Sex & Nudity

  • Different couples are shown to be in a sexual relationship and lying in the same bed, but everything below their shoulders is covered by a blanket. No sex or nudity is shown on screen.
  • A woman says that she had been raped years before the events of the series takes place.
  • No Nudity!
  • The "no nudity" comments are not completely accurate. In episode 1, a couple is under the sheets, apparently naked, talking. Initially, little is shown, though there are brief shots showing a lot of upper-breast of the female. Then briefly one of her nipples is seen. On American broadcast TV (PBS), you can tell that it it is blurred-out, though presumably it is not blurred where less-strict rules are in place.

Violence & Gore

  • People are shot and some blood can be seen when they are hit.
  • Several injured people with dirty bandages can bee seen in the background.
  • War violence with explosions and gun shots.
  • Men and women are executed by firing squad.

Profanity

  • Words like F*** and bollocks are said many times, and several slurs aimed at the mentally ill are said to and about soldiers with ptsd.
  • I watched this on PBS and they cut the F-WORDS and lots of other profanities. I saw an episode on DVD and was surprised, sadly, about the profanities.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Many characters smoke cigarettes.
  • Some people in the background drink alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • We see a person who has been hanged, with some bloodstains on their face implying that they may have been tortured before their execution.
  • Some scenes deal with veterans having anxiety attacks from ptsd.
