Steve Harvey will ring in 2018 the same way he spends every other day of his life: hosting.
The ubiquitous TV emcee is adding Fox’s New Year’s Eve With Steve Harvey: Live From Times Square to his already busy plate. (Harvey currently hosts Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud, Miss Universe, Little Big Shots, Little Big Shots: Forever Young, Steve Harvey’s Funderdome, the daytime talker Steve and — deep exhale — Fox’s revival of Showtime at the Apollo.)

Summer 2017 will unfortunately be remembered for its real-life horrors, from Nazi-loving white supremacists marching in Charlottesville to the devastation of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Americans looking to escape the barrage of bad news didn’t do it in the movie theaters, where domestic box office was at its lowest in decades. But they did flock to television — and two shows in particular.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” aren’t new, but they are small-screen staples that experienced tremendous ratings lifts this season. Even as audiences continue to move to streaming services and other platforms, there’s still room for appointment TV, as viewers still watch linearly (or, at least, relatively fast via time-shifting) in order to stay in the pop culture conversation.

Controversy be damned, Discovery’s “Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White” took a bite out of the competition.
The special because Discovery’s highest-rated Shark Week telecast ever across adults 25-54, women 25-54, and women 18-49, and was last Sunday’s No. 1 basic cable show in primetime in the key adults 18-49 demo. Discovery’s “Shark-Croc Showdown” also made it into the week’s top 25 telecasts among adults 18-49.

Disney Channel also had reason to crow last week, as the premiere of “Descendants 2” on July 21 averaged 8.6 million viewers on Disney Channel alone after three days worth of DVR usage. The telecast was simulcast on ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Xd, Freeform, Lifetime and Lifetime Movies, and Disney said it ultimately reached 21 million total viewers via various platforms.
Disney also reports that “Descendants 2” was the No.

To paraphrase everyone’s favorite “Game of Thrones” star, Ed Sheeran: HBO is on its way to another castle on Nielsen hill.
(Apologies for that.) After three days worth of time-shifted DVR and VOD usage, last Sunday’s Season 7 premiere of “Game of Thrones” jumped to a 5.6 rating among adults 18-49, obliterating everything in its path. That was up 19% from the show’s already strong live+same day number.
What’s more, the rebroadcasts that night of last year’s finale, as well as the premiere (which repeated at 10:05 p.m. Et) also made it into the week’s top 25 adults 18-49 chart.
Earlier in the week, HBO reported that the Season 7 premiere reached a gross audience of 16.1 million viewers (Linear Plays + Same Day DVR Playback + Hbogo/HBO Now) up 50 percent from last year’s premiere. Per HBO, that performance set a record as the most watched premiere...

The Independence Day holiday fell on a Tuesday this year, putting a bit of a crimp in the mid-week ratings for broadcast and cable networks – but ultimately not impacting summer darling “Big Brother.”
The reality vet’s Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday episodes were the top-rated programs among adults 18-49 for the week ending July 9, 2017, while the Sunday episode was the most-watched show overall with total viewers.
Among premieres, FX touted the July 5 launch of “Snowfall,” which averaged a 1.0 rating with adults 18-49 and 2.24 million total viewers, when three days of DVR and VOD usage is included. Per FX, of the 30 cable drama series premieres year-to-date, the premiere telecast of “Snowfall” ranked in the Top 5 with adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and adults 25-54.
Shows just bubbling under on this chart include TNT’s recently renewed “Claws,” which averaged 2.1 million viewers in its July 9 airing (bumping up 77% when timeshifted viewing is included...

“Little Big Shots” spinoff “Forever Young” grew week over week on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough for NBC to compete with CBS and “Big Brother” in the key 18-49 demographic. The Steve Harvey-hosted series did top its 8 p.m. time slot among total viewers, however. CBS was first in ratings with a 1.0 rating/4 share in the advertiser-coveted demo and in total viewers with an average of 4.7 million, according to preliminary numbers. NBC and Fox tied for second in ratings, both with a 0.7/3. NBC was second in total viewers with 3.9 million, Fox was fourth with 2.1 million. Also Read:...
