Grover's a good guy and all. But, whole episode?
jaccer1118 November 2018
Grover is awesome! But, did we really have to spend 90% of the episode watching him fight with his brother and The rest of the family sit around and talk? You can make a point about family and thanksgiving without taking away from the real reason we're watching "Hawaii Five-0".

Why the Hate-On for Lou?
yoredm18 November 2018
I might be out in left field all by myself but, I think Chi McBride is one of the best actors on the show. The man has depth. Maybe you are complaining about his story line that he is fed? But the actor himself is terrific. No, this isn't his mother! I have lived the older brother squabble. He nailed it.

As for the crime they investigated? I would think that the guy who stole the card would be up for multiple charges besides 'theft over'. What about 'negligent homicide'? That part of the show was the weakest for me.

Glad to see that the restaurant is (hopefully) going to be over and done with.

Touching Thanksgiving Story
barlowralph17 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I write in strong opposition to the reviews posted by "knuckle47" and "bote." Granted, this episode is very different from most of them, but far from being weak and failing, I found it to be a lovely, touching story revolving around the Grover family. I loved Louis Gossett and Gladys Knight as the grandparents, and the final resolution of the differences between Lou Grover and his brother was very sweet.

Not the worst
theresesor9 December 2019
It wasn't the worst episode but still pretty boring. I guess that's because Chi Macbride is the one who wrote the episode so it is almost just about Lou who is the character he plays.

Too forced
Mira-2932811 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not american and Thanksgiving episodes tend to annoy me but this one! Oh awful. I love Grover character but here, way too much. His plot with his brother (not even introduced before) was so bad, so long, so forced and so pathetic. I was completely out of this episode and so bored that I watch it in 2x speed. The thief plot was weak and the moral at the end, urgh! it feels like it's OK to steal rich people to feed for one meal poor people no matter that a poor guy died under the safe. Who knows maybe he was still alive when the great thief drill the safe and didn't call 911... I'm a bit excessive but for me, one a the worst episode of the show.

Back to it's best.

After the awful episode last week (episode 7) Hawaii Five-0 is back on form. Outstanding episode with a good story and heart warming moments mixed with the right amount of humour.

Weak Thanksgiving episode
bote17 November 2018
Too much time spent on the improbable sibling rivalry between Grover and Percy trying to kill each other over Thanksgiving dinner. I guess the extended feel-good wrap-up at the end benefits the Thanksgiving spirit, but the whole thing just seemed so forced and unnecessary.

Oh, and the Big Crime was stealing a valuable baseball card out of a rich guy's safe after it crushed another thief falling down the stairs. OK, that's figured out, let's go eat turkey! I left hungry.

And that HAD to be Louis Gossett, Jr. despite what my friend said.

Once upon a time...
tonycarr26 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Jack Lord and James McArthur would charge around Hawaii catching the bad guys in a fairly entertaining manner. Now look...

We start off with everybody playing football for reasons that are never explained. The crime involves someone getting crushed under a safe, which soon gets forgotten. The villain isn't really a bad guy, he just wants to help lonely people at Thanksgiving. We never find out what happens to him. Most of the story is given over to Lou's problems with his brother. Why does anyone think I care? If I wanted to watch family arguments and fighting I'd watch a soap opera (or my own home movies)They wasted huge amounts of time fighting over cooking a turkey. Really? Why can't I have an action cop show back. At least fast forwarding through the Grover family tedium let me finish early.

I just hope this is the last series because it's becoming pathetic now.

This show jumped the shark several seasons ago
dbvirago-9112928 November 2018
But this season is horrible. I like Chi McBride, but the Halloween episode was horrible and the Thanksgiving one is worse. Then you have the constant bickering between McGarrett and Danny like they are an old married couple. Has there been an actual cop episode this year? Please let this show die.

NO THANKS!
blueoysterdvp17 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Five-O has been flirting with "Jumping The Shark" since Lou Grover joined the Team. Joining after being fired from the HPD SWAT Team makes no sense. When Five-O episodes have focused on Grover they have ALL BEEN STINKERS. The Grover's BEST FRIEND IN THE WORLD SAGA was as pathetic as CBS gets. The same Network that was too cheap to sign Linda from Blue Bloods, Kono and Chin Ho from the very same Hawaii Five-O. Lou's buddy kills off his wife while vacationing in Hawaii. How convenient for Lou. Grover's quest to prove his buddy's guilt was beyond terrible. The ENTIRE CHICAGO POLICE episode series as follow ups? HORRIBLE! Maybe the worst besides last nights Thanksgiving to forget, would be sledge hanmer yielding Lou destroying his friends apartment while holding the cheating girlfriend hostage. The Steve and Dano restaurant shenanigans was enough for cancellation. But Lou? Over Catherine Rollins? Uhh.. did CBS REALLY PICK THE BIG GUY OVER THE TALENTED Michelle Borth? Not much to say POSITIVE about the "get me my Maalox" Thanksgiving from the Cheesy Hall Of Fame. It's real bad! A waste of 60 minutes if you watched it live, 43 minutes on the DVR. I saw it live Eastern Time. I had no warnings but had a hunch when Grover took over it was doomed. Watch any episode that Grover doesn't star in. It'll be at least twice as good as this. Stick with the First Four Seasons on DVD/BluRay/Netflix. Then read the IMDB ratings beyond that. Don't binge on leftovers!

This is a 15-minute episode
superted2uk19 February 2019
Just fast-forward through all the pointless family crap for the 15 minutes of crime drama.

If I wanted to watch a soap opera, I wouldn't have chosen to watch this rubbish.

Lou

I don't highly appreciate Chi's acting. Sometimes he just overacts. Besides, the side story of his family is kinda ridiculous.

It's turning more and more into a soap.
jaz-1555228 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The episode before this one with the flashback to 1941 was bad, but this one is really bad. Abt 5 min footage and story on a crime and the rest on a soap story, as I said before the scriptwriters must be running out of stories. Why not make only 15 episodes that are good, but 25 that are average to bad. Must be their last season if this goes on.
