• Jefferson Pierce : [Khalil is walking down the hallway, Jefferson Pierce sees him and calls out to him]  Khalil!

  Khalil : Hey Mr. Pierce. Oh, I shaved a tenth off my split today. I think it was that new weight routine you suggested.

  Jefferson Pierce : Oh great to hear it.

  [Pierce puts his hand on Khalil's chest and stops him from walking away] 

  Jefferson Pierce : You know that my, uh, concern for you extends beyond the track, right?

  Khalil : Uh yeah. Yes, sir, of course.

  Jefferson Pierce : Good, good. How do you shower?

  Khalil : [Khalil stunned, looks away, then back at Pierce]  Uh, umm... uh... Mr. P. I, umm...

  Jefferson Pierce : You got a bar of soap...

  [Pierce cups his hand like he has a bar of soap in it, then motions to Khalil to answer] 

  Khalil : Well... well, I wash. Use shampoo... Rinse...

  Jefferson Pierce : [Pierce nods his head]  Okay. Then, when you get out of the shower?

  Khalil : Okay, well I don't have a mat, so i step on to my towel to dry my feet.

  Jefferson Pierce : [sighs deeply]  So... feet

  [Pierce points to his feet] 

  Jefferson Pierce : Legs.

  [Pierce points to his legs] 

  Jefferson Pierce : Et cetera.

  [hands moves to his sides] 

  Khalil : Yup. Yeah, that... that sounds about right.

  Jefferson Pierce : Hmmm. So the young man who wants to have sex with my daughter, who spends much of his time in locker rooms, dries his fungus-covered feet, before he dries his important parts...

  Khalil : Sir, I...

  [Khalil clearly embarrassed] 

  Jefferson Pierce : No, no I'm asking, do you want to give my daughter athlete's foot... in places where athlete's feet shouldn't be?

  Khalil : [Puzzled look on his face]  Uh, I don't think so...?

  Jefferson Pierce : I don't think so? Son, the answer is no! And if you don't know that, then maybe you and Jennifer need to slow down.

  [Khalil stands frozen with an embarrassed look on his face, Pierce then turns around and walks away with a smile on his face] 

• Inspector Henderson : [as Rev. Holt comes down from the pulpit to go to his office]  Look, Reverend, I don't support paying the 100 for anything, but I get that's where we are right now, and I know the police have to do a lot...

  Reverend Jeremiah Holt : Amen, amen, amen, amen, brother. You see, we wouldn't have to pay for protection if half the police department didn't have their hands in the 100's pockets.

  Inspector Henderson : Well, I'm not in the 100's pockets, and good work is being done. Now, we may not get there in the moment, but we will get there in the end.

  Reverend Jeremiah Holt : See, we're gonna put our trust in the power of the Almighty, because we damn sure can't put our trust in you. Got that?

  Jefferson Pierce : Come on, that's not true, Jeremiah. You know it.

  [in Rev. Holt's office] 

  Reverend Jeremiah Holt : What, those crooked cops send you down here like the overseer? Put the slaves in check? Huh?

  Inspector Henderson : While you're up in the pulpit with a $25,000 watch on, wiping your forehead with a silk handkerchief, I'm scraping young Black men's bodies off the concrete. The street IS my pulpit.

  Jefferson Pierce : [holds them apart]  Billy, okay...

  Inspector Henderson : I wear work shoes. What kind of shoes you wear... Reverend?

• Lynn Pierce : Anissa's not coming.

  Jennifer Pierce : Family dinner's optional?

  Jefferson Pierce : Uh, not for you. You're still our little girl.

  Jennifer Pierce : Well, Anissa not coming sucks.

  Jennifer Pierce : Sorry. This turn of events is dispiriting as I wished for her support during this repast.
