Anthony Nalli and his wife Lisa on their first trip in their new-to-them class A motor home had a chance meet up with Cherie Ve Ard and Chris Dunphy (AKA Technomadia) in Elkhart, Indiana in 2015. They were one of the host pairings he had in mind for the show when he created it.
Series creator Anthony Nalli had a handful of popular RVing YouTubers in mind to host the show. He reached out first to The RV Geeks, Peter Knize and John Sullivan, because theirs was the first YouTube video he ever watched when beginning to seriously explore RVing. They quickly and enthusiastically responded starting their professional relationship.
Anthony Nalli has had an interest in RVing since he was a child, inspired by sci-fi TV series Ark II (1976). While Ark II (1976) wasn't actually depicted as a recreational vehicle, it was close enough for the then 10 year old to consider it similar enough to one. He fairly seriously pursued acquiring an RV twice over the decades following until finally fulfilling his lifetime desire in 2015.
The title, logo, and format of The RVers (2019) is directly spun off from the aviation series The Aviators (2010).
While Anthony Nalli has served as a host of his other series, The Aviators (2010), when he created The RVers (2019) he did not intend on hosting the show at all (though he would narrate The RVers (2019), as he does The Aviators (2010)). As the show was originally intended to have type-specific hosts, after failing to sign the camper van couple he had approached that he decided he would host since he now owned the same camper van.
