Blowing is Right

Like giving a deer head and a camera to teenagers and telling them to make a horror film. The drama was so cringy it almost turned comedy - until you remembered that they were actually trying to act scared of the bony creature outside the cabin.

A horrorible movie

Warning: Spoilers
Watched this movie with my friends, it is bad to say the least. Nothing of substance happens. All the characters choices are really dumb. Only 2 deaths in the whole movie, and one of them was a guy we barely got to see. If you want to watch this movie you should probably look up sounding on google. You will have just a good of a time watching this movie.

The acting was good. Some of the scenes could have transitioned more smoothly and the quality could have been a lot better. The part where she kills whatever the hell it is that's chasing them was a little unrealistic but it's okay. I'm guessing this is their first production anyway so thumbs up.

Very boring
miss_toucan20 March 2022
You don't need a big budget for special effects and monsters to make a good horror movie, but you do need to create the right atmosphere and build up the suspense. This movie did not do that at all. It takes 53 minutes for anything to happen, and frankly those first 53 minutes were a real snooze.

By the time something did actually happen, I didn't really care anymore.

I could overlook the unconvincing acting and constant attempt to create tension between characters over nothing if it at least had an interesting story. It did not offer anything unique or original though.

Oh it blows!

Absolute garbage. Touted as a modern Evil Dead, it has none of the talent or appeal.

A group of teens go to a cabin and some die. You never see the "creature", just flashes of an animal skull. All the characters are hideously annoying, they all argue and shout. It makes no sense and the main character drives off at the end, leaving her "friends" and dead brother behind. A crowd-funded film, that investors should be punished for contributing to.

LOL!!

I actually started laughing after one point. All the acting is pathetic but the guy who plays the brother wins all. If you wanna see a very bad student film, then this is for you! If you wanna save 2hrs, watch something else.

Horrible
arfdawg-112 April 2022
The acting isnt the worst, even tho it's not good. The real problem is Dionne who has no talent for the making of a horror movie.

It's poorly written and horribly directed. My girlfriend and I were asking "when does something happen" a full 60 minutes into this movie.

Don't bother, and ignore the phony glowing reviews. I warn you -- this is abject GARBAGE. On the other hand, if you like a horror movie where the characters talk and talk and talk endlessly about nothing, and nothing happens, then this bore-fest is for you. Beware the Fake Glowing Reviews -- This Movie Bah-Lows.

Hard Pass

Warning: Spoilers
Friends go off to a nice secluded cabin to spend Christmas together but there is a monster lurking nearby.

It's pretty awful. The acting is bad, the script and the story leave a lot to be desired and the "monster", well, if you've ever seen a buck deer skull in a western movie, you've met this monster. Just so awful it becomes funny.

Lol, lol

This film is hilarious. I laughed from the opening credits to the forced laughter in the store when the thre girls buy a packet of crisps each.

Absolutely awful acting if that's what you can call it. Zero atmosphere and a story that has been done a million times before. This has to be a complete rip off of Cold Prey 2006 Norwegian movie. That was dire as well however this is worse.

Best of indie horror and holiday horror
mntffkzhz16 March 2022
If Ti west made evil dead, youd get something like this flick. Great slow burn horror with cool imagery and witty dialogue. Usually the dialogue in an indie film is bland but theres some great stuff in here, like the convenience store scene and the bathtub scene.

The pacing of this film is quite unique, dont go expecting a blood bath.

Also, i can now add this movie to my ongoing list of films with stop motion skeletons.

Highly original
fluffchop6 October 2022
The monster made me laugh. The movie isn't a typical horror. The characters aren't acting stupidly, there's no nudity. It's missing those elements which would make for a much better film. They spend a long time building to something with lots of dialog and actions which amount to nothing. The characters aren't very likeable at all. The low scores are pretty funny because it's nothing like that bad. It's watchable and reasonably entertaining. It would be much better if they had the serious partying scene, the nudity scene, the blood and gore scene, and all of that is lacking. There's some mild drinking and some mild sex but it's really nothing to hold one's interest. The monster is the lowest budget thing ever and doesn't look like it could attack anything because it looks like it's just bones.

Really a gem
petipetan16 March 2022
There's some truly impressive characterization at play here with the writing, directing, and performances combining to make a really compelling whole. The cinematography and editing pull it all together in a lovely way that drew me in and kept surprising me. Also frankly I love to see a film that knows when to show (or not show) what's haunting the characters when that seems to be pretty rare nowadays (there's also beautiful effects work, which is a real treat for practicals buffs). I felt compelled to hop on and give this a review because no, it's definitely not a typical slasher film, and yes, turning those expectations on their head is exactly what makes it so exciting, especially for a first feature in my opinion. If you're looking for something different that will stick with you after watching, these are filmmakers to keep an eye on.

Brilliantly crafted creature feature
TurnerRocks17 March 2022
I don't know what to expect with most modern horror movies that try to capture the spirit of the classics, but I was really surprised by what Copland and her team cooked up here.

I was frequently reminded of Stephen King's biggest strength, which is writing believable characters with rich backstories, and I felt that was definitely the strongest point of Copland's film. I really got the histories of these characters and found myself caring about them. Not a simple feat for a horror movie.

The monster reminded me of Jaws in the don't show it as much as possible aspect. The filmmakers knew how to keep is scary by focusing on using sound and acting instead of trying to overload us with gore and special effects. It feels like a really classic indie movie and I can't wait to see more from Copland since she seems to really understand how to make a horror movie.

The Next Evil Dead
brittanygraves-7493617 March 2022
There are so few modern horror movies that have both a love for the genre and a desire to do something new with it but writer-director Dionne Copland delivers a film that excels in every regard. From the fantastic performances that get you to ACTUALLY care about the characters to the amazingly crafted horror set-pieces, Cold Wind Blowing is the REAL DEAL.

I don't make comparisons to a classic like The Evil Dead lightly, but the way that Copland really reinvents the wheel here with her storytelling and the way that she decides to present the horror is nothing short of amazing. There is one scene involving a closed door that is probably one of my favourite horror movie moments from recent memory.

This is female-driven horror at its finest, with a beautiful story about slaying one's own demons and with a few queer undertones sprinkled throughout. I can't think of anything better in recent memory that truly felt like the NEXT THING in horror, but Copland does more than enough to prove that she is one of THE most exciting filmmakers starting in horror today.

This film will not be for everyone, but if you "get it" and ACTUALLY like horror movies for the right reasons then you will find A LOT to love about Cold Wind Blowing.

Super horror
try_lb19 March 2022
Loved how the characters were revealed and how they all unraveled so individually when they were under fear. The creepy mimicking of others voices by the creature was most unsettling and stayed with you after the movie ended. Excellent ending.
