Nice interview

Director Nicholas Meyer talks at interesting and informative length about the making of the controversial end-of-the-world post-nuke TV movie "The Day After" in this 28-minute interview. Meyer begins the interview by discussing the premise of mutually assured destruction and reveals that top network executive Brandon Stoddard came up with the idea for "The Day After." Moreover, "The Day After" was originally called "Silence in Heaven" and was going to be a two-part mini-series (Meyer actually shot it as such before it was whittled down to a little over two hours). Meyer also talks about meeting Jason Robards on a plane and subsequently convincing Robards to star in the film as well as discusses at length the difficulties he had dealing with the frustrating demands of standards and practices at the time. Meyer further reveals that at one point in post-production he walked off the picture for three months. Worth a watch.
