Relatable story

I found the film to touch upon some very relatable themes in a funny witty way. Very well done.

Couldn't get past the first minutes!

Am I missing something here? This film starts off so bad , like a badly acted children's movie, it just didn't make me want to waste any more time with it! I apologise if it got better but I rate a movie by the opening stanzas - if they are bad I don't hold much hope for the rest of the movie!

Warning: Spoilers
Eric Newman, a shy corporate professional who is nearing thirty, gets laid off out of the blue. He meets up with a long-lost friend named Raj who is dreaming of creating a start-up. However, nothing is ever that simple in life and they soon discover that they may be giving up way too much of their lives before they make it.

Appiness was directed by filmmaker Eli Batalion, who also made the web series YidLife Crisis. So much of it hits way too close to home, because I am in the midst of a career shift and as a result, I spend my evenings staring at the TV, worried that my life is about to fall apart.

So yeah. I get it.

Fun indie comedy

As someone that's worked in small start-ups, I definitely get where this film is coming from. I found it quite funny and pretty true-to-form.

A fantastic, lighthearted movie

It's rare to watch a movie that keeps you smiling, but Appiness delivers on that front. This is a creative, quirky and cute take on our technology-driven society and our strange social dynamics, and all the characters are truly relatable. Strong acting, punchy writing, and the pacing was just right. Well done!!

Great Movie

Perfectly captures the funniest parts of start-up culture. Well-acted and above-average production value for an indie. I know drone-shots are easier nowadays.. but great to see that they did it so well. Great to see a movie filmed in Montreal as well.

Loved it

Good IT startup comedy. As a rather critical cinephile I find it harder and harder to discover watchable movies. Liked this one. It's funny but not over the top, touch of tragedy, good acting. Don't expect a hilarious thigh slapper and you will be fine.

Saw it at the premiere a few months back was was amazing at how the cast and crew made a movie of this caliber in just a few days. It was everything you want humour, heart and hilarity!

Silicon Valley meets TGIF Rom-Com -- super funny!
drawninward-4562426 February 2020
Think: a slightly more TGIF, rom-commy version of Silicon Valley. Warm, razor sharp wit, and apropro of the current tech bubble, this film is a light-hearted and fun way to spend an evening. Highly recommended.
