A little special

"And now you're giving me, giving me...nothing but shattered dreams, shattered dreams...". Greetings from the video clip world! This promo short clip for Johnny Hates Jazz is the black and white one directed by David Fincher - there is another clip, a colorful and more popular one, and slightly better than this video.

JHJ performs their hit song in this piece interacting with the objects of an apartment, or better saying it's all superimposed images of the group members interacting with the objects (sometimes they're inside a sink or become a minor figure on a wall). A nice thing to see, even though the effects seem dated and cheap but Mr. Fincher uses of a elegant monochromatic cinematography that seems to heighten the beauty of the lead singer - something that didn't happen with the colored clip. Those sparkling eyes staring at us from time to time.

The note given here is mostly because of the sound, one of my favorite tunes and the video wasn't so dreadful; it just looks strange and doesn't help the song all that much. Fincher was already a master with the camera and music videos, his resume is impeccable in going from Steve Winwood to Madonna and many others...but this one was a minor exercise for him to develop his style and full presence. It's harmless and nice to see it. 7/10
