Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, the last episodes had been slow, but this is for the big bad things that are going to happen. I'm so excited! We finally saw something of how the whisperers live.

Deep look at the main villains of the season with great drama and suspension
Holt3444 March 2019
We get to see the everyday life of The Whisperers, it's something we never got to see in the graphic novel but it's a nice addition, a very important one. It sets the tone of who they are and makes them look like something real, a cult or group that could exist. Great work to the makeup and writing team! I really did feel an improvement to the dialogue in this episode, feeling natural and overall good. The set that they created for the Whisperers camp was simple but nice. Overall a great build up episode, showing us great drama and suspension in an episode that ultimately builds towards something interesting and iconic.

At first I didn't know what to think about Samantha Morton's performance as Alpha but after seeing three episodes with her I'm sold, she got the ability to act out the scenes and the knowledge of the unpredictable nature of the character, one to be feared. Ryan Hurst is perfect as Beta, he can possibly make the character even better than he was in the graphic novel. Other great character moments were Rosita, Daryl and Negan. Daryl is once again one of my favorites as he kind of acts like he did in the first 4 seasons which is nice to see.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos4 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not everyone or perhaps better stated not anyone but Aaron, is happy with Michone's leadership at Alexandria.

Michone Trump's democracy is actually playing out like an autocracy with her vetoing any idea she doesn't agree with in the name of national security.

Is Rosista's 2 timing going to lead to some strange threesome+baby with Eugene on the outside making relationship matrixs and stretchy pants? Odds are one of her suitors die fairly soon.

Beta's strong physical presence as Alpha's right hand man adds a more threatening dynamic to the Whispers as a whole. Beta would make a good Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees.

The Whispers day to day lifestyle seems more realistic than the junk peoples did. How to make a Whisper mask 101, interesting. How to use a Godfather garrote to the point of decapitation, brutal. Challenging Alpha's leadership, bad idea. At least the dude got to hold his girlfriend's head one last time, touching.

Negan laying the groundwork for his seemingly inevitable freedom is interesting to watch unfold. Fascinating to observe Judith advocate on his behalf. I was just waiting for her to tell Michonne "Your not my Mom !"

Dog retrieves Daryl's arrows from dead Walkers, nice.

It won't be a real fair until the Whispers show up.

Henry's luck was in between West Side Story's knife fight and Romeo and Juliet. (Query: Would Alpha actually allow Lydia to kill Henry or would she have stopped the execution at the last second therefore simply testing her daughters resolve as Alpha said herself having Henry as a hostage is leverage)

Daryl's Walker mask actually looked cleaner than his face and hair usually does.

Interesting parallel of Michone's constitution which gives her the final say and Alpha's law of allowing anyone the right to challenge her leadership only to be summarily executed with the help of Beta.

Lydia had the best line of the night- "Guess Henry is dumber than I thought."

Riveting episode!
panthersfreak4 March 2019
This was an outstanding episode. Alpha is quite the character. You get to know more about what makes her tick. You get to meet Beta, her sidekick(or whatever he is), too. The redemption of the Negan storyline continues. A lot of great stuff in this episode. The actress who plays Alpha has such a presence, I enjoyed every second of her on screen. Fantastic episode tonight.

People way down at the bottom for rating the episode 1 star
lucasbaz4 March 2019
First of all this is a message regarding the people all the way down the reviews rating this episode 4 stars or even 1 star. Second to the smart ass who said "this season has been poor overall and whisperers are so boring how come they can't chop down trees to make shelter?" Well 1 too much noise attracts walkers to their camp which we've seen in this episode. 2 the mid season premier is called "Adaption" do you have any idea what that means or is your brain to stupid to coprehend what that means. They adopt to their surroundings thus meaning they don't need shelter. And to the one who said "where's Maggie" if you've been paying attention to the earlier episodes they said she went to a new camp to build a civilization but yea I forgot your ears are clogged up that you can't hear what they said right. And lastly. To the people who said "this show is garbage it should of ended 2 seasons ago" or "this show needs to end" why would it end when it's been an overall masterpiece of a season. But hey you couch potato you have the remote change the channel if you don't like it. And bring your negative energy to sites and bash the show.

Enter Beta
stephen-615944 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So this was another awesome episode, this season has been amazing. So of course we still have this massive rift between Alexandria and the rest of communities. We still don't know what caused it, but we know it has to do with the X scars on Michonne and Daryl's backs. But it seems the people are not happy being isolated and like Father G has said who will we look to if we need help. So i am looking forward to seeing what caused this massive rift and the scars.

So we got some more Negan and Michonne, since he went back to his cell. He is listening in to what is going on and can tell Michonne is losing her grasp, judith listening in. I do like how judith is kinda becoming a moral compass in a way, defending negan saying he has changed just like how michonne has changed.

