The show is taking its time developing the relationships among the wranglers. Scenes have plenty of room to breathe and it works. While not the main focus, these scenes come off as the most genuine and are a joy to watch.

Always a shock in this show

Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers of course:
Jimmy finally has a good day and achieves something that others respect. The scene between him and the old wrangler was heartwarming.
The woke communist reporter who believes that private property ownership is morally wrong gets murdered by Jamie. She effectively portrayed everything wrong with the self righteous hard left liberal brainwashing establishment... tearing down institutions just because it feels "right". While this screen death should feel reprehensible I gloated inwardly. It's interesting that as slick and urban as Jamie presents himself, at heart he's a brutal SOB with no remorse... a fricking cowboy in the words of the clinic doctor.

Inconsistent and treading water

Suffice to say, I'll give the show credit: I'm still watching late into season two and find genuine entertainment. However, this show is frustrating and bewildering. Why are the Beck brothers now the main antagonist? Because the plot demands Jenkins and rainwater become patsies overnight in spite of their enormous resources. The show veers awkwardly between a cowboy romp (antics with ranch hands are the shows best part) and the family drama which is written bafflingly and changes on a dime. It's so frustrating because the actors are fantastic and the Shakespearean potential is right there waiting to be plumbed. I don't care what happens to their ranch, these characters are flat and with the exception of John Dutton, deeply stupid. The show's best character is Jimmy, and the actor who plays him brings great humanity to the part and managed to evoke some soul. Also, the soundtrack is incredible and opening theme hints at what a great piece of literature this show could be. God bless all the attractive cowboys.
Those poor students

What a waste of tuition dollars for students in American History at Montana State. They get Monica, an academic lightweight (a mere high school teacher) with an attitude and a severe political agenda, focusing on narrow issues rather than the one hundred years of history they are supposed to be covering. Instead of textbooks and lectures, they attend an Indian rodeo.
The Monica character may have started as affirmative action casting, unfortunately a common thing, but the actress is Asian not American Indian. Is not this a highly objectionable offense for the woke mob?
But she also a terrible actress and her plot line is totally irrelevant at this point. She should run off with her therapist and live a happy life in some other show.
