a great episode and a great ending for simon's character
MomentIMDB13 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Simon was an original character of the series very well developed and with great weight in the plot in this second half. good points: the episode has a good rhythm and there are not as many nonsense as in the previous episode. Carl's letter was very good. Dwigth was amazing and I loved his interaction with Simon and Negan. The fight between Negan and Simon was phenomenal. The revelation that Laura is alive took me by surprise and was shocking. The character of Negan was very intelligent and managed to eliminate all his problems. I liked that Michigan spoke with Deny and that he no longer accepts the surrender. bad points: why did maggie and rick believe gregory? why did gregory go to the sanctuary? wanted to die? The part of Daryl, Rosita and Eugene was no use.

A great episode!

Finally we get a bit of excitement. Great end for Simon's character. The later seasons of the walking dead are terrible. The only good episodes of season 8 are some guy, big scary u, worth. Are they trying to kill this show?!

Guys it's not a 1!
dmenzie11 April 2018
The lowest rating I have ever given this show is a 5, how anyone can rate something a 1 and still watch, that makes no sense to me. Stop watching end of story. Moving on after my brief rant decent episode the show is different and does not have much left. Hoping the finale is strong as the show has been weak since Negan has been introduced. 7 out of 10 is my vote not bad always could be better looking forward to ending this long season and starting fresh for season 9!

The most polarised community in televison.

Thie 2nd half of this season has finally got me writing a review again because unfortunately for me i just cant stand the constant 1 star and 10 star reviews that plague the reviews.

Im not going to spoil anything as many havent seen it yet but this episode is decent not brilliant but much better than "time for after "the 7th episode of the series.

I really do hope that the most helpful comment is one which scores the episode fairly with a realistic score, I hope that they dont pick apart the episode for the sake of it just because they cant have the show doing something they dont completely agree with.

All the critic aside. I really liked this episode. I think it was very entertaining and memorable. I think this is a kind of episode ( or season ) many will hate but with time it will be loved and praised.

Starting Over
ThomasDrufke9 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's interesting to think that at this time last week I was talking about how Rick and Negan were switching spots in their likability. It seemed like they were making a concerted effort to level the playing field and make their final confrontation (or at least the end of the war) more of a difficult thing mentally for viewers to process. However, now that this episode has almost switched that completely, I'm not sure how the finale will play out. Which, to the show's credit, was presented brilliantly by bookending the episode with a note from Carl to Rick and then Negan respectively.

It's weird to think Carl has had a bigger impact once he passed on the show than he did while he was alive. The impact of his letters are finally being felt. And I can't say that I didn't feel a significant amount of emotion when Rick was reading through Carl's letter as he wrote about everything from reminiscing to when he was a kid eating Friday night pizza to his time with Negan. There's something to be said for this show finally making its way towards building for a future rather than fighting for the present. It sure looks like we are getting that soon, whether that includes Rick & Negan alongside each other or not.

The big (albeit expected) death was that of Simon. His and Dwight's time on the show were numbered, but it was just a matter of who was going down first. Perhaps fittingly, Dwight double crossed Simon, who was then outed himself by Laura, the mysterious passenger Negan picked up in his car last week. I was always more interested in the Dwight character than I was with Simon, and so I was happy to see we got at least one more week with Austin Amelio, even if we had to let go of the brilliant Steven Ogg (who I've come around on quite a bit the past 2 seasons).

Overall, it was another solid episode in a very good second half of season 8. We're in a good place going into the finale next week.

8.3/10

A decent one
alexryn9 April 2018
To put it mildly I've been highly disappointed with the way the show was progressing for the past two seasons. All the timeline nonsense with only a month passing for the freaking 32 episodes (!), hence with Maggie showing no traces of pregnancy what so ever and just making it so hard to believe that so close relationships have been developed in such a short time period (Negan and Rick for instance). Don't get me wrong: considering the era the characters live in and all things that have happened it's perfectly normal to experience the infinity of events in just a month. In this particular case though that is in fact not-believable mainly because how contrived the storytelling has become. Not to mention how both, writers and directors, seemingly gave up on efforts and began manufacturing mediocracy. But thankfully something happened (in the second half of the season eighth) - every two weeks or so the audience was provided with more or less decent flick. For me it was this one and the tenth that delivered the most satisfaction. Finally! Nice composition, thick yet understandable and consistent plot, nice directing and even Eugene's way of expressing himself wasn't such an abomination (as it usually is) for me this time. Hope that they keep it up and we'll be able to at least enjoy the finale of this sorry-ass season.

