Where am I? What happened? Who am I? So many questions.....so little time.

In this the pilot episode we get a bit of everything this show titled Doom Patrol, has to offer. Gratuitous sex, T&A, adultery, reckless abandonment, a scientist leader relegated to being in his wheelchair, and a cast of circus misfits who appear to be anti-heroes.

I like the initial characterizations of these super powered misfits brought together by the scientist refrerred to simply as "the Chief" although his character name is Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton). There is a lot packed into this pilot episode so bear with the series and give it a few more episodes before passing final judgement on it as a series.

Rome was not built in a day, and these monsters from Ohio may take a bit more time to get to know them and more importantly to enjoy this unique series.

Pilot patrol
imdbdc-0548519 June 2019
It is a different superhero serie. I'm happy with this pilot episode. This episode is more a flashbacks episode but a good introduction to the Doom Patrol universe.

Positive things It made me laugh a lot specially Cliff. It is a very interesting episode when you don't know anything about the Doom Patrol. It has a very very good cliffhanger.

Negative things The first minute is very unclear. I didn't understand the story of the bad guy because it got too fast.

For a serie the visual effects are quite good. The actors make their roles very credible, in all the characters you can see their effort.

Finally, an Excellent Comic Series for Adult Got Adapted
nightringer-7684020 February 2019
Why excellent? Coz it's enjoyable. I have doubts since Doom Patrol is a difficult story to adapt into any format of film, but the creative team is bills enough to build a TV series.

My praise went to Alan Tudic, tho his appearance in the pilot is short, but impressible.

I can't wait to see the rest of the season 1.

PS: For those who are not a fan of comic books, Doom Patrol is part of DC's Vertigo publication, so it is weird, non-standard superheroes story, unusual, and unique. So please don't expect supermodel-like heroes in tight costumes. The beauty one is the ugliest, the bravest is the crazy one, the strong one literally can't feel a thing, etc.

Doom Patrol Review
deathnote-4836915 February 2019
Doom Patrol is weird show with high potential that bring interesting characters that each one had their moments in the pilot, exploring their origin story starting with Robot man ( Brendan Fraser ), i mean who wouldnt want to see Brendan Fraser's SuperWeirdo version. Is it Better than Titans ? Damn right it is, an ambitious writing often delivers

AN INCREDIBLE START!
theunleashedgamr16 February 2019
I was so so excited coming into this show, the trailer released yesterday was the best trailer for tv show I've ever seen. Now. This pilot may be one of my fav pilots of any show! An absolutely fantastic episode to start off this show. It does not start with humour as you'd expect, it goes very deep into backstories but besides that, there are multiple aspects of humour which is handled very well. The performances are also fantastic, especially from Brendan Fraiser who really captures the character very well. All performances are great. The budget seems to be much higher than titans had, the effects, set design and the tone of the show feels very high budgeted. I do advise not watching this with family in the room, there is nudity and sex a few minutes in and another scene half way through the episode. Overall, a amazing start to this show with incredible potential. I'd rate this 9.8/10

Impressive with a big heart.

I don't expect that emotional weight... this was really impressive (and broken me). The acting is superb, every actor are comfortable with their respective character. Production values are great but not perfect. The style (Comic relief count) is incredible and give the show identity, personality, cool weirdness and even more respect. The story is very sad at least. Every character have a destructive story arc. Doom Patrol first episode is a awesome introduction with a big heart in the story because of the broken and weird super heroes.

She touched my junk...
d.rust22 February 2019
I was so lucky growing up. I got to see GET SMART, THE OUTER LIMITS, MR TERRIFIC, LOST IN SPACE on TV. I read all the great comics from DC. Supes, Batman and Robin, The Flash, Green Lantern, Adam Strange, World's Finest, The Atomic Knights, Metal Men and of course, DOOM PATROL. Stan Lee's stuff was in the mix, but I was always a Detective Comics kind of guy. National Periodical Publications. Curt Swan, Bob Kane, Carmine Infantino, the kings.

Tonight, Cliff, Larry, the Chief and Rita appeared on my telescreen, apparently transported from 1963 to present day, with Crazy Jane soon following. Cliff was his usual grumpy self, Larry an enigma. The Chief was earnestly idealistic. Rita's super power was being an ex-movie star. Why was Cliff so grumpy? Well, it was because the Chief saved him by giving him a robot body.

