Beck says that it's a "she" and tells him that she's against the system that allows a talentless hack like Townsend to rise in power. She mentions Townsend's father, and he angrily tells her to leave his father out of it. Beck says that LA deserves better than him and that's why she's having him recalled, and she figures he's using the motorway to build prisons against majorities he doesn't like until no one is left but rich white men like himself. Townsend tells her that he has dangerous friends and she doesn't want to monkey with them. Back says "Isn't that queer?' and figures that he's familiar with the term "queer". She tells him to watch his back and Townsend leaves without a word.
In his office, Townsend finds Alex and Lewis looking at a map of the motorway. Lewis introduces himself to Townsend as Townsend pours himself a drink, and the detective sarcastically asks if Germany is calling. Lewis warns Townsend that he's out of his league with Goss, and Townsend tells him bring a legal document the next time Lewis visits him.
Townsend dismisses Lewis, who says that they'll see each other again before he leaves. The councilman then tells Alex to call Adelaide and tells her that they're coming for them, and Alex goes to make the call. Alex goes after Lewis and tells him that Townsend knows exactly who Goss is but won't give him up. She says that she'll lose her head if Townsend finds out that she's talking to Lewis, and tells Lewis that Goss has been in LA for a year and is an architect. Lewis isn't impressed with the public knowledge, then asks what she gets out of helping him. Alex tells him that she already lost it all, and her parents were in Vienna when Hitler invaded. Lewis asks what her real name is, and Alex claims "Mueller". She calls herself "Malone" because she thought it sounded Irish, and asks how she can help. Lewis says in Yiddish for her to tell her every time Townsend meets with Goss and everyone they meet, and Alex tells him that he can rely on her. She warns that Townsend is smarter than he seems, and that Goss is dangerous. Lewis tells her to stay in touch and leaves, and Alex thanks him for letting her help.

She tells Peter that she won't be in the sanitarium forever, and her father has some ideas about how they should litigate their "domestic travails". She tells him that he should make them look inside for strength when they lose the will to fight. Mateo wonders what they do then, and Rio tells him that they'll walk in blood to his throne.

An alarm goes off and the couples switch so that each man is dancing with a woman. Two men come in, and the vocalist announces that it was a false alarm. Everyone dances with their original partners, and Townsend tells Kurt that it's how they know if the vice squad is going to raid them. Elsa tells him that he's the bund's leader and he should lead, and she says that she'll never live in shame again. She asks Peter if he's strong enough to protect her, and tells him not to be afraid that he's German. Peter insists that he isn't, and says that being a German isn't marching with Hitler. He wants peace for Germany and America, and Elsa sarcastically asks if his "strength" is appearing the Jews and the Bolsheviks.
Elsa asks where Peter's pride is, and he pulls over. Peter then tells Elsa that his pride is for his family, not the Fatherland, and not in his name. When Elsa wonders what he means, Peter says that the Krupp family has a legacy of weapon-building, and his family sells death to the world by manufacturing arms for Hitler. He tells Elsa that his name is really Peter Krupp, and in the first war he was a medic and saw the blood. Peter refuses to embrace his family's legacy, and drives on.
At the Craft house, Maria is working in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner. The sink she's washing a dish in fills with blood, and she hears the boys yell. Maria goes into the living room, and finds Frank glaring the coyote token that Maria gave Tom. Frank angrily asks what the totem is, then glares at Maria. The lights go out and Maria gets a flashlight from a drawer. She turns it on but the boys are gone. Maria goes upstairs, looking for them, and hears someone laughing in the dark.
Something charges Maria in the dark, knocking the flashlight out of her hand. When she picks it up, she finds Frank looking at her. Tom yells for Maria, but when she runs into Tom's room, there's no one there. The door closes behind her, and Maris' husband Jose steps out of the shadows and greets her. He says that he's missed her, and says that he's proud of her for all she's done to protect their children.
Maria asks Jose why he's there, and he tells her that he's there to help her and Santa Muerte brought him back to Maria. The Mexican woman says that there's evil in the house and asks how she can help the Craft boys. Jose says that she can't and the power of the beast is too strong. He advises Maria to leave the place and never return or she will die. Maria tells him that she doesn't know much, but she does know that her husband would never tell her to run away... and the beast takes many forms.
"Jose" says that Mara's husband screams when she killed him, then screams like he did as he bursts into flame. Maria screams in terror, and finds herself back in the kitchen looking at the sink full of blood. Frank is there, and puts his hand onto the lit stove burner. He screams in apparent pain, and Peter and Elsa run in. Elsa asks Maria what she did, and Peter stares at Maria in surprise.
Later, Tiago and Molly are in bed and there's a knocking at the apartment door. Tiago answers it and finds Lewis there. Molly covers herself up as Lewis comes in, complaining that Tiago didn't answer his phone. Lewis sighs and tells Tiago that he needs him and it's important, and to meet him downstairs once he gets dressed. Once Lewis, Molly wonders if he'll tell anyone and Tiago doesn't care. He kisses her and dresses.
Elsa tells Peter to get rid of Maria, and Peter says that he can't afford to lose her. When he says that he wants to think about it, Elsa says that she needs Peter Krupp, not Peter Croft. Maria comes in and says that she's going home, and Elsa says that they have to speak to Maria about something and glares at Peter. Peter tells Maria that he's giving her a raise. Elsa scowls and Peter tells Maria to go home and see her children. Once she leaves, Peter tells Elsa that she has Peter Krupp and walks out. Elsa sits down, exasperated.
Lewis waits by his car and Tiago joins him and asks what's so important. The older detective says that Townsend is in whatever is going on up to his neck, and they realize that Adelaide had the same map that Townsend did, of the motorway. They wonder why Townsend and Adelaide are working together to build the motorway, and Lewis says that he went to the Court of Record and learned that everything leads to Goss. They figure it all adds up to the future of LA, and Lewis suggests that they pay a nighttime visit to the Via Hermosa offices.
As they go to Lewis' car, Lewis tells Tiago that too many secrets can get them killed. Tiago promises that it won't happen again and he's been with Molly for a month, but Molly doesn't know about Adelaide's involvement with the Nazis. However, he admits that he isn't and that what he's doing isn't smart. As Lewis goes to the car, a man opens fire on the car with a Tommy gun. Lewis and Tiago shoot back but the shooter escapes.
