Superb!

Amazing series about the superb Anne Lister. Superbly written and beautifully portrayed. The struggles of being a queer individual and overcoming mental illness were done wonderfully.

Gentleman Jack--- I LOVE IT!!!!!

I absolutely love this show!!! The chemistry between both Anne & Ann is just incredible. I am looking so much forward to season 2. I still watch all the episodes of season 1 everyday. And each time I watch episode 8 of their wedding, I always cry tears of happiness for them, that they finally settle down after all they had been through together. What a wonderful love story between two women from any century. This to me is THE best by far I have ever seen! And the fact that its TRUE just makes it even more incredible. The songs and music are perfect for this story! BRAVO!!!

Suranne Jones was born for this role.

Fantastic series up there with the likes of line of duty and poldark for the BBC and a nice replacement for poldark which is coming to an end. Great cast and a little Dr who crossover as Peter Davidson Dr no.5 and suranne who played the manifestation of the tardis. Everything works in this and the chemistry between the cast is first class. Looking forward to s2. The only actor to is surannes performance in this is Stephen Graham in the virtues on ch4.

Are You Still Talking?

Warning: Spoilers
Sally Wainwright as director has been inspired by The Godfather for the ending of series one of Gentleman Jack.

Not another murder victim fed to the pigs. The wedding of Thomas Sowden cross cut with Anne Lister and Ann Walker committing to each other privately in church.

Before then Anne Lister was moping around in Denmark, even wearing a white dress as she went to a ball thrown by the Queen of Denmark.

It was Ann Walker who decides to take back control of her life. She feels suffocated by her brother in law, who is only after her money. The dowry for marrying her off.

When Anne Lister returns to Shibden Hall, the pit story again gets in the way. We get it, Anne might have bitten off too much with the sinking of the pits and she needs more money.

Also Thomas Sowden's crime might not go unnoticed. His uncle appears although this is something that would carry on to the second series.

At least for Anne and Ann, there is a happy and daring ending.