The introduction should be rated A for Amazing, but it's a little more R-Rated, what with Cliff doing his thing with his "thing", him and the Nanny getting jiggy, before going out with the Wife and Kid for ice-cream and a whole butt-load of blue language. It aint for the kids, Honey.

Pilot episodes are usually all exposition and stuff, but don't worry, they don't drop any anvils on you. You really have to see Rita's super power. Much more amazing than watching a guy in a red suit run around town getting chased by Speed Wraiths.

Greg Berlanti is the Golden Boy in town, and it appears he can do no wrong at no time.

An apposite start for a relatively unkown comic book characters
rahack16 February 2019
Doom Patrol is off to a great start with eccentric characters imbued with stellar performances. The plot of misfits coming together (reminded me of Guardians of the Galaxy) isn't atypical but the way it is executed - for lack of better words- is absurdly unique. Mr. Nobody narrating the story was a major drawback. Everything else is as deft as it could be.

Pilot
Prismark1027 May 2019
Alan Tudyk sets off the pilot with his narration. He is Mr Nobody. It will make you immediately think of Samuel L Jackson but not Nick Fury but Mr Glass, the baddie from Unbreakable and Glass.

Doom Patrol are another bunch of superheroes but they just do not know it yet. From the DC comics they are another bunch not too far from the X-Men but these look like a bigger bunch of losers.

The pilot is set very much set in 1995 in a remote mansion of Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) who is the Chief. The main character so far is Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser) a race driver with life threatening injuries sustained in 1988. Niles saved his brain and transplanted it into a Robotman.

Also in the mansion is ace pilot Larry Trainor (Negative Man) now bandaged up. A monster outside as he once felt like a monster inside because of his sexuality. Rita Farr was a film starlet whose body lost control after an accident, she is Elast-Girl. Crazy Jane with her multiple personalities completes the group.

When the Chief is away, these bunch of misfits explore the outside world and cause mayhem. A donkey sets things off that life is not going to be sedate anymore for this group of misfits.

The first episode is offbeat and misanthropic. It has that sly black humour of the Deadpool films. It set things up in a messy way with an incoherent story. Even the Chief cannot be trusted, he might have been lying to Steele.

Best show ever- touching and emotional at times with an amazing story line and evokes pure laughter
caseybones-146265 June 2019
This show I honestly love it so much.. It's been written absolutely perfectly, in fact I can't imagine how it could be any better in the slightest. This show got me through a very low point and continues to help in the evenings, sad as it sounds! All the characters are misfits and although I can't say it's normal for anyone to blob out or be a brain in a robots body, it's highly relatable deep down with loss, confusion, hope as well as the way situations are dealt with! They're not un realistically brave, they have feelings and fear, yet they don't hold back. Crazy Jane and her portrayl by far has hit me on a personal level myself; never have I nor will I have a dissociative personality disorder but the trauma and ill side of the character relates to my position, as many other people today, a lot; the character Cliff however helps her, a lot in the long run despite it not all being smooth; he hurt her at one point unintentionally, as what what I have experienced a lot with people, but simply because innocent things and comments breached her already sensitive threshold; in the end it'd almost like give people or let people give a second chance; those who are true will try try again, and that honestly hit me a lot! This is a bit of a random, irrelevant review I suppose from the normal but this is my honest favorite show of all time in all aspects.. the acting is beyond brilliant; I thought Titans was a good show was amazing but this is out of the world Praying for a season 2 and everyone, you must watch this! Thank you!!

Is this a kids show or an adult show?
garabedian12314 June 2020
You would think the nudity at the start would have made it obvious. But then we get this child like narrator throughout the episode. And then the characters start devolving into children instead of acting like adults. Hope it gets better

Move on
DrERH15 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I must say I wanted to enjoy this pilot more than I did. As someone who remains underwhelmed or put off by the humorlessness of the DC universe, I was looking forward to the humor of The Doom Patrol. And I like the casting. (My opinion also comes from not having read the comic.)

Ultimately, I found the characters in enjoyable and the villain overblown. Jokes fell flat for me.

But rather than go on about this, let me hasten to my final thought: Keep Watching. It gets better. The characters develop backstory, the world gets wilder, and Mr Nobody gets (somewhat) less annoying in the process. From Nazi puppets to chaos magic in only a few episodes, I'm now thoroughly a fan.
