- Beginning of the journey in Cartagena de Indias: in a flowers market Sophie meets Valérie Thuillier Espinosa who manages the restaurant "Le Montmartre": they cross the market and see public letter writers and then a compact disks vendor who invites Sophie to dance salsa, later they go to the restaurant: Sophie tastes the juice of tamarillo (in Spanish tomate en arbol): they visit the old town (the story of the slave trade and the building of the ramparts to protect the town against French and English pirates), later they go to Playa Blanca, a popular beach, where they eat mango slices with salt and lemon juice.In the night they meet Johana Bahamon ("Fundación acción interna): in the restaurant detained women work as cooks and waitresses (an interesting experience of social rehabilitation). Then Sophie travels to Santa Elena near Medellin: In the "Finca Silletera El Pensamiento" she meets José Angel Zapata and his wife Blanca Rosa who produce 65 different flowers and they teach her how to prepare a "silleta" , a type of saddle for flowers that José presents usually in the Festival of Flowers of Medellin.Later they prepare a typical Colombian food, the "bandeja paisa": red beans, rice, plantain and pork rind and ground beef.They go the church, there a priest is blessing the cars, the motorcycles and buses (the drivers bring an offering). In Medellin Sophie meets Raphaël Lubczanski who has an auto rickshaw transformed into a little cafeteria and Sophie tastes coffee.Later they see the statues of Fernando Botero in a place of this town.Sophie travels to Guatapé and climbs the 659 steps to reach the top of the Rock of Guatapé: she meets there Ignacio Suarez Garcia (called also Nacho) who has made many bas-relief in the town of Guatapé. Later Sophie travels to Salento, where she meets Marino Toro, her guide and they go to the "Valle del Cocora" where they see the famous "Quindío wax palm", a palm tree which is 40-60 meters high and can live 200 years: together a plant a young wax palm. Besides we see interesting stories about flower production in Colombia (hydrangea and chrysanthemums), about the new life of the Comuna trece, about the birds fauna in Colombia (1.600 species of bird, a great opportunity for ecotourism), about the Colombian women and their care for their images (fashion, hairdressers and plastic surgery) and about cycling in Colombia (cyclists in Bogota climbing to Alto de Patios or cyclists training in the velodrome of Medellin).—zutterjp48
