor is affixed to a towering metal rig, suggesting a television screen as well as a fortune teller’s crystal globe. Glowing with prescient images – such as a video of David Bowie singing Space Oddity...

Elton John is a classic rock artist whose career extended beyond his 1970s peak. The piano-playing singer and songwriter scored several hits in the 1970s, reached the top once in the 1980s, and scored two Billboard No. 1 singles (“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “Candle in the Wind”) in the 1990s. He admired John Lennon for more than his music, but some of Elton’s fellow artists weren’t as kind. Here are four musicians who hated Elton John.

In their latest edition of “First Drafts of Rock,” Kevin Bacon and Jimmy Fallon have taken on the Rolling Stones’ 1966 hit “Paint It, Black.” In the clip, filmed for The Tonight Show, Bacon embodies Mick Jagger while Fallon becomes Keith Richards.
In their “first draft” of the rock song, the pair croon, “I go to Michaels/ And I ask, ‘Where is the paint?’/ They tell me, ‘Aisle 6’/ That’s where they keep the paint.” Later, the lyrics get even more meta: “I see a can of paint/I want to paint the paint.
