- Cortez: [in Grey having her cornered at gunpoint] Grey, this isn't you.
- Grey Trace: [Stem speaking through Grey in having taken over his body] Grey's not here anymore. He's in a better place... in his mind, where he wants to be. I've taken over now. A fake world is a lot less painful than the real one. All I needed was for his mind to break, and he broke it.
- Cortez: [sobbing and shaking her head] No.
- Grey Trace: [as Stem is still speaking through Grey, and as Cortez grimaces in bracing for Grey's gunshot, which kills her] Goodbye.
- [the scene shifts several times between the aftermath of Grey shooting Cortez, to Grey in his mind in the fake world, the latter where he is lying in a hospital bed while Asha comforts him]
- Grey Trace: See, you thought I was a cripple but you didn't know that I'm a ninja.
- Stem: While I am state of the art, I am not a ninja.
- Grey Trace: Stem, he's got a knife!
- Stem: [calmly] I see that. We have a knife, too.
- [Grey, under Stem's control, takes the knife from the assailant and stabs him]
- Stem: It does not make sense that humans deliberately malfunction.
- Grey Trace: Yeah, that's because your memories are filled with ones and zeros, pal, and our memories are filled with every fuck-up we've ever made.
- Grey Trace: [while being choked] Help!
- Stem: I need your permission to operate independently.
- Grey Trace: Permission granted.
- [Stem takes control and fights the assailant]
- Stem: May I point something out?
- Grey Trace: Hello? Okay, who's saying that?
- Stem: I am Stem. The system operating your body for you. Don't be afraid.
- Grey Trace: [finally taking a breath, terrified] You fuckin' kidding me?
- Stem: [in a deadpan tone] No.
- Grey Trace: I've lost my mind. I've gone insane. I'm fucking insane.
- Stem: Your medical records indicated you with a mild case of PTSD, but you are not "insane".
- Grey Trace: [confused] So what? Y-you've just been there this whole time?
- Stem: Since the completion of the operation. I have been observing everything you've observed.
- Grey Trace: D-do you have to talk?
- Stem: If you want me to, I do not have to.
- Grey Trace: Okay, then yeah, don't talk.
- Eron Keen: As a quadriplegic it must be frustrating for you for someone who likes to get things done with their hands.
- Stem: Grey's not here anymore, he's in a better place, in his mind, where he wants to be, I've taken over now. A fake world is a lot less painful than the real one. All I needed was for his mind to break, and he broke it.
- Grey Trace: [as he struggles for control against Stem and not wanting to kill Cortez] You are not in control...!
- [points the gun to his neck where the Stem chip is supposed to be, about to pull the trigger]
- Grey Trace: ...I AM!

- [Grey is fixing up a classic muscle car. Getting behind the wheel, he, with a pensive look on his face, turns the key in the ignition, and the engine successfully turns over as he revs it, he then turning the engine off]
- Grey Trace: [placing his hands firmly on the dashboard] I love you.
