First music video directed by Chris Cuffaro.
To raise money to shoot the video, director Chris Cuffaro sold half of his guitar collection and borrowed the rest from friends to complete the budget of $20k.
Shot in 2 days (October 3-4, 1991).
Pearl Jam's record label at the time, Epic Records, decided to shelve the video and not use it. Chris Cuffaro was told by the label that the band was getting big and they wanted something more polished. Cuffaro thought the video he made was a perfect representation of the band at the time. They had only released live videos and he knew that Eddie Vedder wasn't thrilled with "polished" videos. Pearl Jam went on to make another video for the song with Mark Pellington, and it won four MTV Video Music Awards.
