Lead actor David Hewlett convinced director Aharon Rabinowitz to play the roll opposite him, despite his never having acted before. Rabinowitz was worried he might not be able to pull it off, but Hewlett felt he was the perfect straight man for Hewlogram's overly enthusiastic personality.
Director Aharon Rabinowitz has stated many times that David Hewlett is easily one of the nicest people he has ever worked with.
Two of the actors in the film have been made into action figures from other projects: David Hewlett (as Dr. McKay from Stargate Atlantis) and Chuck Wagner (as the title character from Automan).
David Hewlett and Aharon Rabinowitz (the director) met on twitter, when Hewlett reached out to say he enjoyed one of Rabinowitz's previous films (Old/New, narrated by Patton Oswalt).
