Hi. Yes. Sorry to bother you. Hello. Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior, Deborah Vance? The Emmy award-winning series "Hacks" has just finished its phenomenal third season, one that many fans (myself included) were terrified wouldn't be able to match the triumphant heights of season 2. The second season ended in a way that felt complete if Max were to have pulled the plug on the show, but after the absolutely dynamite season 3 finale, "Hacks" has proven itself as a series that can and should continue as long as stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder want to keep playing Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels, respectively.
It's exciting as a "Hacks" fan from the very start to see so many people finally catching onto what is arguably the best comedy show on TV that isn't "Abbott Elementary" or the not-really-a-comedy brilliance that is "The Bear," especially...

Last summer, Stereotypical Barbie admitted on the dance floor that sometimes she thinks about dying, and in part because of her brutal, relatable honesty, "Barbie" was the biggest hit of the year. Now, Bob the Builder is apparently set to endure the toy company Mattel's next on-screen existential crisis, as star Anthony Ramos says that the movie will follow a version of Bob who has "kind of lost his sense of what it is, to build," per Total Film.
"In the Heights" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" star Ramos spoke to Total Film for the magazine's latest print issue, in which he tried to explain the weirdly emotionally complex plot of the upcoming "Bob the Builder" film. The movie was previously described by The Guardian as being about Bob traveling to Puerto Rico, where he "takes on issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build.

"Only Murders in the Building" has earned pretty much universal acclaim for its first three seasons, including an 8 out of 10 /Film review from Josh Spiegel for season 3. It's also been responsible for Meryl Streep's return to TV, a weirdly catchy original Steve Martin tune (or two), and an official companion podcast called "Only Murders in the Pod." Plus, of course, the show has won four Primetime Emmys and counting. So what's next for the series? In a word: Hollywood.
After three seasons spent solving murders in their unusually deadly New York City apartment building, amateur sleuths Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) are making a great escape. While last season of the zany Hulu mystery series saw the trio of podcast hosts turned frequent murder suspects unmask Ben Glenroy's (Paul Rudd) killer and seemingly get embroiled in another East Coast death, the first teaser for...

Molly Shannon just might be HBO’s newest muse. As Deadline reports, the Emmy-nominated actress is set to star in an as-yet-untitled new comedy series for the cable network, which will be written by her former Saturday Night Live colleague Steve Koren. The duo will co-executive produce the new series.
As far as the plot goes, Deadline writes that Shannon will play a woman who is “deeply addicted to celebrity news and gossip. After friends and family finally confront her, she agrees to get help. Where? The same place where the stars get help—a fancy celebrity rehab in Malibu.”
Think of it as immersion therapy, Hollywood-style. Once there, Shannon’s character actually gets the chance to meet the celebrities she’s only read about—and manages to befriend a famous young actress who encourages her to ditch her family and follow her back to L.A.

Listen up fives — and by that I mean fours. “Girls5eva” is now streaming on Netflix and you’ve run out of excuses. This heightened, hilarious series from “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” writer Meredith Scardino is exactly the kind of bingeable romp that Netflix users allegedly crave, so why aren’t you watching, rewatching, and recommending?
The title “Girls5eva” refers to a fictitious girl group from the late-90s and early-aughts, as well as their breakout song (cause 4eva‘s too short!): Dawn (Sara Bareilles), Summer (Busy Phillips), Gloria (Paula Pell), and Wickie (Renée Elise Goldsberry). The group disbanded after fifth member Ashley (Ashley Park) drowned in an infinity pool, but 20 years later they’re making a comeback.
There was a time when “Girls5eva” would have been a surefire hit. It’s executive produced by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the team behind “30 Rock” and “Kimmy Schmidt,” the latter of...