TWD's heyday is long gone
wlion19959 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Gosh it's really painful nowadays to watch this show without complaining about the boring, predictable, slow and dumb writing.

How could there be only 2 saviors guarding outside the bullet factory while it's their most important outpost now? Rosita and Daryl's easily capturing Eugene makes the Saviors look like a bunch of careless idiots. But even worse than that, these two letting Eugene escape (and we have Daryl, an expert in tracking?) makes them dumber characters.

And then we have Simon, who gathers all of the Saviors who want to overthrow Negan in the backyard. Wow such a smart choice of place to discuss backstabbing plan, as if no one won't happen to walk by and hear all about that? Simon died because no one who is as idiotic as him should become a leader.

And then we have Gregory leaving the arena fight, accompanied by Dwight, without being seen by a single one savior? Really? And then Aaron convinces Oceanside to join the war by...doing nothing? What exactly has he done to earn that? We have been waiting since the last time we saw him in ep 10 just for this implausible bullshit?

And don't think that the whole Laura thing would surprise us, we would have predicted that 200 years ago that she was the one Negan drove home. Predictable af, even that fake plan that Negan makes up for Dwight to deliever is predictable too.

There are a lot of terrible things that I can say about this episode but I'm too bored to write more. All of TWD characters, both new and old ones, even those who used to be interesting have become bland now. The only one I care if he dies now is Dwight. Thank God this boring war will end next week and Fear The Walking Dead will come back to wipe this boredom away.

Worthy
TheLittleSongbird22 August 2022
Was not impressed by Season 8 on the whole, wasn't that taken with Season 7 either but 8 was more problematic with a higher number of bad episodes. The season admittedly did get better with episodes like "The Lost and the Plunderers" and "The Key", but the first half of it was incredibly shaky to say the least (and that is being generous) with a large percentage of bad episodes. Am saying this as a fan of 'The Walking Dead' pre-Season 7 and as someone who has always aimed to be encouraging when reviewing, this is not coming from someone wanting to hate or following the crowd.

Season 8 is not exempt from good episodes, and one of those good episodes that is up there with the season's better efforts is its penultimate outing "Worth". Not great or a 'The Walking Dead' high point, but a worthy effort that doesn't disgrace the show in the way that the season's first half did. "Worth" says goodbye to a major character, and it turns out to be one of the better character exits in a long time and it contains some of the season's best acting.

By all means, "Worth" is not perfect. It is a bit too talk heavy and some of it rambles, like the typical long winded dialogues of Negan. It does have moments of ridiculousness, especially in the Saviors subplot and everything with Eugene.

Did find Eugene's contribution to the story extraneous irritating padding and those that dislike or even hate Eugene are not going to be converted, he is as annoying as ever.

However, so much is good here in "Worth". It is worth it for the brilliant performance of Steven Ogg, the best individual performance of the season. It is a fiercely chilling and powerful turn and he has electrifying chemistry with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who also delivers on the chills and menace. The death is truly brutal and doesn't feel gratuitous or a cheap way to get rid of somebody, like too many of the character exits in recent years. The whole climax is exciting and the episode does finish a lot more strongly than it started. The rest of the acting is fine, though Ogg is in a different league to everyone else.

Furthermore, it has a genuinely atmospheric look and it is one of the few Season 8 episodes where the photography, which tended to be disorganised and self-indulgent, wasn't a problem. Kudos too to the makeup and prosthetics, which are some of the most accomplished and creepiest in a while. The writing is not perfect but it is thought provoking and intriguing. The music is suitably ominous.

Unlike most of the season's episodes, there is forward momentum and progression (apart from with Eugene), feeling like it's going somewhere rather than being too much like filler. The story has tautness and tension, especially in the last act, and the beginning with Rick is touching. Failing only with Eugene.

Overall, not great but for Season 8 quite impressive. 7/10.

Predictable but Great.
mpw-235069 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Great. Very minor gripes with this one because what I did have problems with ended up being a very minimal part of the episode. I was very happy to finally hear what Carl had said to Rick and Negan and I hope that if not shown on television his letters to Enid and Michonne get posted somewhere. His letter to rick felt very heartfelt and real and I think it did leave an impression on Rick that will end with Negan staying alive. I thought Simons death was predictable but I was happy with how it turned out. I have been saying since season 8 episode 12 that when Negan and Simon meet up again Simon will die. When that finally happened the suspense waiting for something you knew would happen happen was real. Only real issues were with the Oceanside. Now I'm 100% sure that they are just boring people and there's really no other factor. Great episode, 9.5/10.

Warning: Spoilers
After a month of episodes where nothing happened we finally got something happening. The show gave us two big deaths, both sort of in the form of friendly fire, and it built up anticipation to the season finale.

