Strength is this episode's salvation.

Warning: Spoilers
Jamie Childs returns to the director's chair with this installment & delivers the best episode he's made since the finale in season 1.

Ruth Wilson truly shines moreso than usual as the deliciously complex Mrs Coulter - who truly impresses in beautifully shot sequence featuring the ominous Spectres - & pieces of the puzzle begin to finally draw together - all gradually converging towards one hopeful location to culminate in what presumably is a grandiose showdown between the two opposing sides next week.

Malice

There is a lot happening in Cittàgazze the place of spectres and feral children.

Will and Lyra are at risk from these children, they are angry at these two but the witches arrive just in time to save them. They need to tend to Will's injuries.

Mary Malone has also arrived in Cittàgazze. She seems to be protected from the spectres and although not quite sure just where she has landed. The children of the city for the first time behave like kids. One of them just wants a hug from Mary.

With Lee Scoresby and John Parry right behind in the hot air balloon. The episode hints of people coming together but that is saved for the finale.

The danger and malice is really Mrs Coulter. She manages to controls the spectres and shows Boreal in a cold blooded way that he was never her equal. She might have appeared weakened by Lyra but showed reserves of strength.

The episode again looks beautiful and is really setting things up for the final episode showdown.

A Tedious Episode

Warning: Spoilers
In Cittàgazze, the witches see angels at the sky. Lyra is worried with the infection in Will's hand. When she goes to a pump to bring water to Will, she sees Angelica and Paola with other children coming to her house to kill them to revenge their brother Tulio. However, Serafina Pekkala saves Lyra and Will. They leave the town and Serafina and other two witches cast a spell to heal Will's hand, but she tells them that Will should need to cross back to her world where the plants are more powerful. Meanwhile, the balloon of Lee Scoresby and Jopari cross the window used by Asriel and arrive at Cittàgazze. Mary Malone sees Angelica and Paola and offers to take them to the spot where the adults are hidden. But when the evil Lord Boreal and Marisa Coulter arrive at Cittàgazze, Marisa control the Spectres and betrays Boreal.

"Malice" is a tedious episode of "His Dark Materials". The power and evilness of the ugly Marisa Coulter is unlimited, and her betrayal to Boreal was expected. However, her great power is irritating since she seems to be uncontrollable. Why the independent Angelica and Paola need someone give a hug and to guide them to the adults, pretty after trying to kill Lyra and Will? Lyra and Will show no chemistry to each other and they are not good actress and actor. Therefore, their segment is becoming unbearable with their stubborn attitudes. Mary Malone seems to be lunatic, going to a dangerous world and reading books. My vote is six.