‘The American Society of Magical Negroes’ Star Justice Smith on His Bold New Film, D&d and PokemonGo
Upon his 2013 graduation from the Orange County School of the Arts, Justice Smith assumed he would spend some time “waiting tables and doing small roles in indie films here and there.” Instead, he found himself working the blockbuster space fairly quickly, booking roles in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and its sequel “Jurassic World Dominion.” He stood out opposite a fuzzy creature voiced by Ryan Reynolds in “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” and as a half-elf sorcerer in “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”
Though it was a crash course in big-budget filmmaking, the 28-year-old actor notes that he wouldn’t have had it any other way. “I’m blessed because those experiences were also highly technical environments that challenged me,” he says. “It strengthened my ability and gave me a more well-rounded arsenal of tools. In her one-woman show, there’s a running joke that Kate Berlant cannot cry on cue. Throughout the performance, she stands in front of a camera that projects footage of her onto a screen above the stage, contorting her face, willing a single tear to fall until, at long last, she triumphs.
Recently, as she closed out the final performances of Kate at the Pasadena Playhouse — after runs in New York and London — the tears were real and more akin to hysterical sobs. “It’s such a surreal experience,” says Berlant, 36, from backstage at the Playhouse. “The crowd can’t tell because they see the tears and think I’m just acting. It made me think about how there’s sort of no difference between a deep emotional experience and just … pretending.”

Comedies have always been Richard Kind‘s bread and butter. With memorable roles in shows like Spin City, Mad About You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Other Two, and now the Night Court reboot, the 67-year-old star has long been one of the industry’s best character actors. But he tells TV Insider that he craves his chance at a dramatic turn like his Spin City co-star/longtime friend Alan Ruck, who showed his dramatic chops in the incomparable HBO series Succession. After being “raised” on the original Night Court and long admiring John Larroquette‘s performance as Dan Fielding, Kind made his Night Court debut in Season 2 Episode 7 on Tuesday, February 13 on NBC. He plays Sy Feldman, a disgraced Broadway producer who’s in legal trouble over faulty investments in his failed shows. The character is a lot like Max Bialystok of The Producers, whom Kind played on Broadway in 2004 opposite Ruck as Leo Bloom.

Molly Shannon, who mined her Irish background to create delightful characters on Saturday Night Live and beyond, is the latest honoree to be announced for the 18th annual Oscar Wilde Awards.
The event, organized by the US-Ireland Alliance, celebrates the work of those from Ireland — and those with Irish roots, as in Shannon’s case — who contribute to film, television and music. It’s set for March 7, three days before the Academy Awards, at the Santa Monica home of Bad Robot, J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s production company.
Shannon, who grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, joins previously announced honorees Pierce Brosnan (born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland) and Oscar-winning VFX artist Richard Baneham (born in Dublin).
“Molly’s Irish American characters on Saturday Night Live — like Mary Katherine Gallagher and Sally O’Malley — are iconic,” Trina Vargo, founder of the US-Ireland Alliance, said in a statement.

As usual, this year’s primetime ceremony occurred one week after the corresponding Creative Arts Emmys – a two-night event primarily focused on artistic and technical accomplishments. Freshman HBO drama “The Last of Us” came out on top there, with eight wins from 19 nominations. The comedies that scored the most victories (four each) were newcomers “The Bear” (FX) and “Wednesday” (Netflix), while the Netflix limited series “Beef” finished with three wins. At long last, the 75th Emmy Awards have arrived. After a four-month delay, the celebration of the best in television from the 2022-2023 season will air on Monday, Jan. 15 on Fox. Scroll down for our official odds in all 26 television categories with our projected winners highlighted in gold.
In the comedy categories, “The Bear” looks to win big for its first season — even though it has already aired and received Golden Globe Awards for its second. Our odds anticipate it will make a near-complete sweep with six wins out of the seven categories. The only place it will not win is Comedy Actress, where they do not have a contender and where our users think Quinta Brunson will win for “Abbott Elementary.” These six wins will be added to “The Bear’s” four trophies from the Creative Arts ceremonies that took place last weekend, where it won for casting, picture editing,...

