The “Fallout” TV series at Amazon has cast Walton Goggins in a lead role, Variety has learned.
Like the video games on which it is based, the “Fallout” series is set in a world where the future envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s explodes upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077.
Amazon had no comment on the character Goggins will play in the series. According to sources, he will play a character based on the ghouls from the games. Ghouls are humans who have been horribly disfigured due to exposure to radiation, but are also largely immune to radiation and nuclear fallout as a result.
Goggins is a highly versatile actor known for playing a wide range of roles. He received an Emmy nomination for playing the character Boyd Crowder in the hit series “Justified.” He also starred in the FX series “The Shield” as Det. Shane Vendrell and...

In a superhero-dominated film culture ruled by Marvel and DC, one company is banking on an old, familiar name to shake up the duopoly. Indie film/TV production company Amasia Entertainment announced Wednesday that it secured motion picture rights to classic character The Green Hornet.
First created in 1938 by George W Trendle and later a staple in radio serials, the character spawned multiple big-screen adaptations in the early ’40s before surfacing as a cult hit TV series. Airing just one season from 1966-67, “The Green Hornet” starred Van Williams as Britt Reid, the newspaper publisher who by night fought crime as the masked vigilante that gave the show its title. In one of his early American roles, Bruce Lee played the role of Kato, Britt’s trusted partner.

Amasia’s co-founders Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo made the announcement Wednesday. Helfant is a veteran Hollywood executive who was president and chief operating officer of Marvel Studios for several years starting in 2005.
“When I was a kid, ‘The Green Hornet’ was one of my favorite television series,” he said. “I loved everything about it – The Green Hornet, Kato, and of course, the Black Beauty. They were the coolest! It was personally painful to leave them all behind when I left Dimension. So I tried to option the property again at Marvel before it went over to Sony, and then again in 2017 before the rights landed at Paramount.”

Paranormal investigations have long enjoyed their fair share of spins onscreen, from horror franchises like the wildly popular “Paranormal Activity” series to small screen reality TV takes like “Ghost Hunters” and “Paranormal State,” but recent iterations of the horror subgenre haven’t always utilized such stories as dramatic deep dives into the existence of the living. Paul Harrill’s Sundance premiere “Light From Light” offers a deep-thinking corrective and a push away from jump-scare-heavy entries, using timeless horror concepts like “ghosts!” and “haunted houses!” and “paranormal inspections!” to explore other facets of the human condition. In short, the most fascinating beings in the film aren’t necessarily the dead ones.
Per the film’s official synopsis: “Gifted with sometimes-prophetic dreams and a lifelong interest in the paranormal, Sheila (Marin Ireland) is asked to investigate a potential haunting at a Tennessee farmhouse. It’s there she meets Richard (Jim Gaffigan), a...

Exclusive: The CW and Warner Bros Television have made a deal to develop Dark Shadows: Reincarnation, an hourlong gothic horror drama based on the 1966 Dan Curtis-created cult classic TV soap opera. The pilot will be written by Mark B. Perry, whose credits include Revenge, Ghost Whisperer and Brothers & Sisters. He will be exec producer along with Amasia Entertainment’s Michael Helfant, Bradley Gallo and Tracy Mercer, along with Tracy Curtis and Cathy Curtis.
The re-imagined show will be a modern-day continuation of the strange, terrifying, and sexy saga of the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine — a mysterious, influential, publicity-shy group hiding a ghastly secret: For the past 400 years, they’ve lived under a curse that bedevils their blue blood with every imaginable supernatural creature and horror. For a change, a narrative feature rather than a documentary opened best among this week’s new releases. “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” about a challenged young man and his dreams of wrestling glory, opened to multiple cities to very encouraging initial results and a real shot of crossover success.
The tough-minded “One Child Nation” also had a promising start at two theaters, one on each coast. Breakout success “The Farewell” grossed over $2 million with its expansion to 700 theaters, but that’s less than it made last weekend. Still, this very successful film already has passed $10 million.

To celebrate the release of the thriller Them That Follow, DaniElle DeLaite sat down with cast members Walton Goggins, Jim Gaffigan, Alice Englert, Lewis Pullman, Thomas Mann, and writers/director duo Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage.
The movie gives an amazing insight into the unique world of an isolated, snake handling, Pentecostal religious community, the likes of which continue to exist today in the Appalachian mountains of the USA. These worshippers handle deadly, venomous snakes to prove themselves before God.
Through a love triangle among three young people the personal agonies of their lives is shown as they struggle with the demands of the church and the expectations of their families while painfully dealing with their own emerging identities and values. Many viewers will be able to relate to this.