Beta is a badass and very creepy, we saw the whole challenging alpha from some other whisperers......which did not turn out to well for them. Alpha just beheading the woman with a wire was brutal.

Then of course the ending where alpha was going to make lydia kill henry. Alpha just had this icy cold stare just before the walkers attacked the whisperer camp that daryl brought in.

Alpha is just one brutal violent villain since i would maybe say the governor. Since the governor after walker penny got killed by michonne he just lost it. He killed all his men after they ran from the battle. I don't think she really cares about the other whisperers, we know she made another whisperer just leave her baby on the ground to be eaten. She probably does not even care about her daughter, just got her out of there to find out what info she gathered.

So this episode was really good, so many things to look forward to. The Fair is coming, pike are coming and Beta and Daryl fighting should be really good.

AMAZING!!! ALPHA AND BETA OMG
martinazulito4 March 2019
Wow... what an awesome episode! OMG, I just loved it, it was a very solid episode. The plot of the whisperes was damn great! Although the plot was slow, the narrative was incredible, for this type of episodes TWD shines.

The way they showed us about the whisperers was unique, they showed us their way of thinking and acting.

What happened to the guns??
songod-950035 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I know the time jump and all changed a lot but did it wipe out the ability to make more bullets?? The three camps ought to be armed to the teeth, but instead they are using knives, sticks, and bow and arrows (oh yeah and a sling shot!).

This Whisperers threat would be over very quickly if they broke out the side arms.

The Way of Life of the Whisperers
claudio_carvalho5 March 2019
Michonne´s security decisions are questioned by the Alexandria Council that wants to participate of the Kingdom´s fair. Negan proposes to be her advisor and Michonne refuses the offer. Daryl and Connie track down Henry while the teenager learns how cruel Alpha is.

"Guardians" is an episode where the viewer learns how cruel Alpha and her sidekick Beta are. Daryl and Connie risk their lives and Hilltop safety rescuing Henry. This stupid and stubborn character is the annoying part of the show. Michonne is concerned with the security of her community but people seem to have forgotten what happened in the past. My vote is seven.

This episode exceeded my expectations!
Splarke224 March 2019
"Guardians" is an amazing, chilling, and dark episode that gives us more insight into how the Whisperers live. We are introduced to the badass villain Beta and get to see what happens when someone questions Alpha's leadership.. On the other end of the spectrum, there are some great scenes with the people at Alexandria, especially Eugene/Gabriel, Michonne/Judith, & Michonne/Negan. This episode is really great and definitely one of the better ones of Season 9 so far!

Good, But...
qmsrocker4 March 2019
I thought it was a good episode overall, but some things need to be addressed.....

Are Gabriel, Rosita, and Siddiq going to have a threesome now or something?

Why does Judith need to have the most unbearably annoying voice in the history of television?

And I think we need to finally find out what happened during the time jump. I'm tired of seeing emotional conversations related to the time skip without finding out what happened during those years.

Just had to say those things....

"Deadly Consequences"
ThomasDrufke4 March 2019
I know the episode is supposed to draw links between the "guardians" of Lydia, Henry, and even Judith, but the episode never really gets going the way the last few weeks have. Michonne comes off as overprotective, Alpha and Beta push Lydia to do things no parent should, and Daryl once again gets Henry out of a sticky situation. The problem lies with the slow pacing and lack of delivery on the "deadly consequences" that the synopsis reads. Plus, there's no really no need for a love quadrangle between characters that don't seem to have earned that at this point in the show. Let's hope next week picks the pace back up.

What have I missed?
steve-667-101906 March 2019
Why do the whisperers walk like the dead? Why do rubber masks keep the real deadens away? Didn't Rick and Co have to smother themselves in viscera to blend in? This is getting harder and harder to like. No spoilers here. The producers are doing a fine job of that.

People in this world

How can a life of a person be so miserable, that it has to rate a TV SHOW EPISODE with 1 Star before it even came out? This alone answers the question, if IMDb ratings should be taken seriously and if they are a reliable source of information, regarding movie and tv quality. Props to you fellow users!

Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad episode, the "challenge" was entertaining while it lasted, but I just can't get into the Alpha character. She is just not hooking me in as a villain like The Governor or Negan did.

