“Moon Knight,” Marvel Studios’ new Disney+ series, just entered its second week. And the mystery is just beginning.
Thankfully, Marvel Studios recruited two of the most exciting young filmmakers working today, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, to help guide Steven Grant (or is it Marc Spector?), played by Oscar Isaac, through his supernatural odyssey. The duo have been making electrifying, mind-bending independent features like “The Endless” and “Synchronic,” and their jump to Marvel Studios has maintained everything that make their films so gripping: inventive camerawork, emphasis on character details and the sensation that, at any moment, the rug could be pulled out from under you in the most Wtf-worthy way possible.
TheWrap got to speak to Benson and Moorhead about what it was like transitioning to the MCU, working with Isaac and Hawke, and how they kept track of Moon Knight’s multiple identities.
How did you get absorbed into the MCU?...

When Da’Vine Joy Randolph is acting, you pay attention. It’s not just her magical voice or the fact that she seems to effortlessly embody all of her characters with such ease. It’s almost as if her middle name is exactly what she is, just pure joy. Her parents did a lovely job with her name. The “High Fidelity,” actress may know a thing or two about being on Hulu, but she’s also been on Broadway, and she’s also been on stage in London’s West End. She’s talented, she’s educated, she’s a powerhouse, and she is someone that the world should

While Batman might be reigning over the box office, it was Catwoman who stole the spotlight last night on Saturday Night Live. As part of her opening monologue, host Zoë Kravitz shared just how seriously she prepared to portray Selina Kyle in the new Matt Reeves film The Batman, saying, "I watched the movie musical Cats every day for a year." "Which," she added, "I actually heard was the same way Joaquin Phoenix prepared to play the Joker." But before the High Fidelity actress, 33, could continue, she was joined onstage by Kate McKinnon—dressed in Michelle Pfeiffer's costume from the 1992...

When Zoe Kravitz calls out “SNL” for its “boy energy” in the new “Saturday Night Live” promo (watch above), we have a feeling she’s only half joking. Indeed, the star of “The Batman” is only the fourth female host so far of Season 47, following Kim Kardashian West, Billie Eilish and Ariana DeBose. Men have hosted all of the other 11 episodes. Kravitz appears on the March 12 installment of NBC’s sketch comedy series with musical guest Rosalia.
SEEIs ‘SNL’ new tonight? Host, musical guest details
In the promo video, Rosalia tells Kravitz she’s “glad a woman is hosting,” as testosterone-filled cast members Mikey Day and Chris Redd jockey for position beside them.
Kravitz responds matter-of-factly, “Yeah, this place has a lot of boy energy.” Boy, is she right!
Currently, of the 21 regular and featured “SNL” cast members, only nine are women: Aidy Bryant, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Kate McKinnon,...

Before Zoë Kravitz sunk her claws into Catwoman for Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” the actress said she was told she didn’t have the right look for a role in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” due to her skin color.
After attempting to audition for the film back in 2012, she was told she was too “urban” to star in the movie.
“I don’t know if it came directly from Chris Nolan,” Kravitz recently told The Guardian. “I think it was probably a casting director of some kind, or a casting director’s assistant.”
Kravitz, who is of Black and Jewish descent, added, “Being a woman of color and being an actor and being told at that time that I wasn’t able to read because of the color of my skin, and the word ‘urban’ being thrown around like that, that was what was really hard about that moment.

(Welcome to TV, Interrupted, a series where the /Film team remembers, eulogizes, and makes a case for the revival of TV shows we loved that were canceled far too soon.)
Growing up, I found that consuming TV as religiously as I did endeared me to two kinds of characters: the women of color who looked like me (but didn't necessarily share many internal sensibilities), and the cranky, curmudgeonly white dudes that I felt were me personified. Space and space exploration are having a moment in the pop culture zeitgeist. Just in the past year, we’ve seen Netflix alone trot out “Space Force,” “Away,” and “Over The Moon.” It’s with that in mind that the streaming space race takes flight with Disney+’s “The Right Stuff” debuting on the streamer roughly a year since it launched in November 2019.
“The Right Stuff,” which states that it is not only based on Tom Wolfe’s novel of the same name, but additionally Philip Kaufman’s 1983 adaptation for the screen, is Disney+’s first attempt at a more mature series since both “High Fidelity” and “Love, Victor” were ported over to Hulu for fear that the content wouldn’t sit well alongside Disney’s more family-friendly fare. Including the screenplay in the credits is notable because the specter of the 1983 film iteration haunts every moment of the series,...

