Trail Ends Here
ThomasDrufke11 February 2019
If there's one thing I have gathered from the past few episodes, it's that Cailey Fleming is a total bada** in this show. It is so flipping hard for movies and television shows to find serviceable young actors that aren't annoying, but Fleming seems to be the perfect fit for the young Judith Grimes, who is essentially the new lead of the show.

Dealing with the aftermath of last episode's shocker, 'Adaptation' was a slow building, but very solid episode that saw Negan travel beyond the walls of Alexandria only to find nothing, Hilltop grieving over the loss of Jesus and dealing with a Whisperer held captive named Lydia, and the introduction of Alpha. I'm not sure how long it can possibly be this way before it wears off, but this show is genuinely creepy right now. When the walkers stopped walking and surrounded Alden and Luke, it was legitimately disturbing. I guess if you're going to introduce a new villain, that was the way to do it.

In all, this was a nice way to open up the second half of Season 9, which has been the most surprising season thus far. I'm all in this year.

Season 9 continues to be great and fresh
GANdeK15 February 2019
Season 9 is continuing to be great and making Walking Dead worthwhile to watch again compared to the horrid drag of seasons that were 7 and 8. All the stuff with the Whisperers is being paced and done well. Negan for me makes this Episode his story is just beginning and I can't wait to see how he will assist in taking down the Whisperers.

The New Threat
claudio_carvalho16 February 2019
Daryl, Michonne and their group capture one "Whisperer" and discover a secret of the new threat. They bring the prisoner and the body of Jesus to Hilltop. Meanwhile Negan flees from his cell and is surprised by Judith while living Alexandria. However she lets him go and he finds how the world is outside the place where he has been locked.

"Adaptation" is a reasonable return of "The Walking Dead". The segment with the Whisperers is better than the disappointing segment with Negan and Judith. The conclusion is promising. My vote is seven.

The second best mid season premiere
davisond-7038110 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode will be a slow for some people but it's also great at the same time, theirs mainly only two plot lines during the episode and their both satisfying to watch.

Negan leaves Alexandria after a confrontation with Judith who says she'll shoot if she sees him again, while he's outside of the walls he gets another leather jacket and revisits a now run down sanctuary where the only things that remain are cobwebs and dead lieutenants wandering in the courtyard, he also comes across a pack of wild dogs and eventually Judith who as promised, tries to shoot him.

Now theirs the main plot, Daryl and the crew continue to slaughter the horrifying whisperers while trapped in the graveyard while trying to make it back to Hilltop in one piece, they come across more of the foes but Daryl has strategy and Michonne has katana skills so this problem is solved quickly. They take one as prisoner and drag her back to hilltop for questioning but she doesn't want to speak so Daryl let's Henry talk to her from his cell.

The third plot line that is smaller than others ends on an awesome cliffhanger, Alden and Luke go searching for Daryl and the crew who haven't been gone for over a day and get lured into the woods by arrows not realising a trap is under way, before long they get surrounded by the dead and a walker wielding a double barrelled shotgun.

Trail Doesn't End Here

The Walking Dead starts off the second half of the ninth season with a promising beginning. The action was tense with good cinematography and a noticeably improved score. On the other hand, the drama was well written and appropriately paced. The Walking Dead has revived itself with the first half of season nine. "Adaptation" is a good indication that the second half will continue this trend.

Good episode, I'm liking the way they're introducing whisperers, they're definitely doing great. The development of Negan in this episode was very interesting.

Still have some fun

Warning: Spoilers
We all know that the show is dead, even though they keep trying hard to get it back But let's hope..

The Whisperers introduction was extremely epic in -Revolution- and especially the first time we hear them whispering when they were chasing Eugene and Rosita, i acually freaked out and i think everybody did ! but the thing is, the show always slows down fastly after a very good action.

Adaptation gave us an interesting development to a girl's charachter of The Whisperers, what makes us nervous now is that they're absolutely searching for her, so maybe things are not gonna be so boring.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos11 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Dead Jesus is taken out of the cemetery and back to Hilltop where everyone puts a nail in his coffin to make sure he doesnt resurrect as a Walker or anything else. This creates a leadership void which by default lands on Tara as Mags is gone (dont ask the writers prolly dont even know why yet).

Negan stretches his legs and auditions a shovel for Lucille 2.0 only to be stopped by Judith, the first of the post-ZA generation, who is way too sophisticated for her young age. They negotiate and Negan leaves. The dynamic which has developed between the two is quite compelling given the history Negan had with Rick and Coral.

