Future director Roger Spottiswoode talks about his experiences editing "Straw Dogs" for legendary maverick director Sam Peckinpah in this nifty 36-minute documentary. Spottiswoode reveals that editing "Straw Dogs" was a turning point in his career and admits that he was impressed with how well made the film was after rewatching it. Spottiswoode also talks about how Peckinpah had fired about a third of his crew and never told him exactly what to do. Moreover, Spottiswoode relates a great story about the screening of the dailies for a difficult sequence that he had cut together and being quite relieved that Peckinpah was pleased with the results. In addition, Spottiswoode points out that Peckinpah's approach to filmmaking was to get stuff out of the crew without telling him and basically letting the people fly instead. Worth a watch.
