Gorgeous Film That Leaves You Wanting More
ceeduse17 February 2020
Beautifully shot, edited, and scored; Rob O'Neill and his team create a cavernous world that spans millennia in less than 20 minutes, with attention to detail in the pacing, color, and props. But it is a short, so I was left with so many questions about where the maps came from, who the witch is, how our hero was tasked with such an epic journey, and of course, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!

It's a daring prologue to an unknown adventure; bring on the next chapter!

Suspenseful, suggestive and strangely beautiful

This is a thrilling fantasy short. Beautiful to watch and with a mysterious narrative and slightly spooky ambience that follows a rugged adventurer on his quest. What begins as an introspective, rather quiet window into this man's obsession, builds to an unexpected climax. Loved the talented cast, the imaginative score, the evocative cinematography and the strangely timeless world of The Ballad of John St. George.

Indiana Jones meets the Dragon Witch

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing this movie at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, where it rightfully won the Best Action Short Film award.

The quality of filmmaking is superb, and the mysterious element of this adventure story is present all throughout. Like the best shorts usually do, they go by too quickly and leave you wanting for a continuation of the story you just experienced, which was definitely the case here.

Bonus side: besides the recognizable talent on screen, the music and the editing are on feature level, and very much helped this gem stand out further from the other shorts of the night.

Can't wait to see what is next for this team of filmmakers.

inspired sketch

Delightful seems the fair definition about this film who, from image to structure of story, from music to the inspired craft of tension, from details - the map, the photo, the book, the wounded woman - proposes not only wise crumbs of western and Medieval history, atmosphere of fairy tale and a precious end , but fair way to feel the story as a sort of experience.

Few scenes are more than great.

And the resurrection , honest and smart, of old familiar themes is one of inspired good point of a film who offers the experience to see the moves of an artist creating his drawing, with passion, tenacity, science of detail and courage to tell the right story.
