Quotes

  • Detective Marcus Bell : Look, I just came by to say thanks for being my eyes and ears the last few days. And to let you know that I'm going to talk to someone, about all the stuff that came up that I obviously haven't been dealing with.

Sherlock Holmes : I don't presume to know the details of what your father did to you and your family. But, um... I've seen enough parental abuse to know that one thing is always the same: when someone whose job it is to nurture you, hurts you instead, it-it can't help but have a profound and lasting effect on your sense of who you are. I stopped you from beating Ukhov because I didn't want you to throw away your career, but more importantly, I didn't want you to throw away yourself. I mean, I might be this extraordinary detective, but you are an extraordinary man. And that's a far, far more precious thing... isn't it?

  • [Bell is preparing to ambush Ukhov outside his house, when a hooded figure runs up to Ukhov, hits him over the head, and drives off in his Ferrari. A moment later, Bell's phone rings]

    Detective Marcus Bell : Hello?

Sherlock Holmes : Leave Mr. Ukhov be, he can call his own ambulance.

Detective Marcus Bell : Wait, was that... was that you?

Sherlock Holmes : He won't be leaving the country tonight after all.

  • Detective Marcus Bell : What the hell did you do tonight?

Sherlock Holmes : Stopped you from doing far worse, if my reading is right.

Detective Marcus Bell : So you could beat him up instead? Why stop me at all?

Sherlock Holmes : There's that disappointment again. Vengeance interruptus. Look, I didn't stop you to spare Ukhov a beating, the man is a piece of excrement, he deserves ten times worse. You were going to throw away your career, and I wasn't going to let that happen.

  • Sherlock Holmes : He's not going to run.

Detective Marcus Bell : How the hell could you possibly know that, huh? I'm the one who talked to the guy, not you.

Sherlock Holmes : We know that on at least two occasions, he savagely beat his wife, and he made no attempt to flee. Why? Because he thinks that his lawyers and his money make him bulletproof. I've seen it hundreds of times.

Detective Marcus Bell : Yeah, but we're not just trying to hang Chantal's assault on him, we're trying to hang a homicide.

Sherlock Holmes : Well, to a man like that, the difference is negligible. Trust me.

Detective Marcus Bell : Yeah, I trust you.

  • Sherlock Holmes : So Watson mentioned the story you told her about your mother being severely injured after being hit by a car... she wasn't hit by a car though, was she? Did your father strike her frequently?

Detective Marcus Bell : ...Not just her. How did you know?

Sherlock Holmes : There have always been signs. There almost always are when it comes to victims of abuse.
