Having people stand there watching for 10 seconds like they can't do anything, despite being trained for it while their friends are in a fight or could come close to dying, does not work for me. Even if it was for dramatic effect, it was poorly staged.

Plot lines are getting lazier
jp757012 June 2018
This episode makes reference to terraforming as the "Genesis effect" - something with can wipe out all life on a planet in favor of creating a new Krypton. If that sounds familiar, it is basically the plot from "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" (minus the references to Krypton, of course). The writers didn't even try to change the name - Genesis.
If the story lines are going to lift directly from other movies, maybe they cold at least try to be a little more creative and come up with a new name! Oh, and every summary seems to want to call the villain "Serena", when in fact her name is "Selena". What a shame the efforts on this series have continued to slide.