We finally saw a little cleverness from the Negan character, a dimension he has been missing for most of his run.

Don't understand
ottawa10111 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I found out that Simon was killed so I had to watch even though I promised to wait for the DVD so I didn't have to sit through the hundreds of commercials.

Anyway, a few thing I do not understand.

Simon wants to take over. I get that. He disagrees with Negan. Rather than pull people aside discreetly, he hosts a town hall meeting in the middle of the back yard in mid day. Apparently that was not the way to go.

Eugene is given the task of building bullets. I get that. Most bullet manufacturers are out of business and Walmart is not open...that whole zombie thing. Negan appoints Eugene as bullet maker. As important a job as it is, there are a whopping 6 people sitting around the table, ONE OF THEM BLIND trying to make bullets. Eugene steps outside and the two lookouts guarding everything are killed and Eugene is captured. Now, I get staffing cutbacks. Minimum wages are going up and budgets must be met so he may want to skimp on the help. But while we have 6 people including a blind guy making all your bullets, we have 80 guys standing around watching Negan and Simon bare knuckle each other. 6 guys to make your weapons under no guard, 80 guys to stand around watching Apollo and Rocky. Apparently that was not the way to go.

Arron, or whatever his name is, was rolling around in the mud trying to get the ocean side group (remember them??) to join the battle. They had the same dramatic non committal pause this week as they've had the last two seasons. Next week is season finale so I guess they'll show up? Maybe on white horses like last year's battle. Blast some trumpets on the way in. Da da da da...charge!. Apparently that will be the way to go.

Dwight gives Gregory the map to bring to Hilltop. When push comes to shove and when your back is against the wall, we all know that Gregory is the guy you want to turn to. Who of us would not pick Gregory to make that run? The character just instils confidence. Seriously Dwight, staple the map to a walkers forehead and send him out. Now in all fairness, he made the trip but wait, as Admiral Ackbar would say; IT'S A TRAP!

Finally Simon and Negan fight to the death. In Season 7-1 Negan says, "get a right hand man otherwise you have a whole lot of work" Simon, lasts 45 seconds. Lucille would have ended it in 15 seconds. Apparently Negan is not so concerned with work. He killed the only character on the show worth watching.

Negan´s Henchmen
claudio_carvalho11 April 2018
Daryl and Rosita abduct Eugene and while walking to Hilltop, Eugene manages to flee and return to the Sanctuary. Negan discloses a plan to destroy Hilltop but Dwight uses Gregory to drive to Hilltop to show the plan to Rick. Simon plots a scheme to overthrow Negan. "Worth" is an episode with many plot predictable but also exciting plot points. The despicable Eugene escaping from Daryl and Rosita is the weakest. Simon turning into a walker is great, but the best one is the discussion between Negan and Dwight in the end of the episode. Looking forward to see the last episode of this notorious season with the expectation of a great episode for the redemption of this series. My vote is eight.

Amazing, best episode of the season
evanstandard9 April 2018
Don't be alarmed by any of the 1 star reviews on here because this whole half of the walking dead has been amazing. This episode was my favorite of the whole season and showed that Negan is not to be messed with behind his back. This set the show up for hopefully a fantastic finale that should wrap up the whole all out war arc. I strongly recommend for anyone that left the show to come back to season 8B because it has been nothing short of awesomeness with true walking dead moments.

Rather enjoyable
tylergeebs9 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It feels like people have been finding ways to pick at this show with every tiny mistake it makes, so far the second half of the season has been a big improvement to its previous first 8 episodes,

this episode wrapped up simon's storyline as well as dwight's betrayal to the saviors which was rather well done i must admit

however i did feel that rosita and daryl capturing eugene was sorta wasteful considering he just ends up escaping anyway

this episode gets a 9 for me because the pacing was well done and so far made up for the terrible first half of season 8

Great episode!
bigmicah-781329 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Before I even start, ignore the 1 or 2 star reviews on this website. Clearly they don't know a great episode when they see one or they are just trolling people lol. Anyways, this episode last night was crazy. Even though some events that happened were predictable, I still enjoyed it. Just to be clear, I now hate Eugene. However, I loved how he escaped from Rosita and Darryl when he threw up on Rosita. That for some reason made me laugh. When Dwight told Negan about Simon, I was surprised and I loved how Negan and Simon fought each other because if like Negan just bashed Simon's head in with his bat for example then that would've been a stupid death. I knew that girl Laura went with Negan and when she appeared I thought Dwight was done, but Negan kept him alive. Carl's letters were great as well. Carl's letter to Rick was great, but Michonne reading Negan's letter to Negan himself at the end surprised me. Now we shall see what happens in the Season 8 finale.

