Di chi è la Terra? (Eng. Whose is the Land? ) (14'21" - Italy, 2018), first film written and directed by Daniela Giordano, tells the story, with great lucidity and irreverent irony, of the consumer and profit culture, masquerading as green and politically correct. Squandering of water resources, land grabbing, social injustice and pitfalls of the green economy in musical comedy style. The story shows the everyday life of two families set in opposition: in the "World Above" lives the La Bianca family (David Sebasti, Laura Mazzi, Davide Giordano) who talk about their ecologically sustainable choices while water gushes unused from their taps at home; in the "World Below" lives the Le Noir family (Alfie Nze, Balkissa Maiga, Sofia Andreotti) who are forced to walk kilometers everyday to get water only to find the fountains dry. The two worlds appear to be separate but such is not the case. The pipe system is the same and everything is connected. And it is through the pipe system that the story portrays the first unexpected event, with someone who observes the very different life styles of the two families and decides to intervene; it is the goddess Earth (Daniela Giordano) who speaks in rap accompanied by the goddess Music (Danila Massimi). The intervention of music as a dramatic device results in a surprising change in narrative style, injecting the story with elements of the musical. Now we see clearly, by means of the clever use of comedy, that the two worlds are not separate: it is the consumer choices and life style of the La Bianca family who live in the "World Above" that are the cause of the impoverishment of the Le Noir family who live in the "World Below". The film reserves the final dramatic turn of events to the children, leaving them the task of making the choice able to recreate an equilibrium between the two families. The film makes extensive use of color, both in the portrayal of the environment and in the identification of the characters, skillfully filmed by the director of photography Gianni Mammolotti. In the film's palmares: Best Music Award at the 7th Mumbai International Short Film Festival 2018 (India); Best Music and Best Screenplay at the 6th Noida International Film Festival 2019 (India); Albert I of Monaco Foundation Prize, Best Film MediCinema and Special Mention Water&Environment at the 4th Water Film Festival 2019 (Italy); Official Selection at the Roma Indipendent Prisma Film Festival 2019 (Italy); Best Director and Best Film at the International Shorts Film Festival of India 2019 (India); Official Selection 7th International of the Short...but not too short 2019 (Italy); Best Film at Freegene Corti Film Festival 2019 (Italy); Best Narrative Short at Krakow International Green Film Festival 2019 (Polland). In addition, the short film was chosen to represent Italian cinema in the world on the World Day of Italian Cinema celebrated on January 20, 2020, the centenary of Federico Fellini's birth and will be screened in the United States at the Los Angeles Italia Film Fashion and Art Fest from 2nd to 8th February, 2020.
