James Wong Howe was one of those great cinematographers who really knew how to paint with lights. Howe in this engrossing and illuminating 21-minute documentary gives a highly informative tutorial on the proper way to light a scene. Moreover, Howe also discusses his philosophy on cinematography by pointing out that the mood is dictated by the story and the way actors move in a scene. Howe further notes that every picture has its own problems and that the director's relationship with the cinematographer should be very close. In addition, Howe shares a few anecdotes on a couple of movies that he shot. Well worth a watch.