Who really are the whisperers?
joshuadavid-247245 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode we had two nuclei: Alexandria and Whisperers.

in alexandria, we see that michonne puts his decisions in safety and is questioned by the council about the fair in the kingdom, and negan, who shows himself changed by saying correctly, proposes to be michonne's advisor, but she does not accept. as dull as it may be, we also had the love triangle and quartet between Rosita, Siddiq, Father Gabriel and Eugene who confesses to being in love with Rosita

Already the positive point of the episode is centered in the camp of the whispers, we know a little about his life and the alpha. the actress samantha morthon continues to act incredibly like alpha that with its strong leadership shows itself more perverse or relentless with its own daughter (lydia) in a moment of tension where it is forced to kill its partner Henry and if the girl does not, the mother would send the beta kill the two, making the alpha even more cruel. But it all ends when zombies invade the camp that are brought to him by daryl and connie who risked their lives by taking the child, daryl in the episode is so stupid that I do not know how he managed to catch the zombies there, being this is not so easy, then even more as a lot, unless Amc has set the scenario quickly in the script ...

In conclusion, '' Guardians '' is an episode that shows the viewer how the animal life is and unbelievable of the whispers in the zombie apocalispe and how cruel is alpha and his right arm Beta, that on the other hand in alexandria we have a worrying situation regarding the expected and dangerous fair that is to come.

"Guardians" continues to explore the fallout of Lydia's return to the Whisperers, as the survivors prepare for an inevitable conflict
fernandoschiavi28 March 2024
In the woods, Alpha questions Lydia about her time at Hilltop but gets nothing out of her though she suspects something is up. Henry is discovered by Beta who takes him to Alpha. Henry sees their way of life and what happens when someone challenges Alpha. At night, Alpha and Beta decide to test Lydia's loyalty by forcing her to kill Henry. This is halted by the arrival of Daryl and Connie who lead Walkers into their camp. Henry forces Daryl to let Lydia come along.

In Alexandria, Michonne scolds her council for keeping secrets from her only for Gabriel to retort that she would've shot their ideas down anyway like sending a delegation to the Kingdom's upcoming trade fair. She asserts that it's so Alexandria survives. She later allows a delegation to go, after Judith confronts her on how she changed despite her belief that no one can change.

"Guardians" continues to explore the fallout of Lydia's return to the Whisperers, as the survivors prepare for an inevitable conflict. The episode delves into themes of loyalty and betrayal, as the survivors question where their allegiances truly lie. One of the most dramatic scenes is when Henry defies the survivors' orders and sets out to rescue Lydia, highlighting the lengths he is willing to go to protect her. "Guardians" sets the stage for a showdown between the communities and the Whisperers, as both sides prepare for a battle that will determine the fate of the region.

The episode also examines the theme of family, as the survivors grapple with the complexities of their relationships in this new world. This theme is exemplified in Michonne's interactions with Judith, as she struggles to balance her role as a leader with her desire to protect her daughter. This theme of family underscores the survivors' need for connection and belonging, even in the midst of chaos and danger.

The Walking Soap Opera. No Rick Part 7. O'Henry Chronicles. Contrivance & Censorship. As a comedy, 10 stars. Otherwise, 1 star. Can you handle the truth?
Bababooe4 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Last week's review was censored, so they only published my sanitized 4th review. The original was a dozy, but you could guess what I wrote.

So, Dumb O'Henry goes after Lyd, and Dar, Dog and Deaf Girl follow. O'Henry is a cheap plot device. We see the Whisps roaming around like Walkers. Real silly stuff. If you're not laughing, please check your pulse, you may have already turned. Very bad. People turning into zombies in a show, or dressing like one in a show is one thing, but the audience turning into zombies, that is unforgivable. Do the producers of this show even know that they are contributing to by dumbing down of our society with this nonsense? Maybe. But they sure know they are making a buck. So, why should they care.

These Whisps in zombie makeup, Hipster Extras in Halloween Masks, are roaming around. They capture poor low IQ O'Henry, and we get to see a rebellion and execution. For the record Alph has the stupidest southern accent I've ever heard. It's unreal. Nobody ever spoke like this, and nobody ever will again. Alph orders Lyd to kill O'Henry. Dar orchestrates a zombie attack by impersonating a Whisp and saves O'Henry and Lyd. Give O'Henry another chance to screw up. O'Henry is a liability.

Alexandria, we have not 3, but ménage à quatre with Rosy, Gab, Sad, and Eug. What a mess. Rosy is with Gab, but pregnant with Sad's baby, and Eug is madly in love with Rosy. What will Rosy do? What will we do?

We have politics, with Mic veto power over not going to the Fair with the Kingdom. Did anybody even bother to let the Kingdom know about the Whisps? At least Hillside told Alexandria about Rosy and Eug. We have Neeg back in the slammer offering his services to Mic. Mic refuses. We have Jud Little Wonder Woman with the Coral/Rick hat talking smack to Mic about Neeg. Super Soap.

The only way to enjoy this is as a comedy. Just add laugh tracks.