World conditions make this year’s Grammy voter choices in the visual-media categories somewhat harder to predict, in part because so many of us have been staying home watching television. So while some score nominees are likely to come from late-2019 releases, including Hildur Guðnadóttir’s Oscar-winning “Joker,” John Williams’ “StarWars: The Rise of Skywalker,” Thomas Newman’s “1917,” Randy Newman’s “Marriage Story” and Alexandre Desplat’s “Little Women”), final choices could easily include streaming content which, while eligible, has rarely made the nominations list.
Terence Blanchard’s score for Netflix’s “Da 5 Bloods” is a strong candidate, as are recent Emmy winners like Labrinth’s “Euphoria,” Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ “Watchmen,” both on HBO, and Ludwig Göransson’s “The Mandalorian” on Disney Plus.
A bit harder to predict: the choices for compilation soundtrack, the category that includes song scores. High on the list is the album for Disney’s “Frozen 2,...

AMC’s episodic anthology series “Soulmates” takes place 15 years into the future, following the discovery of a test that unequivocally tells you who your soulmate is. And that test, created by fictional company Soul Connex, would actually work, according to series co-creator Brett Goldstein.

John Cusack talks about political activism, Hollywood, the highs and lows of his 30-year career – and Utopia, the new TV series set to warm him up

“What if a new piece of tech could tell you who your soulmate is?” isn’t exactly fresh territory for science fiction. The idea that love could (should?) boil down to a science is an appealing, if unnerving, fantasy. “Soulmates,” the latest iteration of this concept, doesn’t work too hard to explain how such a game-changing technology became possible in its near future world. Instead, it imagines what the arrival of a foolproof soulmate “test” would do to the shift people’s perspectives on what “true love” means, challenge those already in relationships and make the world an irrevocably different place. From co-creators Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”) and Will Bridges (writer of “Black Mirror” episode “U.S.S. Callister”), each of the six episodes focuses on an entirely different story and set of relationships. The chapters that work best, by a mile, are the ones that remain as firmly...

“The Simpsons” fans might notice at least one long-running character sounds a little different in Sunday’s Season 32 premiere.
In the episode, Carl Carlson — Homer Simpson’s nuclear plant co-worker, and best friend to Lenny Leonard — is now voiced by actor Alex Désert (“Better Things”). Désert replaces Hank Azaria in the role, at least for that episode.
The switch comes as “The Simpsons” producers confirmed earlier this summer that it would no longer have white actors voice non-white characters. Azaria had voiced Carl, who is Black, since the beginning of the show.
It’s unclear whether Désert is Carl’s permanent voice, and if he’ll be voicing other characters as well. Among other recurring characters the edict might impact include Dr. Julius Hibbert, who is seen in the episode, but doesn’t speak.
Désert also voices Swarm on Disney Xd’s “Spider-Man: Maximum Venom” and Mr. Bojenkins on Adult Swim...

Each episode features a different cast and explores an entirely new story around “discovering (or opting not to discover) the results of this new test and the impact of those results on a myriad of relationships,” according to AMC.
The series, which has already been picked up for a second season, premieres Monday, Oct. 5.
The cast includes Sarah Snook (“Succession”), Kingsley Ben-Adir, David Costabile (“Billions”), Sonya Cassidy, Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”), Malin Akerman, Bill Skarsgård, Betsy Brandt, JJ Feild (“Turn”), Laia Costa (“Victoria”), Shamier Anderson (“Goliath”), Georgina Campbell (“Black Mirror”), and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (“Candyman”), among others.
The series is created by “Black Mirror” alum Will Bridges and Brett Goldstein, based on their short film “For Life.

Here’s yet another reason to be super bummed about Hulu’s “High Fidelity” cancellation: Kingsley Ben-Adir, who played Mac on the one-and-done show, told the L.A. Times that a second season was going to be “Cherise-focused,” with Da’Vine Joy Randolph becoming the series lead.
Ugh. That would have been really good — just like Season 1.
“Annoyingly, Season 2 was really gonna be a Cherise-focused season,” Ben-Adir said. “She was gonna become the lead of the show, and the story was leaning toward being about where she’d come from, her heartbreaks and her family background. And they stopped it just as that was about to happen.”
“But we move on,” he said.
Sadly, we must — unless Netflix is reading and wants to save the adaptation of the 2000 John Cusack movie. (Please?)

