Monsters and melancholy Warning: Spoilers
It's almost inevitable not to think in the films of Guillermo del Toro while watching this short, as its influence on it feels pretty evident: The contrast between childhood innocence and some strange, symbolic horrors immediately evoke movies such as Pan's Labyrinth.

The theme of parental loss (A key element from many of his movies) is also present here, and leads to a emotional conclusion after all the horror.

It would be nice to see more of this story, since in many ways it feels like a fragment from a bigger tale; which definately would work as a feature length film done in this same style.

The Tragic Story of a Little Boy
panagiotis19934 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
La Noria or ''water wheel'', that was the google translation in english, is a beautiful animated short film about a little boy dealing with the death of his father. Based on what we see building these wheels with his father was something the boy used to do with his father while he was alive, something they used to do to strengthen their bond and have fun. The boy keeps building these wheels even after his dad is gone, probably a way to feel close to him, a way to keep his memory alive. The monsters in the movie are not real monsters. They are this little boy's demons. All the fear, pain, despair and suffering that the boy has to go through after his father's death. In the end we see that the boy is able to face his fears and build the wheel and the monsters fade away. A simple but very powerful short film. The animation is top notch, the music fits perfectly and overall this is very well done. My rating is 8.5/10.

A Gem! A masterclass in the art of animation!

I found this through the NOLA horror film festival. I wasn't expecting anything more than a spooky monster movie from a child's pov with some good rendering. What I got was absolutely gripping! The animation was a feast to the eyes and has heavy attention to detail. I could see myself watching this a half-dozen times and still finding more in the background. Not to mention the clever payoff at the end! Very unexpected, I say.

Worth the time, and then some. Find it on youtube and watch it asap!

Highly captivating and emotional. I applaud the creativity of the people who made this! I watched it without any prior knowledge and so glad I did, this short film took me on a journey. I wasn't expecting that at all--it was an animated twelve-minute video recommended on my YouTube, where I was only trying to kill time. It starts out seeming like a little boy's nightmare, creepy and well-made regardless--but nothing spectacular. La Noria quickly turns into a heartwarming story about grief, guilt, and hope. I felt the whole spectrum of emotions, with fear in my heart at the beginning and tears of joy and purity in my eyes by the end.

A boy. His hand, his nails. So real than, at the first sigh, you have the certitude to be a real one. But it is only animation. A good one, a beautiful one, impressive not only for realism of details or for lovely storytelling, but for something defining it as one of the most impressive parables. A boy, his memories, hhis monsters, his past resurrected in fascinating manner. I love it very much ! For mechanisms, for boy, for house, for the final revelation. So, just a gem.