One would almost hope that being incarcerated 6 years has changed Negan like a drug addict or an alcoholic needing to hit rock bottom before actual change in behavior can organically occur. We will have to stay tuned to see who Negan actually is now. BTW, shouldn't he have at least a faint scar across his throat?

So recently paroled Negan takes a road trip to his old stomping grounds the Sanctuary factory returning home like a prodigal son. It seems sadly baron and desolate, bereft of life other than a handful of reanimated Saviors which Negan dispatches in an effort to regain some of his lost mojo.

Negan finds a new leather jacket which of course is his size and color, wins a dog fight and grabs a motorcycle, prolly borrowed from Riding With Norman. He then returns to Alexandria where Judith partially keeps her promise of shooting him on sight if he returns by shooting at the motorcycle but not hitting him. Negan has apparently accepted the fact he is best off staying in his cell.

Daryl and Michonne dispatch a small group of Whisperers and take a young girl as hostage providing a new love interest for Henry who instead of listening to and learning from potential mentor Daryl, does the exact opposite. After Gitmo tactics fail Daryl learns absolutely nothing about their newest antagonists other than they kill other people. No kidding.

Eugene professes his love for Rosita which immediately makes her puke, that and the fact that she is prego with Siddig's kid while dating Gabe. Whatever.

Alden, Enid's new boy toy and eager to help Professor Luke go searching in the woods and find far more than they bargained for as they become surrounded by Whisperers.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but the return of TWD felt a little lacking.

Great mid-season premiere and the start of The Whisperers story arc
Holt34411 February 2019
Second half of season 9 is looking great so far with the start of The Whisperers War arc from the graphic novel. We get introduced to Lydia, a character I really like in the comics but the whole prison sequence didn't set right with me as Carl is supposed to be there, it doesn't make any sense that Henry is there but we'll have to wait and see. Overall a great episode which is directed by Greg Nicotero, he knows the characters and story arcs and has the knowledge to do a fantastic job.

The story arc with Negan which is fantastically played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, bringing something new to the character and making him likeable to everyone. He took Jesus' place on my list of favorite characters as he sadly met his demise in last episode in a brutal but epic way. Angela Kang is doing a great job at being the show runner, bringing justice to the source material and trying to patch up the broken pieces left by Scott Gimple.

Enjoyed Negan's storyline but having a hard time with the whisperers
norm197711 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to like this episode as I have been fully invested in the entire series. I feel that the episode is flawed and particularly with the strategy and way of life of the whisperers. I hope we get further clarity because I find it hardly effective to travel slowly in packs and make yourself vulnerable to your "enemies". For example, the largest hole in the episode is during the bridge scene. Why would any whisperers allow themselves to be easy targets? They are basically walking to their death by allowing themselves to be surrounded in a contained tunnel...especially what we may discover is the daughter of the leader of the group. You cannot say that she planned it because there is no way of knowing if Darryl or Michonne would kill her first and not allow her to be captured. Sigh....

Speaking of Michonne, she is becoming one dimensional and needs to break out of her shell and monotone. She needs to have more layers and they are dragging her depression too far...in similar fashion when Rick went through a stage.

Negan's journey outside Alexandria and his inevitable return was certainly the most enjoyable part of the episode but the mid season premiere did not come firing out like I hoped it would.

The walking dead back from the dead
mcsharpe-1351512 February 2019
This seasons as a whole is better then season 7 and 8 combined. Real character depth, feeling the characters emotion, the suspense, not knowing what will happen, anticipating what's next, the horror, the drama, THIS IS THE WALKING DEAD THAT I MISSED! Angela Lang has really breathed new life into this show and I am really looking forward to what's next and the whisper story arc.

Not Great, but not Terrible
spyder-2046013 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Overall quality of season 9 is way higher than it was in 7 or 8, but the show does feel like it's still lacking something. Despite his misuse in earlier seasons, it looks like Negan is the best thing about the show right now. And it looks like there's real potential in seeing what how his story evolves. And the relationship with him and Judith has potential. But I wish they would write her as an actual child. Also, was she such a good shot that she can hit the bike without hitting Negan? Or was she trying to kill him? And why is she left alone so much to roam wherever she wants? Not a big fan of the Whisperers so far either. The zombies have been next to zero threat for many seasons now. And we're supposed to believe that a smart strategy is to mix within that useless and slow group and then do a surprise attack? Possibly a good strategy against 1 or 2 people. But against a bigger force or against someone with a crossbow or guns, that seems unbelievably stupid. And you can't pull out a gun of your own in that group, because then the zombies would attack you. I'm also sensing too much of the writers simply moving people around instead of conflicts developing naturally from the characters. Not finding too many of the characters all that interesting now either. For what it's worth, I recently watched the Korean zombie series 'Kingdom' which was excellent. Recommended.

