- In order to ease his conscience, a man returns to the land of his birth after 25 years, but nobody recognizes him. Or, rather, that's what he believes.
- The Milanese painter Sergio Morlaghi is suddenly forced to embark on a journey with his old scooter. After a turbulent start during which he casually meets Luca and Lisca, two young friends who are looking for a change in their life, which actually happens, he hangs around for some time on a rather deserted area of northern Italy, the floodplain flanking the Sesia river with its rice fields. The purpose of his wandering is apparently simple, but a series of odd encounters makes his task almost impossible. He manages to find again after many years Bruna, a light-headed bartender, probably an old flame of his who, maybe unwillingly, gives him some wrong information. His roaming goes on and he collides with the few and scattered inhabitants of the rice field area, human wrecks with not very friendly behaviors who spy on him and sometimes also ambush and make fun of him. Amongst them George, an irascible ex stage director who is convinced that he has found a new dimension along the pebbly shore of the Sesia river, in spite of having a conflictual relationship with the indigenous people. Gallivanting around, Sergio also reaches a travelling funfair, where he spends his evenings and he knows Marta, who runs a chairoplane with her stooge Flo, a mental defective. The relationships between the various characters gradually get complicated, without Sergio finding a solution to his problems. More and more disappointed, he eventually decides it's time to throw in the towel. The narration develops through the intertwining of two temporal frames, astonishingly shot with the same actors in 2019 and in 1994, when they were 25 years younger.