9.5 out of 10. Ignore the hate, I think this show is still getting better.

Can we finally kill off Rick?!
rsvp32123 April 2018
After watching the final two episodes of this season, I am seriously wondering - why can't they kill off Rick now?

He's a terrible leader, made himself King and doing things for completely selfish reasons.

A note to the current crew of untalented writers that have spent the past two years to accomplish absolutely *nothing* for the audience, put Daryl and Carol back into main roles (we hardly see them anymore - second string characters!), and make Michonne a badass again!

Warning: Spoilers
WTF! Kill off Carl? WTF! Kill off every decent person...and leave snarling vicious, psychotic and unlikeable slugs and reverse roles? Rick has become the vicious mad dog killer hinted at through all the seasons. And now, even the stalwarts are blathering gibberish over and over again, that becomes pedantic. Remember what made this show great and return to it. Or, as another has already decried, ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL THIS THING?

NEGAN truly proves he his all his bragging, well played.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos9 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Worth, the penultimate episode for Season 8 is easily my fav thus far as we get paid off for the long awaited showdown between seemingly all seeing and all knowing Negan and bidding his time, hyper ambitious, serial killer and nearly as eloquently loquacious Simon.

My hopes that this would be done in a manner deserving of a coo attempt discovered in a major gang, such as the Aryan Brotherhood or a 1% MC were rewarded. Negan not only resisted the temptation of bashing in Simon's skull with Lucielle while walking around the meeting table with bat in hand reminiscent of a mafia movie, but he actually gives Simon a chance by fighting him mano a mano, sans weapons, in front of everyone to prove once and for all who was toughest and therefore most deserving to be leader of the Saviours.

Negan quotes Ric Flair: "If you want to be the man, you've got to beat the man".

Not unexpectedly Simon started with a sucker punch and momentarily appeared to be winning a fairly even blow for blow battle until Negan quickly combined a head butt with a leg sweep putting Simon on his back essentially finishing the fight as all that was left was for Negan to choke out Simon who if nothing else provided a good character study of someone with the backbone to not just fantasize about going from follower to leader but actually attempted to bring his plan to fruition. RIP Simon!

Bravo! The rest of this episode was basically filler, at least to me.

Pro: Benedict Eugene making good use of his sardine diet and a pile of human ashes, making a "Rick Speech" to his workers solidifying he is Negan as Daryl and Rositta confirmed his treachery is now beyond the point of return with Rick's group, Negan stringing along and setting up Dwight (who I REALLY like) and Gregory (who I really don't), Walker Simon tied to the fence.

Con: Coral's sappy letters to begin and end the show (your mileage may vary but please just let it go already NO ONE is listening to them), the Ocean Side chicks who hate men even those of Aaron's persuasion (yah I know, I know they will show up for the final fight), people complaining about "bad 1 star" reviews- if you haven't figured out its one dude with multiple accounts, just ignore least you give him the attention he craves, please at least think about it.

Do the writers literally want to kill this show?
svdijk8 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Literally nothing made sense in this once again, horrible episode of The walking dead. Sure, lets kill the only actor that actually was the only reason to watch this show off, Steven Ogg A.K.A Simon! Brilliant idea writers! My god this is pathetic. Also why keep Dwight as a prisoner and not just kill him as well? Simon wanted to get rid of everybody that were a threat for the saviors to keep them save. Seems like a good reason to put him in a cell but they kill him of because he wanted savety for the saviors? And the guy that literally betrayed the saviors gets only jailtime? My god that is some terrible writing right there. Dwight is the reason why all of there outposts have been wiped out. But no, he only gets jailtime... This might be one of the worst written episodes ever in the history of telivision. Shame on you writers! If you didn't have such a huge amount of braindead fans that will litteraly accept anything on this show, bad writing or good writing then this show would have already been dead after season 6.

-5/10 for this horrible episode!

Writers are drunk again...
louis-17010 April 2018
After terrible 8A season, we had some improvement in 8B, but they managed to blow that away with last episode. They tried to make twists and turns but whole thing was very predictable and boring. They didn't show my favorite girl Jadis today... Aaron scenes were pathetic... Eugene scenes were laughable... Meggie is still hot and don't look pregnant. They even managed to kill off one the best characters and one of the best actors in the series. Come on.

9.2/10 Warning: Spoilers
Another underrated top tier s8b episode. Rick reads Carl's letter. The first half of it was explaining how good life was before the outbreak and the second half of it was explaining how if they make peace with Negan so that they can have that same life. It was kind of emotional but we did not need Coral babbling about pizza for 2 minutes.