Breakups suck - a sentiment that I found myself face to face with upon hearing the news about Hulu's decision to cancel High Fidelity. I'll admit, when I first heard that Hulu had decided to revive the intellectual property for a series, I wasn't completely thrilled. Unpopular opinion: I wasn't head over heels for the John Cusack film, and I never read Nick Hornby's book. Once I saw Zoë Kravitz and Da'Vine Joy Randolph were part of the lineup, dread quickly turned into anticipation.
Hulu's reimagining of High Fidelity follows Rob (Kravitz), a record-store owner still reeling after a traumatic breakup with her ex-fiancé. Wondering if there's something wrong with her, she hunts down her exes in search of answers. Each episode is accompanied by a killer soundtrack to guide us through the narrative while providing insight into its characters. But this Rob isn't...

A decade ago, it was pretty easy to understand the reasons behind a TV network canceling a series. Normally, it all just came down to numbers, and the weekly ratings would give folks a clear indicator of which shows were doing well and which weren’t. Now, with streaming keeping those viewership numbers hidden, cancellations of TV series feel sudden and without any sort of justification. That’s exactly what happened this weekend when it was announced that “High Fidelity” was canceled by Hulu.

Zoë Kravitz is taking a shot at Hulu’s on-screen diversity record over the cancellation of her series, High Fidelity, after one season.
In a response to fellow actress Tessa Thompson’s reaction to Kravitz’s Instagram post on the cancellation, Kravitz wrote, “At least hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of color we can watch. oh wait.”
While Hulu has recently added such series as Wu-Tang: An American Saga, featuring a predominantly Black cast, Ramy Youssef’s Ramy, and Love, Victor, with a Latinx title character, the leads in those series are all male.
Kravitz also received support from screenwriter and actor Lena Waithe, who wrote, “Nooooooo!!! I rarely find shows that genuinely impress me. This one did. I told you how much I loved this show. And I still do. This one definitely deserved another season.”
Questlove, the drummer of The Roots, added his sentiments on the cancellation.

The crushing news this week for fans of the rookie series “High Fidelity,” starring Zoë Kravitz, that Hulu pulled the plug on the show after just one season was a crushing blow. And that included the series’ cast, as featured by Kravitz in a touching Instagram tribute to the series, adapted from the novel by Nick Hornby that was itself previously adapted into a 2000 film starring John Cusack.

Hulu has renewed “Love, Victor” and Padma Lakshmi’s food exploration series “Taste the Nation” for 10-episode second seasons, the streaming service announced Friday during its turn at the Ctam Summer 2020 press tour.
“Love, Victor” is the sequel series to 2018 movie “Live, Simon,” which it self was inspired by Becky Albertalli’s novel, “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda.”
The first season of the 20th Century Fox Television series followed Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School, on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city and exploring his sexual orientation, according to Hulu. As Victor and his friends mature, so will Season 2, which will build on the themes of sexual identity, acceptance and navigating the odyssey we all know as high school.

“Love, Victor” and “Taste the Nation With Padma Lakshmi” will be coming back for seconds.
Hulu announced at its summer TCA press tour day that both series have been picked up for season 2. The news comes less than two months after both shows debuted within a day of each other.
It also comes two days after Hulu canceled another freshman series in Zoe Kravitz rom-com “High Fidelity.” It’s particularly interesting that “High Fidelity” was given the boot and “Love, Victor” the nod, given that both shows made much-publicized moves from Disney Plus to Hulu amid a larger content shuffle between the two Disney-owned platforms.

Hulu dropped the trailer for its upcoming comedy series “Woke” on Friday, a semi-animated show that picks apart what it means to become, well, woke.
In the 2-minute, 23-second video, which you can view above, you’ll meet Keef (played by Lamorne Morris), an African-American cartoonist who is just about to break into mainstream success when get he is the victim of an incident of police brutality and his life becomes more animated.
No, really, it actually gets more animated, as you can see in the trailer, which shows Keef start to hear trash cans, beer bottles and walls talking to him after he gets his “ass beat” by the police. Soon his own cartoons are coming to life before his very eyes.

‘Pen15’ Season 2 Trailer: Anna and Maya are the Best Friends on ‘God’s Green Frickin’ Earth’ (Video)
The trailer for Season 2 of Hulu’s “Pen15” comedy series is out, and it finds best friends Anna and Maya trying out a lot of awkward things that only middle schoolers do, like trying on each other’s underwear, making out with mirrors, and putting their hair in the locker of the boy they have a crush on.
Through thick and thin, from first drinks to encounters with boys at pool parties, Anna knows one thing is for sure when it comes to Maya: “She’s my best friend on God’s green frickin’ earth.”
The series, which stars Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine as adults playing their 13-year-old middle school selves in the early 2000s while surrounded by actual 13-year-old, returns for its second season on Sept. 18.