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we’ll shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week, we’re talking to Reno Studios, a digital studio launched in Taipei in 2017, initially handling VFX for Taiwanese films, and now also bringing work from international clients including Netflix, EuropaCorp, Saudi-owned Mbc Group and India’s Zee to Taiwan. Deadline sat down with co-founders Peter Huang and Tomi Kuo, and Executive Producer/Senior VFX Supervisor Christopher Chen, to talk about how the company has grown, their future plans, and why Taiwan is an ideal destination for VFX and Virtual Production.
Despite being known internationally for its semiconductor and computer hardware industries, Taiwan is not the first destination that springs to mind in the Asia Pacific when it comes to VFX and digital production. Australia and New Zealand have traditionally...

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2023, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
In 2023, I wanted to laugh. Perhaps more than I realized, because when I finally calculated my top-rated films that came out this year, a great portion of my selections turned out to be either straight-up comedies or gripping comedy-dramas. 2023 was the year I embraced funny and moving movie coming-of-age stories probably more than any other, but to me, that genre isn’t only limited to what happens when 11-year-old girls experience their period for the first time or when Elvis Presley decides to take a child bride. For example, Paul Giamatti’s acidic classics teacher experiences something like a middle-aged puberty when he’s forced to care for an abandoned prep school kid during Christmas break in The Holdovers. Day 9 Advance Booking Update Of Salaar(Photo Credit –YouTube)
Salaar, starring Prabhas in the titular role, is doing good at the Indian box office. Even though the big drops have been evident during the weekdays, the huge start has helped the film go above the respectable total. As the second weekend has already started, all eyes are set on how the biggie performs, and as the advance booking for day 9 suggests, it’s going to be a solid second Saturday. Keep reading to know more!
Directed by Prashanth Neel, the action thriller was always going to be a front-loaded affair. Still, it could have been much bigger in terms of collection, but the mixed response from critics and audiences has hampered the run. Also, do not forget that Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki is giving a tough competition in the Hindi belt.

Early in the final season of The Other Two, Cary Dubek (Drew Tarver) shows up at the distant and dingy offices of a Brooklyn-based burrito review website ready to do some press for his straight-to-vod indie movie — only to discover what he’s actually been sent to is a mental health facility. “You are here because anyone desperate enough to say yes to that level of press, and then actually show up to do it, is deeply unwell,” the doctor gravely informs him.
But if Cary’s predicament is an obvious and hilarious exaggeration, the impulse underlying it might feel uncomfortably recognizable. Fame exerts its own gravitational pull, whether you’re chasing it, existing in it or simply feeling its tug from outside of it. It’s no surprise it’s been a favorite topic of Hollywood for as long as Hollywood has existed — sometimes as an aspirational fantasy, sometimes as a cautionary tale.

As a former teaching colleague was very fond of saying: “You can’t make a pie out of sh*t”.
He was wrong and right. You can technically make all manner of things – up to and including pies – out of sh*t, but in the end, put any amount of sh*t in a pie and what you’ll end up with is a sh*t pie. Ingredients matter, is the point. Just ask Gordon Ramsay, or Minny Jackson from The Help.
The ingredients in the below movies and TV shows are the opposite of shit. They’re grade A, top drawer, high quality constituent parts… I really wish I hadn’t started this ‘shit’ thing. Does anybody else feel a bit queasy. And off pies?

The highest-ranked TV shows of 2023 on the popular review site RottenTomatoes.com span multiple genres. Not surprisingly, there are two crime shows with this distinction, both fronted by formidable female cops. The final season of the gripping Happy Valley (AMC+) centers on British Sgt. Catherine Cawood (a powerful Sarah Lancashire), while dark comedy Deadloch (Prime Video) shows bickering partners solving murders in a quirky Tasmanian town. Then there’s a trio of coming-of-age stories: The irresistible Reservation Dogs (Hulu) depicts the blossoming of four Native American teens on an Oklahoma reservation; Primo (Freevee) is about ambitious Mexican American teen Rafa (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio) and his unique family; and comedy The Other Two (Max) shows the struggle of millennial sibs (Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver) when their baby brother (Case Walker) attains overnight fame. The only sci-fi winner: Foundation (Apple TV+), based on Isaac Asimov’s iconic trilogy about warring empires. Tasty...