The weekend has had a sizable crowd of specialty newcomers, though as summer begins its sunset, it appears some audiences are going beyond the big studio brouhaha. Sundance psycho-thriller Luce lead the pack with a $132,916 start in five locations, grabbing a $26,583 per theater average for the Neon release in the three-day estimate, while not far behind was IFC Films’ The Nightingale for $40,082 in two theaters and a $20,041 PTA. A24’s The Farewell, meanwhile, landed comfortably in the top 10 this weekend, while being in far fewer theaters than the studio titles. The Sundance title by Lulu Wang grossed over $2.4M in 409 theaters, averaging a robust $5,939 for the Mandarin and English-language feature. It has cumed over $6.84M.
Neon reported Sunday that writer-director Julius Onah’s Luce’s exits showed “broad appeal,” with a 28% African-American audience and about a 50/50 split between crowds over and under 40 years-old. Moviegoers were about 59% female and 41% male.

The Fast & Furious franchise has yet again delivered a #1 opener with the franchise spin-off Hobbs & Shaw taking the top spot at this weekend's box office. Overall the weekend showed improvement over the same weekend last year for the third straight week in a row and on top of Hobbs & Shaw, continued strong performances from The Lion King, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the platform release of A24's The Farewell helped what has been a bit of a late summer surge at the domestic box office. Universal's Hobbs & Shaw debuted in 4,253 theaters this weekend (the second widest release in the Fast & Furious franchise) with an estimated $60.8 million, which is right in line with the studio's pre-weekend expectations. The $200 million production also received an "A-" CinemaScore from opening day audiences and currently holds a strong, 90% audience score on RottenTomatoes. Of that audience, 58% were male, which lines up with...

What’s the cliched, glib version of a cult set in the Appalachian Mountains? If it’s crazy preachers, brainwashed followers, sinister rituals, and snakes, you’ve come to the right place: all those familiar chestnuts are on display in Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage‘s feature debut, “Them That Follow.” But give them credit nonetheless, they take this foreboding and forbidden texture and turn it into something that’s also terrifying.

In 2014, Kentucky pastor Jamie Coots died after being bit by a rattlesnake during a service at his tiny Middlesboro, Ky church. It was the tenth time the Pentecostal leader had been bitten during his tenure as a snake handler, and the last time he refused medical attention for a poisonous bite. At the time, his son Cody told the local CBS affiliate, “When it’s your time to go, it’s just your time to go.” Such is the faith that guides the kind of Pentecostal snake handlers who populate Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage’s “Them That Follow,” devotees of Christ who interpret the King James Bible to literally encourage them to “take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them.”
Deep in Appalachia, the decades-old practice continues in a handful of churches, places just like the one where Coots received his final bite.

Regardless of the premise behind the age-old foundation we still call the American Dream, not all are afforded the same prosperous outcome. Only the most powerful are granted the benefit of the doubt — the luxury to fall, reset and ultimately thrive. For the marginalized forced to kick-start their endeavors far behind on the racetrack, it’s a different story. How the intersection of race, gender and class shapes and oftentimes unjustly dictates one’s journey is eloquently examined in “Luce,” the third feature from Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah.
This cumulatively unnerving psychodrama, where everyone harbors a deep secret, couldn’t be more relevant to today’s America of Black Lives Matter, #MeToo and a severely biased allocation of power. But co-writers Onah and Jc Lee (who wrote the stage play on which the film is based) take matters a step further. Fresh from her Oscar win for The Favourite, the indisputably great Olivia Colman shows up in Them That Follow as a snake-handling Pentecostal congregationalist in the Appalachian mountains who finds her faith sorely tested. You might want to read that sentence twice since this movie does not follow any traditional paths. But the faith it examines, in practice for more than 100 years, is considered a religious freedom by those even in areas that seek to outlaw it. Writer-directors Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage do not come from a Pentecostal church background,...

Them That Follow is a classic tale of girl meets boy, girl and boy fall in love, girl must defy her snake-obsessed pastor father to marry boy and potentially get people killed in the process . . . Ok, so, maybe it's not your average story.
The upcoming thriller from directors Britt Poulton and Dan Madison Savage, due out on Aug. 2, takes place deep in Appalachia, where Pastor Lemuel Childs (Walton Goggins) leads an isolated community of "serpent handlers," a Pentecostal sect who pick up and hold venomous snakes as a way to prove to God that they are worthy. Childs' daughter, Mara (Alice Englert), has been promised to another boy in town, but her secret romance with a man outside of their community threatens to tear her world apart.
