After a series of depressing gloomy episodes, we get an episode that is only depressing half the time and an absolute blast the other half! Rewind as the name suggest turns back the clock to show us Fitz's journey all the time he was not with the time, and it offers crucial plot points, necessary context, heart, amazing performances (seriously, Iain is an acting legend and people who don't recognize his talent need their eyes checked), fun action and a dose of nostalgia, Fitz and Hunter are friendship goals! And I thought I missed Hunter before the episode, I had no idea how much!
The episode also features some nice touches and callbacks, Robin coming back was quite the interesting turn of events because it ties back to an older episode while giving it a new meaning. The effects of the framework on Fitz are very well done, we see Fitz becoming more aggressive and quicker to action, you could even see it in the smaller details of Iain's performance (hence, legend!). There is a throw away line here that is actually foreshadowing for a thing to come, it left me amazed at how seamless the writing is on the show.
I also liked the two FBI agents tasked with Fitz as they actually had some character to them, particularly the female agent asking Fitz if he was OK when she thought the pressure was getting to him!
I have one small nitpick with the episode, there is a shot of soldiers shooting on a plane that looked silly, but really, it's one second in a stellar 42 minutes, I'll let it pass!
