Writers Harry and Jack Williams, best known for the gripping thriller “The Missing,” showcase Kate Beckinsale’s considerable talents in “The Widow,” an intriguing mystery-adventure that ultimately suffers from trying to shoehorn in too many storylines. Set in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the eight-episode series also contributes to the self-perpetuating canon of white-savior narratives, despite efforts to present the Congolese with far more range and depth than has been seen traditionally on screen.
We meet Georgia Wells (Beckinsale) as a miserable hermit in a remote part of Wales. She’s still mourning the loss of her husband Will Mason (Matthew Le Nevez), who died three years ago in an airplane explosion over the Congo. A glimpse of his telltale orange baseball cap on the news leads her to believe he might still be alive, and thus begins her African adventure in which she plays amateur sleuth and dusts off her rusty Army skills.

Jodi Balfour admits that appearing on “The Crown” was “a two-fold challenge.” She was already a fan of the Netflix series, and on top of that she was tasked with playing iconic first lady Jackie Kennedy. “I was incredibly nervous just being a part of something that I think is so incredible, and then to enter into that playing someone who comes with a lot of baggage” made the actress feel “a huge responsibility, but one that was incredibly exciting.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Balfour above.

It’s impossible to talk about “Rellik,” the new detective series from Cinemax, without diving into how it’s told. Moving backwards from the end of a serial killer investigation and told in reverse order, there’s an immediate sense that this is not like other shows. Even unlike “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” which kept entire episodes moving forward as it gradually worked its way back through a murder-filled timeline, “Rellik” is a sequence of scenes and interactions that hop back in time in a half-dozen ways every chapter.
The one benefit that this structure offers “Rellik” is the ability to put the audience in a detective’s mindset more explicitly than any other detective show. As Dci Gabriel Markham (Richard Dormer) wades through the oppressively dark waters of a string of murders and acid attacks, “Rellik” leaves it to the viewer to hunt for clues...

Killing Eve Season 2 is set for more audacious bloodshed on BBC America.
Killing Eve impressed audiences with its stylistically subversive, thrilling, hilarious and terrifying spy story that also happens to be from a female perspective. BBC America obviously knew it had something special on its hands from the get-go, renewing Killing Eve for a second season before the first season even began airing!
Killing Eve showcases the dark, yet irreverent, rivalry between Sandra Oh’s unassuming MI5 pencil-pusher, Eve Polastri, and Jodie Comer’s psychopathic assassin, Villanelle — and it's been groundbreaking.
Indeed, the inagural season of the series reaped awards season accolades, nabbing a 2019 Golden Globes “Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama” win for Sandra Oh, as well as a “Best Television Series – Drama” nomination. Plus, it earned 2018 Primetime Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” for Oh, and “Outstanding...

“Rellik” is “Killer” spelled backwards, which is one thing the trailer for the new Cinemax serial killer miniseries doesn’t actually put in reverse.
Without getting too much into logistics, this first glimpse shows that through the eyes of Gabriel (Richard Dormer), a British detective, the hunt for a murderer works backwards from the crime at hand to try to catch the person responsible. Gabriel himself is the victim of an attack, as the acid burns on his face show.
In the meantime, amidst all the dispatch teams and shotgun blast victims moving like an inverted Gif, Gabriel’s partner Elaine (Jodi Balfour) tries to sort through her own co-worker’s motivations for bringing these particular suspects to justice.
Time will tell if, as another Dormer character once put it, “The enemy always wins.”
In addition to Dormer and Balfour, “Rellik” also marks the very welcome TV return for Paterson Joseph,...
