Moving. For $1200...nicely done.

The transition of Mara from cold and deliberate in her daily schedule, to waking up two minutes late, to giving in to her fears, and finally facing and conquering them, was captivating. I could not tear my eyes off her face. While ostensibly a sci fi short, it's more a deeply personal drama made in any modern urban setting. I'm not a drama lover, and this took me about 1/5 of the film to settle in. It's a movie that gets better right until the end. For once, I was glad to have "loose ends" I could tie up myself.

Melancholy

A beautiful young woman works on genetic engineering. She does everything from home and seldom leaves her house. Apparently, there was a tragedy in her life that has made it so she can't move on. She is very perceptive and quite dismissive, but something eats at her. This is a sad and beautiful portrayal of loss. Excellent work.

about happiness

...or about the sense of life. or solitude. or hope. or refuge in fantasy. for not be alone. a film impressive for the simplicity of realism. for the minimalism of space, acting and story. a woman looking for solutions for the others. the news from an old friend. and the fundamental change of her life. nothing complicated. but profound moving. because it could have crumbs from the life of viewer. personal experiences and fears and lost and the illusion to meet again the past. and the fragile ball of fiction. and it is enough. for define a real special short film.

Powerful

Powerful. For anyone whose had to face the loss of their future child, this rings true on so many levels.

Also, the phone call may sound a bit contrived, but it is a truth for many couples and failed relationships. That need to face grief together. That alien feeling when your partner suppresses grief.

These Dust Collection shorts are impressive. I was sceptical at first with the android caretaker short story which was a bit of a miss, but they are winning me over by digging deep into confronting us with fears we don't face or admit.

Hard to watch, but necessary. And I hope they dont stop surprising.