Gregory is then seen talking to Simon so that must've been who Negan picked up in the forest. Simon is mad at Gregory because his intel was incorrect. Gregory gets drunk and goes on a rant about how he can manage the other communities. This was a pretty funny scene but not even a bad one. Simon knocks Gregory to the floor and puts Simon in a position of, coffee maker?.

We then go to Eugenius who is managing the bullet manufacture and also carrying the show. Gabriel sabotages the bullets and Eugene suspends him and also makes him cry. And then, Eugene tells him, to try and not cry so loud. How can you hate this man. He goes outside with some Saviors who are quickly shot down by Daryl and Rosita who've come to rescue him. They tell him that they are going to put him in a whole and only let him out to use his knowledge. Ironic considering they are planning on using the exact same thing The Saviors used Eugene for except they are planning on treating him terribly. Eugenius Porter outsmarts the minorities though. When Daryl goes to kill a group of walkers. Eugene sticks his fingers down his throat and throws up on Rosita. He escapes, hides, and they run past him.

Negan then returns and talks to all the head Saviors including Simon who is shocked and tries to make excuses for his loss at The Hilltop. Negan forgives him and then goes over his new plans. Later, Simon goes to Dwight's room and tells him that him and a bunch of other Saviors are going to try to kill Negan. Dwight agrees. They head outside and hatch a plan but then other Saviors come along and kill all the Saviors except Simon and Dwight. Dwight had betrayed Simon and told Negan about his plan. Kinda doesn't make sense though because Dwight wants Negan dead. Negan being Negan decides to let Simon have a fight to the death. They fight inside the Sanctuary with everybody watching. During the fight, Dwight gives a note to Gregory and tells him to give it to Rick. Gregory leaves and Dwight continues to watch as Negan quickly overpowers him and chokes Simon to death. Gregory makes his way back to the Hilltop where the main group look over Negan's plans that Dwight gave to Gregory. Negan and Dwight go for a walk back to Dwight room and when Dwight enters the whoor looking mf who told Eugene he couldn't have lobster after telling him they have any food is back. She was the one Negan picked up on the side of the road and Gregory just came back himself. This genuinely shocked me and I forgot her character existed. Negan reveals to Dwight that the plan Gregory gave to Rick was fake and he's leading them into a trap. At the end of the episode we get an awesome scene of Michonne reading Carl's letter to Negan over a walkie talkie. The letter asks to stop the fighting but Negan tells her that Rick started it and he's going to finish it before crushing the walkie talkie. There was unfortunately 2 minutes of Aaron screwing around in the woods but other than that this episode was all round great. Simon's conclusion was amazingly done.

The episode's climax, with the reveal of Negan's escape and the final confrontation between Rick and Negan, sets the stage for the season's dramatic conclusion
fernandoschiavi25 March 2024
Cyndie and her crew find Aaron in the woods near Oceanside. Cyndie says that it isn't their problem if Aaron wants to starve. He continues to fight off Walkers in a weakened state, and repeatedly wins. Cyndie's group eventually returns, and he makes one more attempt to convince them to join the fight.

Daryl and Rosita decide to kidnap Eugene, to get intelligence and prevent more bullets from being made. Eugene attempts to explain himself, but Rosita dismisses his words, saying he's a coward who would sacrifice his only friends in order to live. Eugene later escapes, and makes it back to the bullet factory. There he orders the final order of ammunition to be finished for a trap that Negan has set.

Negan returns to the Sanctuary, where he allows Simon to trap himself and reveal that he is attempting a coup. In a fight in front of all of the Saviors, Negan first beats, and then strangles Simon. Later, Negan reveals to Dwight that he had picked up Laura on the way back to the Sanctuary. She told him about Dwight's betrayal. Negan has deliberately given Dwight false information, which Dwight gave Gregory to rush back to the Hilltop. Because of this, the Survivors will now be walking into a trap that will wipe them out and finish the war.

One of the most striking aspects of "Worth" is Eugene's storyline, as he wrestles with his guilt over his betrayal of the survivors. His interactions with Gabriel, who is also grappling with his own sense of guilt and redemption, highlight the complexity of their characters and the moral ambiguity of their actions. The episode also explores the theme of leadership, as Negan's grip on the Saviors begins to falter and his lieutenants question his leadership.

The episode's climax, with the reveal of Negan's escape and the final confrontation between Rick and Negan, sets the stage for the season's dramatic conclusion. The tension and suspense build to a satisfying crescendo, as the survivors must finally decide the fate of their enemy and the future of their world.
