The title of the episode is a wrestling reference. A "potato" is hitting your opponent for real with a hard punch. A "receipt" is hitting your opponent back with a hard punch after he/she gave you a potato.
This episode, the final episode of Season 2, must take place in late 1985 or early January 1986 since the first episode of Season 3 takes place in Las Vegas the day Challenger exploded (January 26, 1986). At the end of this episode the song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is playing as the bus leaves for Vegas. That song however was not released by Starship until January 30, 1987 and was included on their 1987 album "No Protection".
Alison Brie (Ruth Wilder) & Rich Sommer (Mark Eagan) also worked together on Mad Men (2007) as Trudy Campbell & Harry Crane respectively.
