Talent Round-Up Day: Jon Robertson, Johnny & Bobby Crawford; Introduction to 'The Adventures of Spin and Marty'
The Mickey Mouse Club
This episode includes an introduction to the most popular serial ever shown on the original Mickey Mouse Club, ' The Adventures of Spin and Marty'. It was a low-key story about fourteen boys spending the summer on a ranch. The two central characters were an orphaned rich boy, and a cool, lower middle-class kid with no father. Their rocky path to friendship, and their interaction with the other boys, horses, and adults on the Triple R made a lasting impression on viewers. The series included 25 Chapters airing daily from November 7, 1955 to December 9, 1955.
As a child prodigy and student of the renowned pianist and teacher Ethel Leginska, Jon Robertson was awarded full scholarship for six consecutive years to the Juilliard School, where he earned his B.M., M.S. and D.M.A. degrees in piano performance as a student of Beveridge Webster. After completing a master's degree at the Juilliard School, he was appointed chair of the Department of Music at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. Presently, Robertson is the dean of the Lynn University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida (as of 05/2021).
