Very refreshing episode

Family Guy's cynical views on shows from the 1950s to the 1970s are spot on. This is why I love this show, cynical, edgy, smart and over the top awesome.

BRILLIANT!

THIS is why we love The Family Guy. The parody of "HAIR" (1979), and the song "Let My Son Die" made me nostalgic about the movie. This was a fantastic episode.

Is "Through the Years" secretly a precursor to WandaVision?

Not because Disney bought Marvel and Fox, but just because of the set-ups they both share. I did not think much of Family Guy Through the Years, but I was interested in the idea, and parts of the execution, for Family Guy parodying situation comedies and societal issues from 3 earlier decades. Family Guy Through the Years made fun of sexism and racial segregation in the 1950s, long cars and teens doing drugs at Woodstock in the 1960s, and the Vietnam war and disco in the 1970s - which reminds me, Meg Griffin's voice actress actually spent 7 years as a main character in That 70's Show, a 1990s sitcom that takes place in the 1970s starting in 1976, a few years after the Vietnam War.

It felt kind of strange to make each segment take place in a different decade and writing very short stories instead of making a whole episode for each decade that we may have to watch each week, but it helped to not occupy too much of Season 16 when it clearly has other storylines to write. I am just disappointed that we do not have a Part 2 for the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s in a later season. In Wanda Maximoff Through the Years, we got one episode each for all 6 decades! The funniest part of Family Guy Through the Years, in my opinion, is the surprise ending joke going back to the museum of television and radio. Just wait and see!

Family Guy Through the Years

Warning: Spoilers
There was about 5 minutes of fresh material they had that they tried to stretch out over a 22 minute episode.

The Raisin Bran bit was good, but this should have been a cutaway or two during an episode, not a whole one. And they didn't even really capture what shows in the 50's, 60's or 70's were like.

Surprised at the reaction to this episode

I have to say that to me this is one of if not the best episode put together by the makers of FG... Originality bursting out all over the place.and the black and white, sixties, seventies colouring and ambience was a lovely homage to the culture, general thought patterns and movies of those eras.

Two of the funniest executed bits of humour the show has come up with on one episode.the Fortunate Son bit.and the FG interpretation of Hair.

Last mentioned may very well be the best musical bit the show has done.

I have fond memories of Hair the Musical and interpreting it this way gives a new refreshing take on what was a serious part of the movie.

It will never be the same.

(Okay P. S.: season 6 ep 5's "They never will be missed" stewie musical bit when he's president of the world is still the unassailable best on this show)

Worst Episode Of The Season!

This episode has no thought. The jokes don't make any sense. Some jokes are to long. This season has been terrible, but this episode was the cream of the crap!

Not great, but... yeah but what

Personally, I didn't like this episode. Beginning was kind of weird, jokes were not funny, satire as we can call that was on so low level, for example; did anybody laughed while watching that long 1950 ad on TV about rasin something? It was too long, way to long. In case of 1969 part, there were no jokes at all! The only good part was about Quagmire and Vietnam, it was interesting, catchy, I really wanted to see what will happen next, and that's why i rated it 4/10.

Worst episode ever.
namikazedante23 April 2018
Oh my god, I have never been this bored. First part was just boring and no jokes at all. And the 1969, just lame jokes to drag out the time. Only good joke was the fortunate son aka Vietnam. But to waste 15 minutes to get to that joke? Not worth it. They should've just made the whole episode about Vietnam and Quagmire.

And nope such a disappointment to see this episode, one of the worst episode they done and last weeks that were the best. Shame on you Seth !

Sometimes just gutter garbage!
rsvp32130 April 2018
Peter: "Lets head down to the airfield and give our soldiers the respect they deserve!" ...Griffin family all spit in the face of Quagmire while he's in uniform.

The respect they *deserve*?!

Coupled with the pathetic stolen valor episode two weeks ago ("Veteran Guy"), I'm wondering if there's a message of personal contempt for the US military by the writers...?

Some episodes are genius, these two are disrespectful and pathetic.

I hate when black-white screen shows up. It is just impossible to watch. Just annoys me.

An over-stretched premise
RogerBorg2 January 2022
Even at 20 minutes, there wasn't enough material to fill it, and nothing particularly fresh about the period observations.

The obligatory musical number is mundane and plodding, and you've seen most of this done before elsewhere, and at least as well.

The sharpest writing is in the book-ending, but this sets up false hopes for the rest of the episode. It's most interesting for being a predictor of Wandavision.
