Was planned as an Original Sci-Fi short, but when special FX people pulled out, the script was adapted into the world of Star Trek and produced as a fan film because Matthew Lee Blackburn already had a number of props (Phaser, Tricorder, DS9 era uniform) that could be readily used.
For the scene where Matthew Lee Blackburn is dragged by the alien, Paul William Blackburn (his father) dragged him by the feet off camera (and enjoyed doing so).
The final shot of the shuttle flying away was a micro machine Star Trek shuttle attached to a chopstick back-lit against the sun.
The Alien was an action figure of the Newborn from Alien Resurrection used in forced perspective.
Takes place in the post Star Trek: Nemesis, Deep Space Nine era but before J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009), referencing the tensions between federation, Romulans, and Vulcans, but takes most direct inspiration from Star Trek: Countdown (the comic prequel to Star Trek (2009) as it includes Data as a Captain, and displays of Romulan aggression toward Vulcans (cutting off tips of ears as a sign of dominance etc.)