Mixed Feelings this season
umichjal13 February 2019
My general comments on this season:

1. Writing is much better than past seasons. It shows more depth, and less random 'drama' among the characters. I hope they continue weaving individual stories in the broader WD storyline.

2. WD lacks true leaders in some sense. Carol? Yes. Darryl? Yes. Negan? Yes. Beyond that - none. A lot of great supporting characters, but few leaders. Negan needs to take a dominant role - just like in the comics.

3. Judith's character is too old - to fast. It is very unrealistic to have her roaming the countryside, firing a revolver, and swearing. Regardless of the current state of the world, it does not feel right.

Hopefully for the remainder of the season.

Home sweet home
DVD_Connoisseur11 February 2019
Following the shocking and unexpected end to Season 9A, the halfway point (or Season 9B) starts with an unusually tanned Negan, freed from his basement cell at last. Interestingly (at least for me), he is now sans bandage. There goes my theory that Negan was hiding a walker bite on his arm and was the saviour of mankind, having a cure pulsing through his veins!

There's a beautiful moment when a nauseas Negan falls to his knees in a clearing, sick after drinking contaminated water from a stream. The realisation hits him that this is the same place that Rick's gang were forced on their knees to watch the demise of two of their friends. The scene is subtle but as hard hitting as Negan's Lucille.

This is a genuinely promising start to the second half of the season. The new baddies, The Whisperers, are genuinely creepy en masse and there's a whole new dynamic to the show following the significant time jump in the earlier episodes of this season.

The young Cailey Fleming shines as Judith Grimes. Her interactions with Negan are what make this episode pop. Negan clearly has deep respect and a feeling of responsibility for Judith following the "death" of Rick.

A Solid Episode, Let Down by Judith Grimes.
Liam301111 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Before I even start my review; it is NOT the actress's fault. It's the writing of Judith that has let her down. I'll get that part out of the way first; Miss "If I see you again, I'll shoot" encounters Negan (completely on her own, mind you) in the middle of a lonely road. No one to protect her but Negan. And maybe that was what they were going for, but even then? Who would just allow a child to go out into the wilderness like that? Poor writing, in my opinion.

It, by this point, is evident that she is just a plot device and nothing else; the character of Judith means nothing to this show. She's just filling the boots Chandler Riggs would have done, but far too soon. Far too soon. The writers are trying to force this "New Carl" onto us as if Carl was never even a thing. But that's just my opinion.

So, mini rant over. What about the episode? Minus the Judith scenes, the episode was really well written. Daryl is likeable again, because of his ruthlessness; Negan has purpose once more, instead of being locked up. Jesus had a good send off. We also learnt more about the Whisperers, if you hadn't read the comics. Seeing Negan in leather once more felt right; and seeing him taking down walker by walker felt absolutely brilliant to see! As well as seeing him return to Sanctuary, gazing upon it's even-more-so ruined state.

Speaking of walkers, though; it's great to see they still remain a threat in the show. Seasons 7 and 8 lacked that kind of threat from them, but it's amazing how Season 9 has (so far) made them feel important again. Keep that up. This show is returning to it's roots and I'm a fan of that.

Overall: this episode was great and would have scored a 9, if the Judith scenes (once more) weren't poorly written. But I've had to dock points on that alone, so I'm giving this episode a 7/10.

Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
That was a really cool episode, it was nice seeing negan out of his cell and walking around.I was getting some Governor vibes when the governor was on his own wandering around after his failed attack on the prison and he went back to woodbury to find it empty and he burns it down. Judith is adorable and innocent, living up to her name little ass kicker. Last but not least Alpha, that was awesome finally seeing her make her appearance, Pulling out that sawed off shotgun was just awesome "trail ends here". This was a really cool mid season premier so i am giving it a 10 because it was awesome and of course to throw off the trolls giving it 1-2.

Warning: Spoilers
The first half of this season was a bit of a mess, but it actually felt a bit refreshing here.

I want Negan back in power, but I don't expect that to happen. There is still a lot to love about the show. Most of the new characters, not so much.

This show should stop now, it's lacklustre and is just a shadow of its former self, I'm so uninterested that this review is last of any compassion I had for this show. Time to put it out if it's (and our) misery.
